Greetings! Archive Style Moon's Dedication |
They will find out what is unique about you and they will destroy you for it Daniel Jackson Stargate SG-1 Adult FanFiction By Moon Mistress Chapter Forty-Three David was awake and reading the disturbing news in the
morning paper. War had been declared in
the Can you hear me? “Loud and clear, Sunshine.” David folded the paper and put it on the floor as he leaned over the bed. “Can ya say something for me? Just try.” David, his name is David…DAY-VID. Now, say it. Calla cleared her throat, her mouth opened and her throat started to work. “Da—d--Doc.” She rolled her eyes in disgust and willed herself to try one more time. It’s simple; David. Two syllables, surely you can handle that, can’t you? “Day-v-id.” “That’s me, Sunshine.” He beamed at her. “Good girl.” It was easy to see how difficult it was for her to try and talk and he didn’t want her to know that he’d been just privy to her inner thoughts regarding her inability to verbalize. “Try again when you want but I can hear ya just fine,” he tapped the side of his head knowing that, like before, this would only last a few short hours. Tell Annie that
Danny’s sick. I’ve been trying to tell her but she hasn’t been here. You will
tell her, won’t you? “Of course I will.” David soothed. “How are you feeling? Sleep well?” He waited to see if she would say anything about the dream she’d had the night before. Did she? She didn’t know. Lying there in the best she both rested and utterly exhausted a strange sensation to say the least. Her mind was bright and alert as it had been most of the time but now it seemed more ON as though someone had thrown a switch and extra juice was now flowing to it. It was telling her to get up and get moving…do it right now! Her body felt like lead and didn’t have any wish to comply with the demands of her mind. Daniel? Have you heard from him? What has he said? They must have heard from the men on Sengul by now. There it was. David didn’t want to break the news to her so
he had a plan. Standing there by her bed
he very loudly cleared his throat. This
was a predetermined signal to the UPs and most especially Duncan MacLeod, who’d
been waiting out in the hall for Calla to wake up this last hour or so. Out in the hall No doubt in a few moments a doctor, nurse or orderly would also come through the door and ask her the same question. No doubt this would happen several times today. Calla struggled to sit up and David gave her a hand. Better, I guess. David realized he was supposed to interpret. “She’s says she thinks she feels better.” “You can hear her? That’s great.” Yeah, great. Soon they’d come in, ask how she was, then take her down for more tests they would take more urine, more Ichor and whatever else they wanted. Yeah, just great if you were a lab rat or a guinea pig, maybe. An orderly came in with a tray; breakfast had arrived. Powdered eggs and instant coffee…yummy. “How are you, Mrs. Jackson?” The orderly asked as he probably did a hundred times a day. She smiled but rolled her eyes already tiring of the question. Before she could ask about Daniel again the UPs were filing into the room. “They’ve got stories to tell you.” A nurse came in and made Calla take her daily pills, asked how Calla was doing and then told her that she’d be going down for another CTscan soon and then to the physical therapy room once more. Is Randy working this
morning? “She wants to know if Randy’s working this morning.” David said to the nurse. “I believe so.” The nurse replied. “Eat your breakfast it’s getting cold. They’ll be up in just a few moments.” Yep, just great, cold powdered eggs, cold instant coffee, twenty minutes in the claustrophobia machine and an hour with Randy to look forward today. Hoo-fuckin’-ray. “We would like to speak with her first, if you don’t mind.” Morgan Le Fey said to Nurse Ratchet. The nurse gave no actual acknowledgment as she walked away. The other UPs bid Calla good-bye saying they wanted to explore the town a little more but would be back before she was released. Morgan and Fiona stayed behind. “You can come in now.” Fiona called to an unseen person and a moment later Maeve floated into the room on her iridescent wings. Calla almost cringed. Maeve had been living with Duncan and Morgan for several months but the two women had kept a steady distance. What do you want? The tone in her thoughts took David by surprise and he tried to keep it out of his voice when he spoke for her. “Hey, Maeve. What are you doin’ here?” “I don’t have to answer to you.” She said crossly. “No but you do have to answer her,” David hitched his thumb in Calla’s direction, “and she’s the one who wants to know.” Fiona spoke. “Thor will arrive soon, he’s found the necklace.” She explained. “We would like to help, Calla. We propose making the chain while you recuperate and while Daniel is…away. This way when he returns all will be ready. However, we will need the combination to the safe where the other necklaces are stored. We will disassemble them, bless and charge the stones and facet them into one chain.” Calla couldn’t think of any better three people for this task and slowly nodded her agreement. Tell them the combination is Nicholas and Colleen’s birthday; 06 01 20 05 “She agrees.” David said and gave them the combination. Thank them. “She says thank you.” When will Thor arrive? “When’s the little gray guy getting’ here?” “According to Samantha he should arrive by the end of the day.” Morgan said. “We will get to work right away.” Daniel? David’s heart stopped and he pretended not to hear her. Calla cleared her throat as though that would help. Daniel??
Where is my Husband? My Son? My Father? Jack? It seemed David didn’t want to answer
her. I
know you can hear me…where are they? “I got something to tell ya, Callie….” Her heart dropped and Calla used her good arm to pull the blankets aside as she swung her legs over the side of the bed. “Stop.” David ordered. “I see I don’t have to tell ya but there’s nothing you can do.” David went on to explain how the Stargate on the Sengul side must have been disabled somehow and how they couldn’t get through to the men on the other side or anyone on the other side for that matter. Those bitches! They’re keeping my family from me! Oh I hate them! Obviously Samantha was
aware of the problem since she was in charge of the SGC but…Does Annie know? “Yeah, Annie knows.” David said softly. “I know you’re
worried, Sunshine, but we can’t do anything except wait.” That was the last thing Calla wanted to hear
but it was the truth, pitiful as it was.
He explained to her about strange seismic activity and how Sam had taken
a team to You think Wolfgar’s
responsible for this? Involuntarily David cast his eyes toward the folded newspaper on the floor under the chair in which he’d slept last night. “It’s possible, Sunshine.” Possible her first born Grandson was responsible for that and whole lot of other things. The whole place had been buzzing about the news of a declared war and it wasn’t easy keeping that bee away from Calla’s acute ears. It wasn’t just Danny and Altair Ain that were in jeopardy here. Now she tried to get out of bed again but this time Morgan Le Fey held her back. “You’ve enough work ahead of you, Calla.” She explained quietly. “We’re all here for you, we’re not going anywhere. Soon, Daniel, Nicholas, Ares and Jack will return and all will be well again. You have to let others handle it this time. I know that’s difficult for you. You want to charge right over there and take back what’s yours but you’re in no shape to do that.” The orderly waltzed in pushing a wheelchair. Time for her CT Scan. Calla shook her head and folded her arms over her chest. “You want to be stronger when they return, don’t you?” Fiona encouraged. “It’s time to find out if that’s possible.” Yes, she wanted to be stronger if she could be and if there wasn’t anything she could do for them then they were right and she had to work on herself. That didn’t make it any easier or any less frustrating. But it was what it was and for the moment all she could do was go along. By the end of the day Calla had endured all of the tests the doctors wanted and was back in her room to hear the results. After her night under the spell of Morpheus’ special Dream Dust her cognitive abilities were much better so was her range of motion. Randy had been particularly impressed by the fact that she was able to tell the difference between the feather and the pin. Annie stood at the foot of the bed with Calla’s chart in her hands. “It appears the Dust eats the Xerinium,” she announced, “but since Xerinium rapidly replenishes itself and multiplies the effect isn’t permanent in small doses. By my calculations if you sleep under its spell for three or four days it will counteract all of the effects of the Xerinium pooling in your brain and it will be gone.” “Does that mean she’ll be able to talk again?” David asked before Calla could think it. “Yes, talk and have far better mobility. I can’t say she’ll be just as good as she was before the stroke but, yes, she’ll be much better off.” I! I will be much
better off! “She’d like you to stop talking about her as if she wasn’t here.” David mumbled. There was no mistaking the icy attitude Annie currently had toward her otherwise beloved Mother in-law. “Sorry,” Annie said and looked down at Calla for a moment. “It will help, Mom. I know sleeping for the next few days while Nick and Dad are out of touch isn’t what you wanted to hear but…” her voice trailed off. While Calla hadn’t mentioned anything about her dream David was uneasy about the idea of her sleeping for three to four days straight. He pulled Annie aside and voiced his concerns that if Wolfgar could get into Calla’s mind while she was asleep then this little plan could put her in a lot of danger. “She’ll be right here on a military base chock full of armed men and women, what could possibly happen to her?” Annie countered. “So what do you say, Mom?” She said in a louder voice. “Up for a long nap?” “Before you answer that; what’d you dream about last night, Callie?” David was miffed that Annie would be so callous in the light of that was going on. Calla thought about both questions for a moment and then
looked up at them with a warm smile. Daniel.
I dreamed of Daniel. We were laying on a blanket high on a mountaintop watching
the clouds go by in the clear blue sky.
I was young again and he made love to me. So maybe he was wrong, maybe he just misinterpreted what he thought he heard Calla dreaming about last night. Trouble was he didn’t misinterpret that drop in temperature or the gnawing feeling that someone he couldn’t see was right in front of him. That newspaper kept sitting there almost mocking him as it stared up at David with that strange creased smile. Maybe Wolfgar just wanted Callie to think he was Danny in her dream. “That all?” David asked opening the door for her to tell him that perhaps somewhere along the line the great sex she was dreaming about turned into something a little darker. The smile on her face faltered but then grew again. Is that not enough? “Well…what’d she say?” Annie interjected. “She had a nice dream about Danny.” “There you have it.” Annie said as though she’d just won an argument. “We can start tonight if someone gets in touch with Morpheus and lets him know what’s going on. He’ll have to figure out how much of that stuff we’ll need to keep you out for three or four days.” Now her tone had finality to it, as though the decision were cemented and there was nothing else to do but get on with it. “I still don’t think it’s a good idea.” David muttered. Annie sighed. “Well, you’re not her next of kin, now are you?” She sassed. “No I don’t think you are. Mom knows what’s going on, she can voice…well not voice but you know what I mean…she can let us know what she wants.” Calla thought it was very rude and unnecessary of Annie to treat David so poorly, he was obviously wounded by her statement. Annie was tired, she was overworked and of course she was very worried about Nicholas. The last thing Calla wanted to do was to add to that and in the light of more serious things it seemed almost silly but the smallest things were always important to Calla and she needed a few more moments to think about this big sleep. Have you told her about Danny? No, he hadn’t and now her question jogged David’s memory. “Yeah, um, when was the last time you were home, Annie?” David couldn’t remember the last time he saw in Altair Ain and Danny was currently staying with Colleen. “I don’t know, a week or so I guess.” “Danny seems to be sick or something.” “He had the flu or a cold,” Annie said dismissively. “I saw him and told him to stay home. Is he still a little under the weather?” She was a bit surprised to hear that but not terribly concerned. Annie talked to Danny every day on the phone and he hadn’t said anything about being sick. Then again, he hadn’t sounded his normal mischievous self either. His color is awful and he’s very listless. “Callie says his color is poor and he’s a little listless. Ya know how boys are and Danny’s no different he’s usually getting up to something but not lately.” “Well then he’s just behaving himself for a change.” Annie closed the chart. “I’m his mother and his doctor, I think he’s just fine. Soon you’ll be a lot better too.” With that Annie walked out of the room to make preparations for Calla’s little hibernation. “Ain’t that funny, Sunshine?” David remarked. “I didn’t hear you say ‘yes’.” Neither did I. Did Annie really want her to sleep for days
while Daniel and the others were in danger?
Calla couldn’t even comprehend it. Call
for them for me, will you please? “For who?” The Olympians, call
for them. That was a trick David had yet to try. Never once did he have any reason to want to get in touch with Ares or Poseidon or Hades or even Morpheus. “Ah, well, I don’t know, Sunshine.” Just call their names.
That’s all. David looked around the room and shut the door. He felt like enough of an idiot without the whole of the SGC wandering by to watch then he glanced up at the observation room to see it was empty. That was good but he was still nervous and rubbed his hands together as he spoke. “Well, here goes nothing.” He said without much hope. “Hades! Morpheus! Poseidon! Ahhh….Sunshine wants to see ya!” Much to his surprise, one by one the three Olympians appeared in the room. “Oh, hey, it worked.” Of course it did. Poseidon who hadn’t seen his niece in some time was dismayed by her appearance. “Hello, Little One. He says you want to see us?” He reached out for her hands and smiled for her. By the Gods! She looked even older than he did! His heart lightened when she smiled back at him, even though the right corner of her mouth drooped her eyes still sparkled. Tell them what Annie
wants. “Yeah, right.” “How did the tests go?” Morpheus asked before David could really start to talk. “Well that’s why you’re all here,” David began and then relayed Annie’s idea to them. “I think she wants your advice on this one and I don’t say that I blame her for it.” However, he did not immediately voice his concerns over Wolfgar and the possibility that the boy could enter Calla’s sleeping mind. No one seemed to believe him and Calla seemed just fine. “Three or four days?” Morpheus asked out loud. “I can’t give you that much Dust at once, Calla, it could kill you or put you into a very deep coma.” He looked to his relatives for support and received it. “Agreed.” Hades said as he stroked her cheek with the back of his black gloved hand. “It could be very dangerous and believe it or not I don’t want you coming to stay with me just yet. You’ll have to give it to her in increments.” “There will be periods where you wake but you probably won’t remember them.” Morpheus told her. “They want to do it here? Are they going to keep subjecting her to these damn tests the whole time she sleeps?” Whereas Olympians might love their games Mortals were completely overly enamored with testing things. They were downright annoying. Good question. “I don’t know,” Was all David could give for an answer. “If you can get her to talk to you, you could ask Annie.” Who seems to have a real bug up her ass lately, he thought but didn’t say. I would rather be at
home. “I know that, Sunshine.” David muttered and realized the others couldn’t hear her. “She’d rather do this at home in her own bed.” He explained. Along with his suspicions about Wolfgar there was something else the Olympians hadn’t yet been told. “Danny, Ares, Nick and Jack are stuck on Sengul.” “What?” Poseidon asked as he turned his head so quickly at the news that it let out a loud groan and he along with it. “We don’t know exactly why but we can’t get a connection before she left Sam said it was like the Stargate on the Sengul side just didn’t exist anymore.” “Where has she gone? Why isn’t she here? Why isn’t she working on bringing them home?” “Cool down,” David advised Poseidon, “you’re gonna bust an
Ichor vessel or something. She is working on bringing them home and she went to
“It is my understanding there isn’t a Stargate in “Yeah well that’d be part of the point.” David argued. “The anomaly happened in the same little place Sunshine’s painting was shipped, the one that went for a cool million gold.” “What town is this?” Morpheus inquired. None of them needed those million gold pieces to fall on their heads to see where this was going. “Pokrovskoye, it’s in “Rasputin,” Hades spit on the floor as the name came out of his mouth. In amazement, David watched as Poseidon also spit on the floor and Morpheus made the attempt at it. “That’s the costume the man was wearing, isn’t it? The one who bought the painting.” “Yep.” The air seemed to have suddenly grown cold and Calla pulled the blanket up around her chest. It really was him? In my home? So near my family and we didn’t know! We have to get them back, we must bring them home! “Calm down, Sunshine.” David soothed. “So ya’ll still think this sleeping thing is a good idea?” No, they didn’t but she had to be rid of the Xerinium
pooling in her brain and this seemed the only option. If they left it the problem would only worsen
as the heavy metal spread and devoured more of her mind. “I’ll go to “How would they know?” Hades asked. “I thought only Zeus had that secret.” “Zeus knew it all right but whether or not he was the only one who did….” Poseidon’s voice trailed off as if to say that was anyone’s guess. “It wouldn’t surprise me if Rasputin knew it.” “Excuse me, but, ah, just what are you talking about?” David asked. “You needn’t be concerned, Sa’Tan, your job is here and you know it.” Poseidon said sternly. “I can’t open it but I might be able to assist them in opening it. Who knows? What with all the Mortals testing and building their constant need to know and understand things, perhaps they’ll be able to devise a way to open it.” “Open what?” David demanded. “And when you say Rasputin are we talking about the real Rasputin? The mad Russian monk?” “Yes, we are.” Morpheus said with disgust. “We are also talking about opening a gateway to other worlds. The Stargate is hardly the only way to travel across the vastness of space. Zeus knew how to use the Ley lines in Pokrovskoye to open that gateway.” He looked down at Calla. “And so do you. So you must sleep now Little One so you can be strong enough to bring your men home.” Me? “Sunshine doesn’t understand either.” “Hades and I are Zeus’s brothers, we are not descendents and Morpheus isn’t related to Zeus at all. You are a direct descent of Zeus and not only that he gave you his power, gave his life for you and the future of the Olympian race. Somewhere in your mind, Calla, you know how to do open it.” I don’t. She shook
her head. If she knew then she’d be out of this bed in a hot second and on her
way to “She wants to know if Ares can do it. I mean, if these Ley line-things are here then they must be there too, right? So they connect somehow? Can he open them from his side? What the hell are they anyway?” The three of them stared at each other as if they were silently consulting each other while Calla explained what Ley lines are to David with the fading power in her mind. Then Poseidon spoke. “Yes, Ares could do this if he knew how which he probably doesn’t. An Olympians’ memory is genetic but it is not readily accessible for a good reason; having that much knowledge at one’s fingertips would drive one insane in an instant. If he finds the right spot and he concentrates hard enough then yes he could do it.” Hades snorted. “We all know he won’t. For all of his talk and his bravado Ares has always been the least self-assured of all of us. If he doesn’t believe he can do it then he can’t do it.” “What about Athena?” David asked the question before he realized it but she seemed the logical choice being that she was a direct descendant of Zeus on all sides of her family tree. “They’re coming home, Sunshine, they wanted to surprise you but they’ll all be here by tomorrow night.” The Children were coming home. The news both delighted and dismayed Calla. She always loved to see her Children and be in their company but if the demon who called himself Wolfgar wanted to harm them—and surely Danny and Coley, who now went by Kiki to separate herself from her Aunt, would be at the top of the list. Might Amy also be on that list? In the end she was Nicholas’ daughter. Annie? Surely she was in harm’s way. “Perhaps,” Poseidon mused. “Perhaps she is old and mature enough now but I know that you can do this Little One.” There was a knock on the closed door and Is everyone with you? “She wants to know if the rest of ‘em are out there.” David
said to “Yeah, we’re here to take you home but I see you’re not ready yet. So, one more time, what’s going on?” Bring them all in. “Get ‘em in here.” “All of them?” Calla nodded to indicate that everyone including Lord Thor should enter the room and be told what was happening. Within a few moments the UPs were crowding into her shrinking room. “Lady Calles….Lady Calla,” Thor corrected, “so good to see you again.” He wrapped his gray hands with their overly long fingers around her wrist. They’d told him of her appearance but he thought they must be exaggerating but now he could see they were not in fact they may even have been being kind in their descriptions of her. And you, Lord Thor.
Thank you for all your help. “Good to see you too. Thanks for your help.” David said on
her behalf. Between him and the three
Olympians they filled the newcomers in on the events so far. Opinions were
shared. Ideas were debated. In the end
they decided the best course of action was for Maeve, Morgan and Fiona to weave
the chain of jewels while Calla slept at home in Altair Ain watched over
carefully 24 hours a day and Athena was sent to Siberia to see if she could
harness the power of the Ley lines and open the gateway. When Calla woke and if Athena had been
unsuccessful then Calla would go to Annie, who had been left out of the decision making altogether, voiced a strong objection upon being told that Calla was being taken back to Altair Ain. She wanted Calla in the SGC where she could be watched and monitored properly. Poseidon over rode her. “This may concern worlds and Gods and Kings but at its heart this is a family matter and it will be treated that way.” “I am family.” Annie protested. “Family you are but what you are not is one of us.” He returned. “I don’t expect you to understand. However, with Calla returning home you have no reason to stay here and if you wish to continue your…your testing, your incessant poking and prodding of her…then perhaps you should also return home. After all, you have your own family to attend to. I’m sure your son would agree with me.” As Morgan and Fiona helped Calla get dressed Hades pulled David aside along with Morpheus and Duncan. “I want Colleen to maker her Decree before you sprinkle her with that Dust of yours.” “After.” Morpheus countered. “As soon as she’s asleep, yes, I agree, then Colleen should make the Decree.” It was a perfect time and if all went well Calla would never know it happened until she finally went to reside in the Underworld. “In case something goes wrong?” “Yes.” Morpheus agreed. “She is old now, she is weak and even with the best of …monitoring…she may sleep far longer than we intend. Even if that goes as planned, if she has to open the gateway that could use up all that is left of her energy. What do you say, Sa’Tan? Do you agree?” “She could die trying to bring Danny home?” David looked through Morpheus to Calla who was being helped into a lavender sweater. He was in charge when Danny was away, he knew that, but he didn’t think he’d really have to make such decisions. Danny would be beside himself if Calla died trying to save him but Calla would think that was just fine so long as she accomplished her goal and brought her Husband, Son, Father and Jack home. David would just have to content himself with that knowledge if it ever came to it. “Fine,” he said through slotted lips. “After she’s home, after she’s comfortable, in bed, had a good meal. I’m staying with her while she sleeps.” “I would expect no less.” Hades said. “Excuse me, if I may interject for a moment?” Thor asked as he joined the group. Hades looked down at him. “Of course you may, Thor.” “My ship is in orbit and I have no plans to leave until this is resolved.” He stated in his monotone voice. “If you would like, Calla is free to board the ship and sleep there. She will be most comfortable, welcome and safe.” He assured them. Well, that was a good idea and if things got hot back home David just might take the gray guy up on his offer. “Why don’t you send one of your ships after Danny?” “I would gladly do that and have made preparations for it but we have no ships so deep in space.” Thor explained. “It will take us a long time to reach Sengul perhaps too long.” Plans and back-up plans in place, they all returned home to Altair Ain to prepare for the coming storm.
