JOSEPH DARLING, son of Amos (thomas, John) and Hepsabah (BRUCE) DARLING was
born 1746 Oct 29 Framingham MA {Vr: Framingham2, 521} and died 1824 Nov 09
Lincklaen, Chenango Co NY {Marlboro, 353; Smith2, 484, ae 78}. Joseph first
married 1773 August 19 Marlboro MA {VR} ti EUNICE FLAGG, daughter of
Jonathan and Eunice (PATTERSON) FLAGG. Eunice was born 1730 May 07
Watertown, MA {VR} and died 1775 May--{Marlboro VR, 353}.

Joseph secondly married 1778 Apr 07 Northboro MA {VR} to SARAH HOUGHTON,
daughter of John 3rd and Mary (GODDARD) HOUSTON. Sarah was born 1756 Nov 24
Bolton, MA {VR} and died 1846 Jan 21 {Gs: West Lincklaen, Chenango Co NY, in
her 90th year, Scott/Ghoudt, page uncited; Smith2, 484, as Jan 09 ae 89}

Joseph was a private in Capt. Aaron Gardiner's Co., Col. Brooks' Regt. in
1776 and maybe the Joseph who enlisted in Midleboro as a private in Capt.
William Trapper's Co., Col. Ebenezer White's Regt. to an alarm in Rhode
Island {MSSR 4:438} Joseph lived with his father in Framingham until 1781,
when he removed to West Brattleboro near his fahter-in-law John Houston
{Houghton, 17-19}. He removed again by January of 1783 to Bennington, the
date of warrant from R Munford {TR, Warrant Book 4"232}. He became a
freeman in 1803 and allowed to vote in church {PpR A-1:346}. He was a
surbeyor of highways in Bennington in 1795 and 1799 {PpR, A-1, 82, 112}.

Joseph sold his property early in 1804 by warrant to Moses Hurd and moved to
German, Chenango Co NY with his son Joel. Joseph bought a farm two miles
northwest of the catlin settlement in Lincklaen, Chenango Co NY on Mud Creek
on 1823 Ar 12 {Bennington TR, Warrant Book 6:412; Smith2, 484-485}

TIMOTHY DARLING son of John (Thomas, John) and Abigail (FRENCH) DARLING was
born 1747 Aug 12 Framingham MA {VR}. Timothy married before 1770 t RACHEL
KENDALL, daughter od Eleazer and Mary (BROWN) KENDALL. Jr. {see seprate
entry} was born 1751 Dec 28 Framingham MA {VR}

Timothy was said to have seen service in the Revolutionary War {Framingham
2, 521} and may be the Timothy Darling who enlisted from Princeton MA ae 35,
in Capt. Merick's Co., Col. Whitney's Regt. {MSSR, 4:442}. Timothy and
Rachel were in Rockingham by 1787 Nov 12 when they were warned out
{Rockingham, 140}. A Timothy "Dorlen" was a member of the Baptist Church in
town by 1789 Jun 12 {ibid} No probate has been found.

JOHN DARLING, son of John3 (John2-1) and Hannah (MORSE) DARLING, baptized
1744 Geb 05 Kingston, NH {CR} and died 1830 {Gs; Groton Cem ae 100 (sic)}.
Jjohn married first 1764 Dec 24 Hampstead, NH {VR} PHOEBE ROBARDS, daughter
od Aniel3 (Daniel2, Ephraim1) and Meritah4 (Thomas3, Francis2-1 DAVIS)
ROBARDS. Phoebe was born 1748 Jun 15 Hamptead NH {VR} and died after the
birth of her fifth child in 1775 {post vide}.

John was an early property owner and settler of Vermont. In 1763, the
Governor of New H ampshire granted land in Lunenburg to 74 men fro New
Hampshire, one of whom was John {VHG, 1:1015}. It was not until 1787 that
John and his sons Robards, Samuel and Moses came to Groton from Plaistow NH
{ibid, 4:1158} in 1787 {ibid, 1:321}. On 1797 mar 28, the first organized
Groton town meeting was held at the home of John Darling {ibid, 3:321}.

Robards and Judith came to Ryegate briefly around 1785 and settling in
Groton {Ryegate, 324} He settled in 1787 at Groton with his brothers Samuel
and Moses, and father John {VHG, 1:321; 4: 1158}. On 1797 Mar 28 Robards
was elected surveyor of timber at Groton's first town meeting held at his
father's house {ibid, 1:321}
