Chapter 3: Jack "You see everything, you see every part 2
P.M.
Colonel Jonathan "Jack" O' Neill prided himself on a lot, but
one thing above others was his ability to not be shocked by anything. Ever. But the last eight years had put that to the test. The
things he'd seen, holy shit. You'd really think he was prepared for anything.
He'd already arranged for a late lunch with Daniel, and as he drove up to the
house, he could already sense that while nothing was necessarily wrong,
something was definitely off. He
rang the bell, and Daniel came to the door. His glasses were in his hand, and
Jack looked over his shoulder to see the pile of books and the laptop open.
"Playing the home game?" Jack quipped. Daniel laughed nervously, and looked over his
shoulder.
"Yeah, hey Jack, can we do this tomorrow?" He seemed twitchy,
so Jack just sort of pushed his way into the house.
"Why, you got better plans? Maybe a secret chat date
on archaeology dot com?" He snorted.
Daniel glared.
"No! Maybe I'm still tired?" Daniel tried.
"Now I KNOW something’s wrong." Jack narrowed brown eyes at
the younger man. Daniel ducked his head. He would NEVER admit to being
tired. Jack headed for the kitchen, and
looked around the apartment, noticing the faint smell of smoke and incense.
Daniel began to twitch slightly. Confronting the young man in the living room,
Jack put his hands on his hips.
"Oh for cry....." Was all that Jack got out before the sound
of an earthquake came from the guest bedroom. A slinky
guitar and drum beat cut into their conversation like a knife through butter. Unknown to them, the driving voice of Scott
Weiland was leading Velvet Revolver as "Slither" pumped out of the
portable CD stereo Annie had brought with her. They heard the shower start, but
before it could be used, a figure came out of the room, her presence all but
stopping time in the room. “When you look you see
right through me Cut the rope, fell to my
knees Fallen, broken every single
time..."
Annie walked into the kitchen, intent on something to drink before she
went into the shower. Completely disregarding whether Daniel was awake, Annie
hit the kitchen in nothing but a tank top with an anarchy symbol on it and a
black thong. The braids behind her ear bounced as she lightly danced, getting herself a drink of juice. Annie hated coffee. Just then, she
smirked to herself as Slash hit his guitar solo, writhing against the kitchen
counters before bouncing on the toes of her feet past the living room, stopping
to wave before carrying her juice off to the bathroom, singing along with the
throbbing metal assault. The door closed, muffling the song.
Jack was utterly speechless. He didn't know what to yell at Daniel for
first. At least Daniel had the good grace to turn beet red. He had no idea
Annie was going to come out like THAT. It's not quite how he imagined
introductions would be made. He was also embarrassed at seeing Annie in that
attire. Her entire body was on display and she didn't even seem to care. She'd
WAVED.
"Daniel?" Jack managed.
"Jack?" Daniel answered lamely.
"Do you mind explaining that?" His voice slightly rose. Daniel shook his head. Yes....yes he DID
mind. Because he didn't know where to begin.
"Annie...." Daniel said lamely, his voice sounding squeaking
even to him. "She needed a place to stay."
"Annie. Annie you say?" Jacks voice was dripping with sarcasm.
He couldn't get over what he'd just seen. Couldn't reconcile
it. He'd known Daniel for what seemed like his whole life, and NEVER
would he thought to see a display like that. A girl on every
planet that was the joke. It seemed now that Daniel was upgrading his
resume to include Earth girls who just SEEMED like they were from other
planets. And that music. He knew he was out of touch with the pulse
of youth, but THAT music was so far out of his reach, he never thought he'd
hear anything like that. The last time he'd heard that much racket, Led Zeppelin
was spinning in the barracks. Jack
had to admit one thing. Despite the casual display of her body, her obvious
lean towards society’s fringes, and her loud music, this particular girl held a
feeling, a vibe. When she entered the room, it was like it was hit with
lightening.
"So you just decided to what? Bring home a stray freak?"
"It's not nice to judge Jack." Daniel said quietly.
"She needs to go. Immediately. Like,
yesterday." Jack demanded. Daniels blue eyes narrowed.
"It’s MY house Jack! I say who stays and who goes. If I want to
keep Annie here for WEEKS I will. She knows nothing, and won't find OUT
anything." There as finality in Daniel’s words. It
reminded him of Ke'ra. When they'd found out she was really Linea, Daniel had
nearly blown a gasket, his grief over Sha're still consuming him and wanting to
hold onto something, even IF it was a woman better left alone. Jack knew
instantly that she couldn't force the issue. Daniel Jackson had dug in his
heels, and wasn't budging.
"Would it help if I said I actually slept once she was here?"
Daniel all but whispered. "Nightmares?" "Gone." Daniel said with some sort of sigh of
breath. Jack hissed inside. If this new presence HAD somehow tipped the balance
of power in Daniels life, he could only hope that she one, stayed, and two,
could appear somewhat normal when the other introductions came. One more stunt
like that, and this Annie character was on the one way track out of the
"families" protective circle.
Now, Jack was by no means a prude, but THAT was....well....he didn't
really have time to process it, and since she was obviously young enough to be
his daughter, her display made him feel a little lecherous. Not to mention the
look. But maybe.....just maybe....a jolt to the soul was just what the Doctor ordered.
"Well.....how about we start again? Dinner
tonight? Bring her.....we'll all meet her?" Jack ventured. It would
all depend on how possessive Daniel felt right now.
"Yeah okay.....she said she doesn't start work until ten, so how
about seven?" Jack nodded, and as he left, he wondered what he was leaving
his friend with. An old saying came to him. Sometimes nightmares are dreams
come true. End of Chapter Three of Coma White This story along with all original characters and situations were created
