Chapter 8

To say that Sam was scared would be an understatement; Daniel could feel her shaking like a leaf in a storm while she clung to him.  Never had Daniel known here to be like this in all the years that he had known here.  Without even asking, he knew that it was the vehemence in her dad’s voice that had her so worried.  He would have to intercept Jacob before he got anywhere near Sam.

As the group of people entered the infirmary, Dr. Warner immediately directed them to one of the private rooms so that they would be out of the “public” eye.  Every one of her team members could tell that the normally unshakable Major Carter was completely overwrought.  The way she clung to Daniel’s arm and that Freya/Anise kept stroking her back did not go unnoticed.

~ “Oh god Jolinar, my dad is so mad at me.  He has not had that tone of voice with me since I was in high school and I he found out I had gotten drunk at a friend’s house.” Sam cried to her life-partner. ~

~ “It is not you that he is mad at my dear one.” Jolinar soothed.  “He was shocked at detecting my presence, not mad.” ~

~ “You do not know my dad the way I do.” Sam practically cried.  “He does not take well to surprises, especially something like this.” ~

~ “Selmak will calm him before he gets here little one.” Jolinar said hugging her host from within.  “Right now, take comfort in the arms of our mate…can you not feel him holding us, comforting us?” ~

Smiling up at Daniel, Same sunk further into his embrace.  Daniel had always been there for her when she needed to be comforted…all except that one year he was ascended.  Looking into his eyes, she could become lost in the love that he held for her and would do so happily.  All too soon, the sound of Dr. Warner’s voice broke her out of the spell that Daniel’s eyes had pulled her in.

“Sam, I need to do a complete physical on you before we get to any of the blood and tissue work.” Dr. Warner was saying to her.  “I need for everyone to step out of the room so that I can do my work.” She said looking at the group.

Daniel looked briefly at the group and then at his freighted love.  Gazing into her eyes to see if she wanted him to stay or go, he was relieved to see that she wanted him to stay put.  Settling her on the bed and standing to her side, Daniel made it evident that he was going nowhere.

“Dr. Warner, I want Daniel and Anise/Freya to stay.” She pleaded looking into Dr. Warner’s eyes.  “They have already seen everything I have and I need them.”

“Okay, but everyone else, OUT!” Dr. Warner demanded.

With grumbles coming from Jack and a nod from Teal’c, Dr. Warner closed the door behind the two other members of SG1.

Speaking softly, Dr. Warner approached Samantha where she was perched on the bed.  “Sam, how are you feeling?  I am asking as a friend right now, I will be a doctor in a few minutes…but right now, I am your friend.”

“I am scared Dr. Warner.” Sam answered honestly.  “Not of Jolinar, but of the way that everyone is going to act now and the way my dad is already acting.”

“Don’t worry about Jacob.” Dr. Warner replied.  “He was just shocked, as we all are, and he will calm down.  I know that Selmak will not let him me mean to you.”

“That is kinda what Jolinar told me.” Sam said relaxing a little as she still held onto Daniel’s hands.

Daniel gave Sam’s hands a little squeeze to reassure her that he was there for her; never once taking his eyes off of her.

Even though she wanted to be jealous of the single-minded devotion she saw between Samantha and her Daniel, Freya/Anise could not even entertain the feeling.  For them to be that much closer then her and Daniel was only natural because or the length of time they had been together.  From the stuff they had overheard around the base, this was a long time in the coming.  If one was to believe the tales, she would believe that Daniel and Samantha had always been in a romantic relationship, but she knew better.  It made it all that more special that she was a part of it.

~ “Yes young one, what they have is something I think we have never seen.” Anise told Freya. ~

~ “It is amazing that they are like that.  I wonder if he will ever have the same level of connection with us?” Freya wondered. ~

~ “Even if he does not have the same depth with us that he has with Samantha, he will give us all the love that we need and want.” Anise soothed her host. ~

~ “You are right and I would not want to interfere in that kind of love.  That kind of emotion is something our race has long since forgotten.” Freya mused. ~

~ “Yes, but not that we and Jolinar share in it, maybe it is something our race will once again know.” Anise said hugging her host. ~

As Dr. Warner went about all of the normal tests, she took notes on Sam’s chart.  Interspersed with physical checks, she asked Sam questions about her mental state and other things that were required for the records.  When it came time for the pelvic exam, the color rising into the cheeks of both Sam and Daniel was unmistakable.  As Sam stood to disrobe, Daniel turned his back to preserve her modesty.

“Daniel, you do not have to do that.” She admonished him.  “You have seen me in far worse conditions and far better.”

“I know, Sam, but I wanted you to have a measure of privacy for what is about to be done.” Daniel said with a compassionate voice.  “I will be right here for you, but still want you give you that...”

~ “My, our Daniel is such the gentleman.” Jolinar commented. ~

~ “That is like him, always has been.” Sam replied to her symbiote. ~

~ “I have not yet begun to examine your memories or emotions my Samantha, but I do believe that I love him very deeply.” Jolinar said in some awe. ~

~ “You had better.” Sam said with a little edge to her voice. “Because, if you are in me, you are stuck with him.” ~

~ “I would have it no other way my Samantha.” Jolinar said smiling.  “Sometimes a host or a symbiote must learn to love the mate of the other, but I do not feel that I will have to “learn” at all.  My love for Martouf and Lantash was great, but what I feel for Daniel is so much more.” ~

~ “I wonder if the way he “woke” you up this morning has anything to do with that?  Sam giggled to Jolinar. ~

~ “It could be, my Samantha, but it is more than that.” Jolinar laughed.  “I have not felt like this before, and I am quite old.” ~

Returning her attention to what was going on, Sam was surprised to see that Dr. Warner had already finished.  “Wow, I did not even feel you do the exam.” Sam said with surprise to Dr. Warner.

“That was probably because you seemed to be distracted.”  Dr. Warner smirked.  “Do I even want to know that you were thinking about?”

The blush that started to suffuse Sam’s face was quickly squashed by Jolinar as she took over.  “Not what you are thinking Dr. Warner, I assure you.  I was taking with her during that time to distract her so that she would not become uncomfortable.  I also numbed that area so she would not feel it.”

“Well, that would be something handy for all women that have to have this done.” Dr. Warner said with a chuckle.

With the exam completed and once Sam was redressed, Daniel turned back around and the others were let into the room.  Upon seeing that Jacob was about to come in, Daniel quickly left Sam’s side and pulled Jacob away from the door.

“Daniel, what are you doing, I want to go see my daughter?” Jacob said a little stunned at the way Daniel had acted.

“Jacob, I wanted to speak with you before you go in there to Sam.” Daniel said in a no-argument voice.  “You scared her this morning with the way you acted towards her.”

“I did not mean…” Jacob started.  “You are right.  Selmak just replayed for me the events and the way I over-reacted when I came into the mess-hall.  It was not my intention to scare her…I was kinda scared my self.  The last I had known was that she had naquada traces, not an energy signature and that put me on edge.”

“I understand where you are coming from.” Daniel said a little embarrassed.  “Jolinar kinda surfaced at very delicate time.”

Laughing a little at the look on Daniel’s face, Jacob patted him on the shoulder.  “Daniel, I have always thought my daughter would be best with you if she was with anyone.  You make her happier than I have seen her in a long time.  Thank you.”

Shaking his head, Daniel took Jacob’s hand in a shake and nodded his head.  “She make me happier than I can ever recall being.  Even with Sha’re I was not this happy.  It scares me.”

“You keep wondering what will happen next, huh?”  Jacob said with a knowing look.  “It was the same for me with her mom.  I think it is the same with any man that finds his heart with a woman.”

Turning the two men walked into the private room where everyone else waited.  Seeing the relaxed look and the love in Daniel’s eyes, Sam lost her worry and took the embrace that her dad was extending.

“You have quite the knight there.” Jacob whispered into Sam’s ear.  “I think he was ready to challenge me if he thought I was going to hurt you in any way.”

“I think you are right.  Daniel loves me more than I have ever known possible.” Sam returned in the same whisper.

“You did good kid.”  Jacob whispered back.  “It took you long enough, but you did good.”

Feeling a great sense of relief wash through her, Sam realized she had been worried that her dad would not approve of her being with Daniel.

~ “I told you that there was nothing to worry about.” Jolinar cackled. ~

~ “Hush you.” Sam said smiling.
