Chapter 18: Of Women, Warriors, and Worrywarts

"'Cause I'm just a girl, little 'ol me
Don't let me out of your sight
I'm just a girl, all pretty and petite
So don't let me have any rights..."
Just A Girl
No Doubt

The morning they arrived back at the SGC, they had a welcoming committee. Jack, Sam, and Teal'c were waiting at the bottom of the ramp. Annie had gotten dressed back into her civilization clothes, and Daniel was working the controls on the FRED. They kept stealing little looks at each other. Two people desperately in love. Annie laughed at the expectant eyes of their friends.

"Okay, I ask, where is my marching band?!" Annie laughed and hugged Jack, handing him a really pretty shell, the grey color and smooth lines belied its strength.

"It’s a really sturdy shell I found at the bottom of the lake. Daniel says it'll just end up being a change dish."

"Uh uh....paper clips." Annie laughed. She then took a huge bunch of multi-colored flowers out from behind her back. She handed them to Sam, and hugged her.

"Oh, they're beautiful!" Sam exclaimed, smelling in their unique scent. She couldn't wait to brighten up her lab with them.

"T....I found this black lava rock. It was near a deposit of rare rocks. It turns red in the right light, and I thought it would look pretty in the candlelight in your room." Teal'c bowed.

"You honor me with such a gift. I will indeed place it where I can see before meditation."

"You're welcome. I'm so happy to be home. I missed you guys. And he's lousy company after two days with no work." Daniels jaw dropped, until he saw the twinkle in her eye.

"Oh, you're SO funny. Shall I tell them what we WERE doing?" Annie’s brows rose.

"By all means." She challenged. He narrowed his blue eyes. Coughed.

"So, what's been goin on around here?" Annie smirked at the evasion, and the fivesome walked out of the gate room to the infirmary, where Janet had to perform a post-offworld check-up.

"Owww...Janet." Daniel winced as Janet poked about five sore spots. She lifted his shirt. Bruises bite marks and scratches. The area around his scar was red, raw, and had bruising on it. Janet coughed back a laugh.

"I'm scared to check below the waist." Daniel gave the Doctor a withering look.

"Please don't." But she had to, only to discover he was just as used and marked there. This time she had a harder time biting back her laughter.

"That's not very professional Janet!" He gasped indignantly.

"You're right....I'm sorry. I'm going to suggest you take it easy for the next few days. Your adrenaline and brain wave patterns are off the charts."

"Oh, I'm never going to hear the end of this."

The words were prophetic. Once Janet had reported her findings to the General and Jack, he became the butt of several of Jacks off color jokes. Injured....on his honeymoon. He caught up with Annie as she walked to her office.

"I thought I told you not to break him." Annie snorted.

"At least he's in one piece." Jack laughed.

"Don't give him too hard a time Jack huh?"

"Forget it Brat." He laughed wickedly and Annie snorted. She almost felt sorry for her husband. Almost.

It was that very day that Annie began to notice the change. SHE hadn't changed at all. Same braided bangs, same pigtails, same short skirt, thigh highs, fishnet shirt, tank top, bracelets, earrings, skulls and boots and piercings. Same black shadowed eyes and lipstick. She hadn't changed a thing. First, she came to her office door and noticed the plaque change.

  'Mrs. Annie Jackson'

Thank you very much for changing my nameplate. Next time, I'll remember to ask for something before they do it. Military. That was a slight annoyance, but didn't bother her too much. What did was the looks, the sideways glances. She passed an airman in the hallway on her way to Daniels office for lunch and it drove things home.

"Mrs. Jackson, good morning." He'd stood at attention almost.

"Michael....its Annie. For cryin' out loud, we play poker every weekend. Badly I might add."

"Sorry Annie....guess I'm just not used to it yet." Annie nodded and smiled, patting him on the shoulder. But there was this wall between them that hadn't been there before.

Walking into Daniels office, she frowned.

  "Honey?" Daniel looked up.

  "Yeah."

"Tommy Michaels just stood at attention and called me Mrs. Jackson. He's always called me Annie. Are all the friends I've made here just going to assume I'm too good to be their friend?"

"Oh Annie, I'm sure things will calm down, but the respect you've gained here isn't something that’s just going to go away." He came over to hug her. She was afraid that their marriage would change who she was and that simply wasn't the truth. After doing some work with him, she tentatively walked back to her office. Thankfully, it didn't happen again. Things did indeed calm down. People got used to seeing the gothic Queen of the SGC walking the halls smiling, sometimes skipping or teasing Daniel with one of her hated lollipops.

Later that week, she ran into Jack, who was on his way to Daniels office. Apparently, the Tok'ra had come up with an idea. He waved her into Daniels office. One the rest of SG-1 had appeared, they closed the door. Annie held her husband, and Jack laid it out.

"Annie, the Tok'ra have come up with a plan. They have this memory recall device..." Annie frowned, Jack was never nervous.

  "What's wrong Jack?"

"They thought it might work for them to hook both of you up to the device, and for you to use your link to dig out the Ancients information."

Both Annie and Daniels mouths dropped open.

  "Are you serious?"

"Annie, we could really use that information, and with you having that link..." Jack looked at anything but them; it was obvious that he didn't want to do this.

"Sam, can this be done....safely?" Annie looked at Daniel, who had gone stoned faced.

"I don't...I don't know. I mean, it nearly destroyed the colonel when it happened to him in that repository, but with Daniel having actually BEEN one of them...." She trailed off.

"No." Annie said simply. All three looked up.

"There’s a lot of information in there. It's hidden beyond an invisible door. Hard to find and even if...." She looked at Daniel who was at once hopeful and scared all at once. She knew he wanted that information just as much as the rest of them did. But she HAD done a lot of digging in their time together, and come across the very door she was talking about.  She'd just brushed it, found out what was there, and then left it alone. That part of his mind was protected, almost by some combination lock only one person had the key for. She couldn't deny its importance, but the damage of not only breaking through that door, then the massive amount of knowledge could be something he wouldn't come back from.

"Do you know what's IN there? Listen, I'm an expert at this, even more than your idiot friends so called devices." Jack snorted. Annie continued.

"The information in there is massive. No, beyond massive. You could hook up ten thousand supercomputers and they STILL couldn't handle the download. Once they DO get to it, what do these people think they're going to do with it? There's nowhere to put it where it could be stored or used, and the extraction process could kill him...or both of us. I sure couldn't handle the overflow." Annie looked at the group gathered there.

"Look, I know the brass must be pushing for this idea seeing as he could have something in there that could help you defeat Anubis, but there’s no safe way to do this. Not even the Asguard could save him if this seeped into his fore consciousness. They left him like this for a reason. Besides, have any of you thought about what could happen if any of this got into the wrong hands? If we DID unlock it and the Gao'uld get a hold of even one bit of the information? No, you go tell Anise and her little snaky friends to stay the hell away from my husband’s brain. I've never been happy with the idea of him dead with the 'glowworms' but this is one decision where I'm with them. Daniels health and safety comes first, so Oma’s little door stays locked." With that, the subject was closed.

"I too, believe this is a wise course of action." Teal'c agreed and bowed.

"Finally, I can tell them to go screw off.....see how THEY like it." Jack was never happy with the decision, and now that Annie had called a stop to it, there was nothing they could do. The Tok'ra could take their memory devices and go crawl back into their little crystal hidey holes.

  Sam laughed.

"Dinner?" Annie brightened, and Daniel had taken a deep, calming breath, knowing his young wife had done the best thing for them both. He kissed her on the cheek. They all agreed to meet at Jacks that night and then the couple had the office to themselves.

Walking down the hallway, Jack commented.

"Ya know I really love that girl."

Sam and Teal'c nodded. Protecting their own was key. Annie protected. With claws if necessary.

Back in their office, Daniel came up behind Annie.

"You know sex is going to be fabulous tonight don't you?" He whispered. Annie gasped.

   "Really?" She smirked.

"I love it when you get all fierce to protect me. Makes me hard." Daniel blushed. He still had a difficult time with saying nasty things, but he was working on it.

"I..I did the right thing didn't I? I know you wanted..." Daniel hushed her gently, and then brushed his lips against hers.

"I do want it, but you're right. My safety comes first. And if that means ruffling a few feathers, well, wouldn't be the first time." He laughed and moved to her throat. Ran his hand under her skirt to her ass. Kneaded the soft flesh there.

   "Daniel?"

   "Annie?"

"What are you doing?" She giggled. Ran her hands into the brown spikes of his hair.

"Oh nothing." He kicked the door closed, knowing that if anyone saw it closed, and they’d leave. He never closed his door unless he wanted to be alone with Annie or he wasn't there.

"This is nothing?" Annie teased, pulling a lollipop out and putting it into her mouth. The sugary taste enveloped her senses.

"Oh yeah...lots of nothing..." Daniel moved his fingers under her thong to play with her. She was so wet. He rubbed her clit. Annie dropped her head back on his shoulder, and moaned. She tried to turn, to reciprocate the pleasure, but he stopped her.

"No Annie, just enjoy." He popped the lolli out of her mouth, then put in his, and sucked on her lollipop while he listened to her moan and the wet wounds of her body as he played with it. Oh, life was so goooood.

  ONE WEEK LATER

"General, did I just hear SG-1 call in from a completely different planet?" Annie asked. She leaned against the doorframe.

"Yes Annie, they evidently got waylaid by Jaffa, and then were aided by female Jaffa, and they invited SG-1 to their home world to talk alliance."

"Female Jaffa. Reminds me of the Amazons," Annie said thoughtfully. "Any danger?"

"Jack said everything was alright, so not for the moment." Annie shrugged.

"Okay. If you need me, I'll be in my office, trying to climb out from under the pile of work that collected during my honeymoon. God, could this government be any more obsessed with wasting trees? It never ends!"

Hammond laughed. He thought that same thing everyday.

When Jack and Sam arrived a few hours later in the gate room with four Jaffa women for some sort of experiment with Tretonin, Annie was called out of her office. She walked into the briefing room, pop in mouth. Jack, Sam, and Hammond were all looking at her funny, and she looked from person to person.

  "What?"

"Are you sure he said as is?" Hammond asked.

  "That’s what he said."

Annie was so confused. She shook out her long blue black hair, in its pigtails with cute little holders decorated with red ribbons. Her braided bangs were tucked behind her ears, one of which was pierced ten times, alone with her two eyebrow, nose, and lip piercings. She was wearing silver keys on long silver strand earrings. Her skintight long-sleeved, red satin mini-dress was cut low in the front, allowing her breasts to be pushed up by the accented thick strapped vinyl corset, with its thick buckles. Her belt with its three hanging chains was clipped to her waist.  She had black fishnet thigh highs on, with the tops decorated with red satin ribbon and little bows. Her high heeled chunky boots had red laces in them. Her usual amount of pendants, necklaces, bracelets, and a tight leather band around her neck. Her eyes were heavily lined, with a hint of red shadow, and bright red lipstick today instead of the usual black. When Sam had asked about it, she said Daniel liked red and called the particular shade 'Whore Red' by Urban Metals. Annie looked down at herself. 'They oughta be used to this by now.'

"Is there a booger hanging from my nose ring?" Annie asked. Jack laughed until Hammond glared at him.

"We're having a little trouble with the female Jaffa. They don't trust men. Carter has to be here supervising the experiment with Frasier, so that leaves Daniel and Teal'c there alone. Now, they’re in no immediate danger, but we could use another woman’s presence. We could send through some female soldiers, but that would just scare them.....so we thought you might want to go." Annie’s eyes lit up.

"Sure, I'd love to go! What did you mean 'as is'?" Jack squirmed.

"Well, we were a little confused if they could handle seeing you like....you are. But making you change would just solidify their belief that we oppress women. Not that it's gonna help much." he jerked his thumb at the glass window where Col. Reynolds and SG-2 was gearing up.

"Oh...he didn't....BABYSITTERS?" Annie shouted indignantly. Sam winced.

"Listen, there's a Gao'uld named Maloc who could show up at any moment. Please try and understand. They're not babysitters Annie, they're....bodyguards." Sam tried.

   "Can't we call them off?"

"Dr. Jackson insisted said it was the only way you were getting through that gate with a Goa'uld so close. Annie, I know this is hard, but I agree. Despite the obvious emotional concerns, your safety and security is important." Hammond said softly.

So it was that a few minutes later, after grabbing her heavy black motorcycle jacket, she went down into the gate room. She looked balefully at Col. Reynolds.

"Sorry you're stuck making Ring Around the Wifey." Reynolds smiled.

"Listen Annie. I was there the day Sha're died. I was there the day that HE died, and the day he came back. All of us volunteered to do this. I asked to be the point on your protection detail. Dr. J is important to us all Annie, and you're the most important thing in his life. There's not a man or a woman on this base that wouldn't give our lives to see you safe." Annie teared up.

"Thank you Colonel. Okay, let’s go." Annie stood at the end of the ramp, watching the event horizon stabilize. She fingered the tube of red lipstick in her pocket. Reynolds had her necessities packed in his pack, so she just walked right through.

On the other side of the 'Gate, there were about ten female Jaffa waiting for her. Walking or riding horses, they gaped at her. 'Oh this is just perfect.' Annie thought sourly. First contact becomes a cultural disaster. They were all in their leather and skins, reliable and tough warrior clothing. And here she was looking like an alien.....even for a Tau’ri. The marine wall in front of her parted, and one of the Jaffa, a stunningly beautiful blonde with braids in her hair and a gold tattoo on her head offered her hand.

"You are Annie of Brooklyn, mate of DanielJackson?" Annie nodded.

"That would be me." She said, offering her hand. The warrior took it.

"I am Ishta. Leader of the Haktyl. You are.....not what we expected."

"I'll bet. More military.....dressed like Samantha? No, I'm not in the military. I work for them, but one of them." Annie explained.

"Your manner of dress is....quite unique." Ishta offered. In truth, the Jaffa had no idea what to make of Annie. She was dressed provocatively, but too bold even for a Goa'uld. Ishta had been warned that Daniels wife was strange, but this was unexpected. But, Ishta had to give Annie her beauty. She seemed confident and honorable. And that's all that mattered. She was, however, confused by her escort. Did Tau’ri men not let their women walk around unguarded?

"Listen, the guards must seem odd, but my husband’s first wife was taken by a Goa'uld and later killed. He's scared. And I'm not a warrior." Annie explained quietly.

"If you wish to learn, we can teach you." Annie bowed.

"Thank you." Ishta seemed satisfied. If Daniel had indeed suffered great loss, he was well within his rights to see his new mate protected.

They rode to the village, and Annie walked in still talking with Ishta. Annie seemed to be putting the females at ease her carefree humor and her curious manner of dress were a source of diplomatic soothing.

Daniel stood up as soon as he saw Annie walk in. Protected by Colonel Reynolds and the rest of SG-2, and talking to the Jaffa like it was just another day. When the idea of bringing Annie here had been brought up, Daniel had objected strongly, but he'd been overruled by Jack, who said he needed to get over it someday. But he'd put his foot down when it came time for her to come alone, and insisted on an escort. God, he was so scared. Annie had been his wife for just over two weeks. He was practically radiating fear.

Annie wanted to be mad at him, she really did. But the fear in those beautiful blue eyes and the breaking of his heart erased her irritation and replaced it with her need to soothe and comfort him. She stayed with the guard until she could be transferred into his safe keeping. She gave him a frown, but couldn't keep it. She WAS going to have a talk with him, but not until they were at home. The safety of their bedroom would be a good place to discuss his over-protectiveness. She understood it, but she couldn't take it. They would have to come to a compromise, but right now, he was simply too afraid, and so she put herself into his arms. Daniel hugged her tightly, and tipped her head back to suck on her neck.

  "Daniel..." Annie whispered.

  "Mmmm...?" He moaned.

"Daniel!" Annie said more forcefully, and Daniel let go. He had to anyway, before he put on a really inappropriate show. As it was, he was starting to send a lot of blood south, and he sure wasn't going to drag her off to a tent on a strange planet with a new potential ally just so he could get off. He'd wait until tonight.

Ishta actually smiled, and Teal'c raised his brow while one corner of his mouth tilted up.

"They are truly new mates." Ishta commented, her eyes soft.

"I witnessed the ceremony just over two weeks ago. She is a formidable warrior. The Hak'tar." Ishta gasped.

"Then they do exist?" She asked.

"Indeed. I have myself seen AnnieJackson read the minds of others, and read the mind of Anubis. She cannot read the minds of Jaffa, either with a symbiote or on the Tretonin. She does not know why."

"Actually T, I've got a theory about that." Annie said, divesting herself of her jacket, laying it over a beam that seemed to be unused at the moment, "I think its brainwaves. Something about having a symbiote or the successor of Tretonin messes with them so much I can't latch on. Too bad. But the Gao'uld have a different frequency because they allow themselves to BE vulnerable due to a mix of forcing one mind to assert itself and extreme arrogance. Their loss, MY gain." She smiled and pointed at her head. Fearless. Willing to go up against the Goa'uld and willing to use her power to help. The Jaffa seemed to be happy too. She was instantly one of them. And on a personal note, her husband couldn't take his eyes off her.

Daniel groaned. Her tightest vinyl corset. The shiny fabric stretched over her equally as tight red dress, so short, it could’ve been a long shirt. her breasts pushed up, moving with every breath, her mile long legs encased in fishnets, knee high chunky high heeled boots made of vinyl as well, and boosting her long legged stance, the red laces in them a testament to his latest admission to his favorite erotic color being red. She'd even switched her signature black lipstick to a shade called 'Whore Red', with a bee sting extract in it that plumped Annie’s already plump lips up. Now he was vibrating something else, god, with her safely surrounded by Marines and Jaffa, he realized his wife looked like a hooker and he would've given his whole paycheck to have her underneath him. Annie licked her lips.

Jesus, what was wrong with him, they were in the middle of a mission and all he could think about was getting home. To screw his wife. Daniel shook his head to clear it. Annie excused herself and walked over to her husband.

"You really can't blame them Daniel. Is it the right move in the long run, no, but their children are dying, getting burned to death. If we were home Daniel, the United States would RUN to the nearest country perpetrating this crime and bomb it into a bigger hole than it was," Annie put her hand on her hip, "Once we got overdue permission from the assholes at the U.N. My point is we have to help these women. Now. And YOU have to get T to back off Ishta. I am SO not getting involved in that."

"So you want ME to?" Daniel folded his arms over his chest. Annie narrowed her eyes, put her hand on her hip and changed position. He turned his blue eyes to irresistible fire. Realizing they had to come to a compromise, they just breathed together.

  "Jack." They nodded. And laughed.

In the end, it went as well as it could. The Haktyl agreed to the Tretonin, and a plan was formed to take down Maloc carefully. Annie was offered a place among them to train, but Daniel said they'd have to discuss it. Leaving Annie on another planet that was being hunted by a Goa'uld wasn't high on his top ten list of things to do. When they were all saying goodbye, and T planted a hot one on Ishta, Annie and Daniel grinned, wondering how long it would take them to admit to feelings they had and get it on. Probably longer than it had taken the archaeologist and the telepath. Much longer.
