Chapter Two
The Date

Entering the restaurant, a little Italian place just outside the base, Daniel guided her inside with his hand on the small of her back. He could feel the energy flow through his fingers from her body when he touched her. His skin tingled and wanted to touch more of her but was afraid to. Daniel found it funny, he had been on countless other worlds, met countless other races and here he was frightened by this one woman’s presence. But there was more than jittery nerves; he was drawn to her and those amazing eyes of hers.

“So how did your analysis go?” Daniel asked once they were seated and the waiter left them.

“Not how I expected. I think I may have a tainted sample. Something got on it I think, possibly before it was collected. I’ll solve it, but it’s just going to take longer then I had hoped,” she replied.

“I’m sure you will.”

“Thanks for the vote of confidence,” she chuckled. “I just hope Major Carter understands.”

“She’s a scientist, just like you. Why wouldn’t she understand?”

“I’m the new girl. I have to prove myself.”

“Who do you have to prove yourself to?”

“Everyone, I am surrounded with some of America’s brightest people. General Hammond, Major Carter… you,” she said as she played with her silverware.

“I may not be a chemist, but I think you’ll fit right in,” Daniel said as he touched her hand, gently stoking her fingers with his.

“At least I have someone on my side, Dr. Jackson,” she said meeting his gaze.

“Sara, call me Daniel.”

Sara smiled at him and felt like she could loose herself in his icy blue eyes. His fingers continued to caress her hand. From the simple, gentle caress of Daniel’s strong fingers, she could feel her blood warming up as it surged through her body. She wanted to get closer to him, feel his hands on more than just her fingers. Sara questioned herself on how she was going to get through the evening without going to far and scaring him away.

“So how is your work going, Daniel? You said you were working on a project too,” she asked him, trying to keep her mind off his gentle caress.

“Similar results. I had a little trouble concentrating this afternoon.”

“Oh,” she said a little timidly. “Then I guess I shouldn’t tell you about Major Carter’s little inquisition when I got back to the lab about our coffee break,” she said, trying to keep things light between them. He chuckled back; not a full laugh but he saw the humor in it.

Later that night, they were walking though the park near her house. It was a beautiful night, just the right amount of clouds but they could still see most of the stars. They walked along a path near a pond. There were a few swans still gliding silently across the water.

“So tell me Daniel, what do you like to do for fun, when you’re not out saving the universe?”

“Not much. There’s plenty of work to get done back at the mountain. I haven’t had a reason to get out of there for a long time,” he said as he took her hand into his. They walked in silence for a while, just enjoying the evening together. Ahead they saw a bench that looked over the pond. Crossing the path, they sat down. Sara rubbed her bare arms and silently Daniel removed his jacket and placed it over her shoulders. It was so warm and smelled of his aftershave. With his jacket gone and not wearing a loose fitting utility uniform shirt, Sara could see how broad and strong his shoulders actually were. Her imagination ran away with her when she began to think about what it would feel like to be holding onto his bare shoulder for support as they heated up her sheets. ‘Bad Sara, bad, bad Sara,” she thought.

They sat close to each other on the bench, shoulders touching, knees touching and driving her crazy.

“Show me where you have been,” she asked as she looked up at the stars as she tried to get her mind off his body and what she wanted to do with it.

Daniel put his arm around her shoulder and she nestled into him. He cleared his throat a little as he tried not to react to how close Sara was and how good it felt to have her body pressed against his. “Well, I’m not quite up on my astronomy, but I think that one,” he said pointing up into the sky, “is PX3-X21.” Sara leaned in closer to look at which star he was pointing to. “Amazing ruins there. The civilization had been gone for at least 1000 years, but their temple was still there, almost perfectly preserved. And that one, PX3-989, that’s where Cronus’s ship blew up.”

“Wow, that’s amazing. It’s fascinating to discover that what we thought were ‘gods’ are still around and as real as you or me. It seems like so many of the unsolved mysteries of Egypt have been unlocked by your work.”

“You have an interest in Egyptology?” he asked, a little surprised. No one at the SGC seemed to care about his work.

“When I was eight years old, my dad was stationed in Egypt.”

“I’m surprised that you went into the physical sciences then.”

“In high school, the chemistry teacher caught my attention by letting us blow stuff up in the lab. It kind of stuck. That was the only class I actually cared about in high school. I was a bit of a ‘bad girl’ but had good connections that got me into the Academy. If it wasn’t for Doctor Thomas, I would not have gotten my act together in time.”

“What could you have done that was bad?” he asked, strangely intrigued.

“I ran with the ‘bad kids’. Stayed out late, pretended to smoke, you know all the things that your parents don’t want you to do.”

“I’m sorry, I am having a bit of trouble picturing you as one of the ‘bad kids’.”

“I’m still a rebel at heart. It just doesn’t go with the uniform. Plus you have to grow up sometime,” she said hoping she hadn’t scared him off. “Have you been to that one, the bright one?” she asked as she reached up and pointed at it trying to change the subject. There were many things in her past she wasn’t very proud of and her high school days were just the tip of that iceberg.

When he didn’t reply, Sara looked over to him and realized that their faces were almost close enough to touch. Daniel made the first move as he closed the distance as he leaned in to kiss her as the air crackled between them in mutual attraction. Tentatively at first, but as she responded to him, he claimed her mouth. His tongue gently probing her mouth open, meeting her tongue to engage in a seductive dance.

Sara finally got her chance to run her fingers through his hair, loving every second of his strong lips on hers as he took the lead without pushing too hard. A soft moan escaped from her throat as they continued. His glasses occasionally bumped against her cheekbone. All she could think about was if he could get her this out of control with a kiss, how it would be in the bedroom.

They broke their kiss as an older man walked by them as he took his dog for a walk through the park. “I am sorry, Sara. I hope I didn’t go too far,” he said as he stoked her cheek.

“Not at all Daniel,” she replied as she began to shiver, but not from the cold.

He noticed her shivering next to him. “It is getting cold. I should get you home,” he told her as he got to his feet and extended his hand to her. She took it and rose from the bench. They walked back to his car and drove off towards her house.

Daniel walked Sara to her front door, wishing the evening were not drawing to a close. She unlocked the front door and turned to him.

“Without sounding like a cliché, I had a great time tonight, Daniel,” she said as she moved towards him.

“Me too. Can I see you again?” he asked.

“I’d like that a lot.” There was a silence, the awkward silence that always precedes the ‘good night kiss’. “Would you like to come in for some coffee or something?” she asked, not wanting him to leave, but didn’t want to sound desperate.

“How can I resist a cup of coffee?” he said lightly. Sara smiled up at him, wanting to kiss him again. Daniel opened the front door for her and they entered her small house.

He had been too nervous earlier that evening to notice anything about her place. But it was obvious that she had recently moved in since she had not had the time to camouflage the ‘standard issue’ furniture that came in a furnished rental. There were even a few boxes that still had to be unpacked sitting in one corner.

“Sorry for the mess. It takes so long to get settled,” she said apologetically.

“It’s nice,” he replied, not looking at the house, but at her.

Sara left him to make some coffee, giving him a chance to pull himself together. He wanted her so badly it hurt. It had been a long while since he had such a strong physical reaction to a woman without alien influence. He looked around at the few pictures that hung on the wall, not that there were many up there. There were pictures of her on the lacrosse team at the Academy, a graduation picture of her in her dress uniform standing next to an older woman that was probably her mother. The one photograph that intrigued him the most was a small candid photograph that sat on the bookshelf. Sara was the only female in it and it looked like a team picture. They were all dressed in camouflage and were dirty, as if they had just come out of the field. Her hair was very short and a few years younger, but it was defiantly Sara but the men in the picture looked too old to be attending the Academy. He didn’t know any chemists that went out into the field, but he was the only anthropologist that he knew of that went on field assignments with a weapon that he knew of on this planet.

Sara entered the room carrying mugs of steaming coffee and saw Daniel looking at her old team picture. She hoped he wasn’t going to ask too many questions about them. It was a part of her that she wanted to remain in the past but she held onto the photograph to remind her of her earlier life.

“Here we go,” she said, trying to take his attention from the picture as she put the mugs down on the table. Daniel crossed the room and sat next to her on the couch.

“Nice pictures. Is that your mother?” he asked, motioning to her graduation picture.

“Yes, graduation day.”

“She doesn’t look too happy for her child to have just graduated from college.”

“Mom and I have different views on what I should have done with my life. She wasn’t thrilled that I stayed at the Academy. After my dad died, she hated everything military.”

“I can see her point of view, but at least she was there for you that day.”

“At the prodding of her new husband. Mom moved to Florida and remarried a few years later. George was just trying to make me like him, making me feel like I owed him something for dragging Mom all the way up there.”

“You don’t like him?”

“Not particularly. I’d rather not talk about it,” she told him, hating the feelings that were associated with all of that.

“You played Lacrosse?”

“Varsity. It’s a great game, but I haven’t played since I graduated. Did you play any sports back then?”

“No, my grandfather brought me from dig site to dig site when I wasn’t in school. My parents died when I was young and bounced between my foster parents and my grandfather. He was an archaeologist too.”

“It looks like we both went into the ‘family businesses’,” Sara said as she sipped her coffee.

“You asked me earlier what I do when I’m not working, but you never told me what you do for fun,” he said, getting a little closer to her.

“Like you, I work a lot and I enjoy it. But my downtime is usually just that. I do the normal stuff, but I’ve only been out of grad school two years so I feel like I’ve been playing catch up with my career.”

“And when you do catch up? What then?”

“I really don’t know. I’ve been thinking about going for my PhD soon. I just take the opportunities as they come,” she told him.

Daniel wasn’t sure if she was talking about her career or her personal life. He was usually good with small talk, but not tonight. His body was telling him that there were better things to do than just talk. He put his mug down on the table, then took hers and did the same. All he could think about was kissing her again; he needed to feel close to another person again.

“Has anyone told you that you are a beautiful woman?” he said to her as he touched her cheek. Sara brought her hand up to his and twined her fingers with his. Slowly, Daniel closed the distance between them and made contact with her lips. He threaded his fingers into her hair, feeling the silky strands flow over his skin. It was Daniel who uttered the first moan this time, alone on her couch where no one would interrupt them. He took his time kissing Sara, savoring every second as he pulled her closer until she was completely in his arms.

Sara was in paradise as she sat on her couch with Daniel, making out as if they were teenagers. She ached for his touch on more than just her face. Taking the initiative, she ran her hands from around his neck to gently caress his arms, collar bone, shoulder, anything she could touch. Even underneath his sweater, she could feel his muscles, not huge like some of the “grunts” she knew, but more like a man who was in his prime.

Daniel broke the kiss but kept his hands at the nape of her neck. He could tell that Sara was enjoying this as much as he was and knew that if he was to continue, things would go farther than she probably wanted to on the first date.

“Sara?” he whispered, slightly out of breath.

“Yes, Daniel?”

“Do you know what you do to me? You make me want to do crazy things, but I don’t want to take advantage of you.”

Sara laughed a deep throaty laugh. “Let’s get crazy, Daniel,” she said. That was all he needed to hear to begin a new assault on her mouth, this time with a sense of urgency and passion. His hand glided down from her neck to cup one of her breasts. They were plump and ample in size. She moaned as he traced around her pebbled nipple, feeling her body respond to his touch. Sara pulled her lips from his. They were both breathing hard. Her hands found the hem of his sweater and ran her hands up inside it to feel his bare chest. It didn’t take long before it was being pulled over his head and thrown across the room. Sara couldn’t sit still another moment so she stood up and gave her hand to Daniel. He took it without taking his eyes off of hers. She began to lead him out of the room to another part of the house.

They couldn’t make it all the way to her bedroom without pressing Sara up against the wall and kissing her, his whole body pressed against her, holding her there. She could feel how excited Daniel was as their pelvises lined up perfectly. If it weren’t for the cut of the dress, Sara’s legs would have been wrapped around his waist by now. Somehow, they were able to find their way to her bedroom. Clothes were shed quickly and tossed around the room.

Landing on the bed, arms and legs binding them together, Sara though she was going to explode with want for him.

“Daniel, I need to feel you inside of me,” she breathed in a heavy whisper. She pushed away and pulled something out of her bedside table. Returning to him with condom in hand, she began to unwrap it while he feasted upon her neck.

Now sheathed, he climbed on top of her, getting between her legs. Slowly he guided himself into her, wanting to enjoy the feeling of plunging into her with the last of his control. He slid in and out of her as Sara wrapped her legs around him, holding him tight. Looking down at her, he could see that she was enjoying this as much as he was.

Sara was tightening around him as the tension built inside of her and knew that her release was coming soon. She grabbed his shoulders, pulling herself up to him just as her wave of orgasmic pleasure washed over her, calling out his name as she came. That was all it took to throw Daniel over the edge. Two more deep thrust and he could feel the warm seamen pulsing from his body as Sara pulsed around him in unison.

He collapsed on top of her, both of them breathing hard. When Daniel had enough control over his body again, he rolled over and lay next to her, amazed with what just happened between them. Not even with his wife did he do anything that spontaneous so early in their relationship, not that Shar’e didn’t want to. He had been the responsible one back then.

Sara rolled up next to him and he put an arm around her. Her naked body presses up against the entire length of his. She had the softest skin as he lazily ran his hand up and down her.

“Daniel?” Sara said tentatively.

“Yes?” he replied, unsure of what she was going to say.

“I just wanted you to know that this is not normal for me. I mean, I’ve never gone to bed with a man I have only known for less than a day and never on a first date.”

“Same here.”

“But I don’t regret it in the least,” she told him as she turned her head to look up at him.

Daniel smiled down at her, “Yeah, no regrets,” he said as he placed a soft kiss on her forehead. He could already feel himself responding to her body, her eyes, wanting more. He brought her chin up higher so that he could reach her lips. She welcomed him openly as she kissed him back, having the same idea of wanting more.

Sara woke up the following morning in Daniel’s arms, spooned up against him. He was like a warm blanket, holding her securely, keeping her nightmares away. Turning towards him, she noticed he was awake.

“Morning,” he said as he stroked the hair out of her face.

“Morning. What time is it?” she asked.

“Almost five.”

“I have to get up. I told Major Carter that I would be in the lab by 0630 today,” she said, hating the idea of getting out of bed, especially when she was so comfortable in his arms.

“I think Sam would forgive you for being a little late,” he said, still touching her face, wanting her all over again.

“No, but General Hammond wants results. How would Colonel O’Neill feel if you showed up to a briefing late?”

“You have a point.”

Sara sat up with her back to him, getting ready to stand up.

“When did you get that tattoo?” he asked, tracing the blue flower on the small of her back with his finger.

“Oh, that. A few years ago. Before grad school,” she replied, loving how his touch felt. “I saw the design in the shop and loved it.”

“A blue lotus. Very interesting.”

“Why do you say that? It’s just a flower.”

“But they grow on the Nile River. In ancient Egypt, it was like the rose is today. Something a man would give a woman to win her heart, plus it was a very strong symbol of sexuality,” he told her as he snaked his arm around her waist and pulled her close. Daniel placed small kisses all around it, sending chills up her back.

“Really?” she said, intrigued and aroused. “Tell me more, Doctor Jackson.”

Normally being called Doctor in bed would put off Daniel, but the way Sara said it made his temperature go up. “In the beginning were the waters of chaos. Darkness covered the waters until the Primeval Water Lily rose from the abyss. Slowly the blue water lily opened its petals to reveal a young god sitting in its golden heart. A sweet perfume drifted across the waters and light streamed from the body of this Divine Child to banish universal darkness. This child was the Creator, the Sun God, the source of all life. So the Primeval Water Lily closed its petals at the end of each day. Chaos reigned through the night until the god within the water lily returned. The Creator knew that he was alone. This solitude became unbearable and he longed for other beings to share the new world with him. The thoughts of the Creator became the gods and everything else which exists. When his thoughts had shaped them, his tongue gave them life by naming them. Thoughts and words were the power behind creation,” he said, quoting from The Waters of Chaos. “So if you ask me, I think that it suits you perfectly.”

“Is that your professional opinion?” she said, in a throaty voice as she turned and leaned closer to him.

“Not as a Doctor, but as a man, Sara,” he said as he began to kiss his way up her body. She melted into him and gave herself over to him, forgetting all about her duty for the moment.

Sara was out of breath and her hair was still damp as she arrived in the lab with only seconds to spare. Major Carter was already in there working as the Captain entered the room.

“What’s the rush Sara?” Sam asked as the chemist blew into the room.

“I didn’t want to be late, ma’am,” she replied as she stored her personal belongings in one of the lockers in the room. “I…um… overslept.”

“Really? Was your date with Daniel that good that you got home late?”

“I didn’t sleep much last night,” Sara confessed, a little embarrassed as she tucked her hair behind her ear.

“I see,” she said starting to read between the lines. “So, you and Daniel are… an item now?” Sam said delicately.

“I don’t know. We didn’t…um… discuss it much.”

“I am assuming that it was a good date then? Where did you guys go?”

“Dinner and then a walk in the park.”

“I didn’t realize that Daniel was such a romantic.”

“It was the best date I’ve been on in a LONG while,” Sara said with a satisfied smile.

With that said, the two women got to work.
