Chapter 9

“So, what now?” Sam asked the gathered group in a huff.

“Well, I guess we wait for the Tok’ra…”, Daniel said exhailing.

At that moment, the base alarm went off followed quickly by the announcement of an off-world activation.  As they had always done, SG1 jumped up and ran for the elevator and subsequently the control-room.

Arriving just in time to hear that it was the Tok’ra IDC, the group turned on their heels and headed for the embarkation room.  Waiting at the foot of the ramp to the gate, the group’s anxiety levels good be seen etched on their faces by the Marines that manned the gateroom defenses.  If SG1 was not happy, then nobody was happy.

As the moments dragged on and nobody stepped through the gate, the group looked back up to the control room where MSgt. Harriman shrugged his shoulders.  Just as General Hammond was about to order the gate to be shut-down, High councilor Per’sus ran through the gate shouting, “The Tok’ra are under attack.”

Selmak taking control of Jacob’s shared body dashed up the ramp to keep Per’sus from falling over.  Looking at the High councilor, Selmak spoke, “How bad is it, and who?”

“It is the forces of Ba’al.” Per’sus replied recovering his demeanor.  “They were just starting to attack the surface, we were unable to evacuate everyone through the Chappa’ai because they did not appear on any sensors until his forces were already in orbit.  If it had not been for the fact that we had already started to move to a new base…I was shoved through by my escorts before they engaged Ba’al’s forces.”

Turing to look over his shoulder, Colonel O’Neill did not even get the chance to ask before General Hammond spoke through the microphone.  “SG1, you have a go to assist the Tok’ra with evacuation efforts, take SGs 2 and 10 for backup.  Major Carter, you are to stay behind.”

As O’Neill and Teal’c headed for the door, Daniel stepped up to Sam and took her in his arms.  “Sam, we expected this to happen.  Hammond is only trying to keep you safe.”

“I know Daniel.” Samantha replied downcast while returning the hug.  “I will wait for y’all to return but I will not be happy about being left behind.”  She looked up when she felt a hand laid on her shoulder.

In a never seen display, General Hammond addressed Samantha directly in a low voice.  “Sam, I have known you since you were knee-high to a grasshopper.  I can not take the chance at this time that something with you and your symbiote will not be properly connected and it put you in danger.”

Patting the General’s hand, Samantha replied, “I know Uncle George.  I just hate being left out when my team and my friends are going off.”

Seeing the confused look on the face of Per’sus, Jacob was the first to recover from the sudden shock of the personal moment.  “I think that we had better get you to the conference room Per’sus.  There is something that you need to know.”

The words were not out of Jacob’s mouth before Per’sus spun looking directly at Sam with a look of bewilderment on his face.  “You are a host, again!” he shouted.

Flinching for the briefest of seconds, it was Jolinar that responded to the outburst.  “You were always an observant one, Per’sus.” Jolinar said sarcastically.  “Let us go to the conference room before you create a diplomatic incident.”  With that, Jolinar stormed off through the doors towards the conference room leaving a very stunned group of people standing in the gateroom.

“Right, I think I would rather be facing Ba’al.” Daniel remarked.

“I believe I second that.” Jacob said.

Coming back into the gateroom and handing Daniel his gear and weapons, Jack was smirking.  “Man was Carter pissed.  I feel sorry for who ever caused that.”

Glaring up through the conference room window Selmak replied,  Yeah, I wonder who that was.”  Something about Per’sus was just not sitting right with either Jacob or Selmak.

All other thoughts were pushed out of mind as the gate started dialing up the Tok’ra base and SG1, sans Carter, SG2, SG10, and Anise/Freya assembled in the room at the foot of the ramp.  Hammond looked over the assembled troops.  “I do not know what you will be facing, but everyone be careful and help the Tok’ra out as much as you can.”

As the vortex of the gate stabilized, Anise/Freya ran up the ramp and through a Goa’uld shock grenade through and counted to 10.  Once ten was reached, Anise ran through the gate followed quickly by the rest of the rescue force.  Per’sus continued to gape at how quickly everything had gone down as he was lead by Jacob to the Tauri conference room.

Upon reaching the conference room where Samantha was staring out the window towards the Stargate, Jacob stopped and placed his hand on her shoulder in a comforting gesture.  “Sammie?” he asked.

“I am alright dad, just a little upset at not being allowed to go with my team.  What if something happens to Daniel because I am not there to watch out for him.” She sniffed.  “I only just got him back.”

“I know Sam, he will be alright.” Jacob soothed.  “He has Jack, Teal’c, Anise, and Freya to look after him.  Plus has this knack for not staying dead even when he is killed.”

Snorting, Sam turned around to look at her dad.  “That does not help dad, he may keep coming back…but that does not stop him from being captured or leaving in the first place.”
