Chapter 14: Reliving the Past, Facing the Future

"Days go by I'm hypnotized
I'm walking on a wire
I close my eyes and fly out of my mind
Into the fire
Light the sky and hold on tight
The world is burning down
She's out there on her own and she's alright..."

A Few Small Repairs (Sonny Came Home)
Shawn Colvin

"Aww Janet come on....I'm perfectly healthy." Annie whined. Her petition to go offworld had been granted, and she would start her courses with all four members of SG-1. Actually, it was Jack, Sam, and Teal'c mostly. Daniel had sort of been banned from her training sessions. Jack had caught him looking at Annie’s ass too much, and when the couple started melting the equipment with their stares, Jack had ordered Daniel out, but he'd gotten through to Annie anyway.

Deciding payback was in order Daniel went into a nearby bathroom and pleasured himself, sending it through the feedback loop they had built. But before he could get anywhere near finished, Annie had come bursting into the men’s room without an ounce of reluctance, and slammed open the door, a woman in search of her mate. The result was a mind blowing experience, and it had sent Daniel back to his office with his head spinning, and Annie back into the gym sheepishly.

Jack had dressed down Daniel for that stunt.

  "Daniel?"

  "Jack?"

"I know your lovely blackbird is hard to resist, but do me a favor? TRY!"

"Oh, come ON Jack, I was just havin’ a little fun with her. She does it to me all the time."

"Yes, but she's got zero impulse control. Kinda like you on a new world with lots of little toys to play with."

"Fine. Can I at least watch?" He pleaded.

"No Daniel. Until the two of you can stop molesting each other...physically OR psychically... every five minutes, you stay away from her while she's training. You want this she wants this, so stop playing games." Daniel felt like a scolded child, and pouted.

Jack shook his head, muttering something about 'bratty kids'.

So, now that Annie was into her lessons, the General had ordered that Annie go through a complete mission worthy physical. She was sitting on one of hospital beds, in a terrible tissue paper gown that didn't quite match the rest of her. She was twirling the hair of one of her braids, and waiting for the results of her tests.

"So, what’s the news Doc?" Janet smiled.

"You are the vision of health my dear. I do, however, suggest you stick close to your birth control."

"Don't worry about that. We're way too active for me to forget those gems."

Janet laughed and went to make the phone call. Annie frowned as one of her earrings fell off. She bent down to pick it up, and wrapped her hand around one of the lower bars to the bed for balance. Her mind was burned with a cascade of memories.

~ Her beloved Daniel wrapped in bandages, the searing pain of a body literally falling apart.

Sam crying asking him to hold on.

Teal'c with his tearful plea and offering him the statue

Jack mourning and saying goodbye to Daniel in a lit up ramp.

     Jacob stopping the healing device.

Pain wracking the strong body of her love. Then a flat line.

"I'm really gonna miss you guys."

     "Where ya goin?"

     "I dunno."

      Glowing and floating, gone~

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!" Annie shrieked so loudly and so fully that Janet dropped the phone. She rushed to Annie’s side, as she collapsed, curling into a ball and sobbing endlessly.

Jack came flying in the room.

"What happened?!" he asked loudly over Annie’s loud grieving sobs.

"Don't go...PLEASE. Stay with me." Jack looked at her hand still on the lower rung of the bed. He felt sick.

"Oh Doc, please....tell me that isn't the bed where....." Janet turned white.

"Oh my god....I didn't. I went to call General Hammond and then she was on the floor."

Jack looked and saw Annie’s earring on the floor. She must’ve bent to pick it up, and touched the bed...

  "Oh god. Someone get Daniel."

Daniel came rushing in to see Annie on the floor with tears streaming down her face.

  "What happened?!!" He whispered.

"That's the bed where you.....you....and she....touched it." Jack answered. He pried Annie’s hand off the rung of the bed.

"Oh...no....God no. She thinks it's real Jack. That it's happening." He bent down to pick her up and pull her onto his lap. She wasn't wearing much other than the gown, so he took off his BDU shirt and wrapped her in it.

"Annie...Annie baby. I'm right here. It's over. Annie....sweetheart. I'm here." He shook his head. She was in a feedback loop. Her worst nightmare. He picked her up. Cleared his throat.

"Janet...I need a private room." He became serious. If he didn't pull her out of this she'd destroy herself. There was only one way.

"Of course. This way." Janet led Daniel and his traumatized girlfriend into a room with a locked door. No one in without a keycard.

General Hammond came into the room where the sound had come from and the situation was explained to him. He winced.

"Doctor, I want that bed taken out of here and fed to the junkyard dogs."

"I'll take care of it personally." Jack called for Teal'c. Jack couldn't feel it like Annie could, but he sure as hell was going to make sure that bed never touched another soul.

In their private room, Annie was sightless and shaking on the bed. Daniel looked at her, not even he really remembered what went on in that bed. He unlaced his boots, and shed the rest of his clothes. Pulling off the paper gown, Daniel laid on top of Annie, wiping off the black tears.

"Annie baby....feel me. I'm warm and alive and whole." He dropped his head to her neck and sucked her favorite spot. She moaned he reacted. He rubbed himself on her like a body caress. She gasped.

"That's it Annie. I'm here. My heart beats. Strong and fast because right now I really wanna get started on you." Daniel teased. She opened her legs in an almost instinctual response to having him in her space this way. He shifted, and settled into the cradle of her hips. Daniel rubbed himself along her, and she closed her eyes. Snapping them open, she saw where they were and what he was about to do.

"Daniel. Oh god, I saw. I thought."

"I know honey. But it's not true. Look at me, feel me," He thrust his hips, "That feel dead to you?"

She gasped. Ran her hands over his skin, stopping to pay extra attention to his scar. He moaned. He liked that. The skin there was sensitive. As soon as Daniel feel her body bloom under his, ready to accept him. He drove in. Not too hard or fast, but enough to let her know the vitality and strength there in his very alive body.

"Oh Annie....I am SO alive. Feel me....oh....yeah..ummm..."

Annie jerked as if electrocuted. The livewire inside her brought to full attention, the connection they shared brought to life, and he could feel her. He felt her legs go around him, her arms around his neck, hands in his hair. She ground against him, making sounds he sure was relieved that the blast doors could contain.

"Daniel....DANIEL.....fuck yes...fuck me. Oh GOD you feel so good. So goddamned good."

Daniel went faster, whispering words of love into her ears. In all the languages he knew. A stream of nasty words in dialects she didn't understand. He bit her ear, and then there wasn't a lot of anything to BE heard but panting and groaning and curses. Finally the end came, and they both screamed into each others necks, life and energy crackling through the room. They collapsed, sweaty and trying to catch their breath.

  "Oh Annie....."

  "I thought......you were....."

"I know. I never thought to make sure that that bed was gone. I'm sorry."

"It's okay. You couldn't've known I'd find it."

They got up and dressed, someone nicely leaving Annie’s clothes right outside the door. Back in her fishnets, leather miniskirt, Nirvana baby-doll t-shirt, fishnet elbow gloves with the fingertips cut off, her tall buckled belts, and all her jewelry, Annie felt more like herself. She went right to her office to fix her makeup.  Afterwards, she faced the others.

"I am SO sorry. I didn't mean to freak out like that."

"It's perfectly understandable. Come with me Miss White." General Hammond led them to the 'Gate room. The klaxons were lighting up. Annie could see the bed broken into parts, and put into a bag.

"We dialed PTP-368, it’s a barren planet with no life and not suitable for travel." Sam explained. Jack and Teal'c throw the beds remains right through the gate. She watched it disappear, watching Daniels eyes, turned to a breathtaking blue with the color of the event horizon.

"Do you wanna explain what happened?" General Hammond asked her.

“Shit. I'd hoped to keep this private, but I guess I'd better explain. Telepaths have the ability, though rarely used due to the pain it causes, to develop a connection to another mind. A permanent one. I have avoided it like the plague, but....but...I love him," Annie actually blushed. "It allows me to do little things. Control dreams, flash pictures, but there’s a part of it that no telepath uses unless they're 100% sure. It's called a feedback loop. It means he can affect me just as much as I can affect him. It's a huge leap of faith because it allows the other person to literally mind fuck you. That "livewire" CAN be severed. Usually by a break in the relationship or...or....death. But when it’s severed, it feels like someone’s cutting every nerve in my body at once. The other person feels nothing, which is why Daniel didn't feel my distress, but it would literally be a death of something I would grieve. When...when I touched.....that....bed....it was like a false positive of the severing. I couldn't tell the difference. I only did it so I could help his nightmares and soothe his pain. And other things ....." She smirked and looked down.

"You put yourself at risk for my peace of mind Annie?!" Daniel cried. Annie winced.

"I'd hoped you would only think of it as a side affect of my power."

"Annie that was reckless and unnecessary." Daniel held her tighter.

"Oh yeah, pot...go ahead and call out the kettles." Annie shot back.

"Miss White, while I appreciate your intention to help Dr. Jackson, the risk to yourself is too great. I must ask you to remove the link."

"With all due respect. No. Until the day that Daniel says he doesn't want it anymore, doesn't love me, it stays." Annie replied with a finality that reminded him of the good Doctor himself.

"And if something should happen to him?"

"Wolves General....wolves." Annie explained. Hammond was confused. Jack said softly,

   "They mate for life."

Annie ducked her head. It was then that it was understood what a sacrifice that Annie had made for Daniel, and how far she was willing to go to keep it intact. She was literally willing to drain herself dry if it meant helping Daniel heal and be happy. Her green eyes looked around from person to person and only saw faces of people who'd done the same for years.

"Son, take Miss White home for the day. I believe you need a day off." Hammond pointedly looked at Daniel, who nodded. Understanding Annie’s motives left him with no doubt as to what he was going to do in two weeks. He was going to make her his wife, and spend the rest of his life blessing that sidewalk and that streetlight. And to hell with everyone else.

On the ride home, Annie looked at Daniel.

"You're not going to change your mind in two weeks are you?"

"No. I'm afraid not." Daniel looked over at her. His little dark brat.

Annie got a funny look on her face. Too much tension. She laughed and licked her lips. She slid down and ducked her head next to his side.

"Annie.....I'm driving." He told her, his eyes flashing a warning to behave from behind his glasses.

Annie giggled. She lifted his shirt on the right side. Daniel realized belatedly that’s where his scar was. Annie didn't forget. She licked her lips and he saw her tongue ring flash just before her warm, wet tongue was tormenting the sensitive skin of his scar. Oh...my.......god.

"A...A...Annie.....I'm......ooohhhh.....yeah.....Annie......I'm trying to d...d...d...rive...." Daniel whispered. He knew what the rest of this day and night was going to be like. When they got home, Annie was going to tear him apart. And he was going to let her.

The next day, things went back to a semblance of normalcy. Annie got some more objects to write reports on. She helped Sam with a project in her lab. And the connection between Annie and Daniel remained at a low buzz.

Jack appeared at Daniels door for lunch around noon. Daniel looked up. He'd been working solidly for hours. At least there always seemed to be a coffee there. It took him three cups to figure out it was Annie, reacting to his needs. After that, she got a suck on the neck. She actually liked that better than kisses. For one, it felt better and two, it didn't screw up her lipstick. Daniel rose to follow Jack out and root out the two females. As they walked, Daniel felt a twinge in his hip.

"What's wrong Danny? You need Frasier?" Daniel flushed.

   "No...I'll be fine." Jack smirked.

"Daniel. You're not 19, better not overdo it." He laughed. Daniel narrowed his eyes.

"Jack! You have no idea what yesterday was like! I tried to do a little work while she was napping. She snapped the laptop closed on my FINGERS and then handcuffed me to our bed!" Jack burst out laughing.

"So THAT’S the secret! We should've thought of that years ago."

    "JACK!" Daniel hissed indignantly.

Jacks laughter carried all the way to Sam’s lab, where they found one Air Force Major and one goth babe. A pair of bright blue eyes and a pair of bright green looked up. One blonde head with a sensible haircut and one cornrowed and pigtailed raven head. One in uniform, the other in leather and a corset. By observation, one would NEVER think that these two women would be sitting in the same lab, working on the same project. But this was the SGC, and the impossible was SOP.

"Daniel!" Annie skipped over to them and wrapped her arms around Daniels waist, nuzzling in and inhaling deeply.  She then hugged Jack in that paternal way and smiled brightly.

    "Hi Jack!"

    "Hey Brat, what'cha workin' on?"

"Well, they're little balls of naquda that SG-15 found. At first they thought they were bombs, but they weren't active, so they brought them to me. As soon as I touched them, I found out something interesting. They’re billiard balls."

"As in pool. Cue sticks?" Jack asked.

"Well, yes and no Sir," Sam continued. "They seem to have been used as some sort of game, but the inner workings are made up of complex computers that release signals upon impact. The decay rate on their usage has been close to..."

"Ahhhh!!!" Jack held up his hands.

"Sorry Sir." Sam said sheepishly. Annie giggled.

"Lunch I presume?" The young girl asked.

"Yep." Jack put his hands in his pockets.

   "Where’s Teal'c?"

   "I am present." Annie jumped.

"Ooohhh, I hate that. I can't sense you because of the tretonin."

   "I apologize. I was summoned."

"No prob....lunch time." She patted Teal'cs chest.

"Lets go, I'm hungry." Annie giggled.

   "You're always hungry Jack."

"Smart mouth. I should spank you, but I think that's Danny’s job." Daniel turned bright red.

   "Jack!"

They all laughed. The commissary was only about half full, but as usual, all heads went up as SG-1 and Annie walked in. The elite team and their archaeologists’ gothic girlfriend was a sight to behold. Some of the newer SFs had to have it explained to them, and that was always a treat. Most didn't know which was stranger in the end. The Jaffa or the Princess.

As they sat down, Sg-1 noticed they had an audience. Jack frowned. And all heads stopped looking. When a Colonel frowns, you turn away.

"Jeez.....is it me?" Annie asked thoughtfully, reaching for her jell-o, a move which was immediately circumvented by Daniel, who gave her a withering look and handed her a fork. Sam tried not to smile.

"Not entirely. We have been the source of attention for a very long time. Undue hero worship O'Neill calls it." Teal'c explained.

"Seven years and you'd think they'd gotten used to us popping in and out," Jack sighed, attacking a crouton. "But I DO hear you have a new nickname."

  "I'm afraid to ask."

  "Princess"

"Princess?! Why? Do I look like a princess?" Annie was astonished.

"No Annie, it's the treatment you get. You get to dress how you want, listen to music, talk to people how you want, you get away with murder baby." Daniel explained.

"Thank you for your support." Annie pouted. Daniel smiled and rubbed her thigh.

"Like I care. You shouldn't care. I had to get used to it too. And you dress....well...provocative. I don't care, the General doesn't, but you have a lot of freedom for this being a military establishment." Annie nodded.

"ANYWAYS.....beyond the story of the ranked and stupid, Hammond and I have set the ceremony date for four days from now."

"Okay. That gives me time to shop for new clothes. I can’t meet the Secretary of Defense in a schoolgirl skirt."

"Oh joy.....shopping." Daniel rolled his eyes. Annie narrowed hers.

"I was going to ask SAM to take me, but if you don’t shut up, it'll be YOU carrying my purse." Daniel winced.

   "Sorry baby."

Sam looked surprised. Annie wanted HER help?

"You sure Annie?" Sam asked. Their tastes couldn't be more different.

"Yeah. I need something a little more...uhhh...normal. I can’t honor my Dad if I don't look nice for him." Annie explained.

"I'd be happy to. Janet and Cassie could come too...?"

"That's a GREAT idea. I've been meaning to stop by and see her, but things are always so..."

"Busy...yeeahhh....that's been my excuse for six years. She understands. But, we might wanna take Daniel with us."

  "Why?"

Sam cupped her hand over her mouth and whispered secretly.

"She's got a crush on him." Daniel narrowed his eyes again.

 "She does NOT."

"Oh yes she does." Daniel blushed and ducked his head.

"Well, who could blame her really? This is prime real estate heah. Too bad she's too young to tell her ALL the reasons why." Annie made a big show of licking her spoon.

  "ANNIE!" Daniel cried.

  Annie burst into giggles.
