Chapter 16

Daniel slowly started coming around to the sound of water intermittently dripping somewhere around him.  His head ached like it had been sat on by and elephant, while the rest of his body felt oddly numb.  The fact that he remembered the abuse he had suffered had left several broken bones and other injuries, his body should be hurting like his head…but it didn’t.  The last image he saw before blacking out came rushing back into his mind and once again he softly called out the name, “Chaka.”

Hearing the whisper coming from the human he had just rescued, the Unas slowly crept over to the prone figure with a bowl of green liquid.  Kneeling down beside him, the Unas slowly spoke in a soothing sound.

“Not Chaka.  I am Chena.  I am Chaka’s daughter.”  She said as she gently lifted Daniel’s head into her lap.

“Chaka’s daughter?”  Daniel asked in confusion.

“You are Daniel; my father’s friend?”  Chena stated.  “I have your image in my mind, passed down from my father.”

“Did you rescue me from Zor, Chena?”  Daniel asked trying to keep awake.

“I found you after the false one left.”  Chena explained.  “Hush, you must rest.  Drink this grok, it will help you to heal.”  Chena said as she tipped the bowl to Daniel’s lips.  “You have many injuries, but this will help ease the pain and heal you.”

After taking several gulps of the awful tasting, grok, and sputtering when he tried to cough, Daniel felt like his whole body was suddenly very warm.

“Chena, I thank you for helping me.”  Daniel said with a thousand-watt smile.  “How do you speak my tongue, Chaka was not able to speak but a few words?”

“Father brought me to a new planet when I was just a young one.”  Chena relayed as she gazed into Daniel’s blue eyes.  “I was raised by others like you and learned to speak their tongue.”

“Where is Chaka?” Daniel asked on realizing what she had said.

“My father was killed helping those that raised me.  He fought the Jaffa that came while the others escaped.”  Chena said in a sad voice.  “They raised me in his honor for helping them.”

Feeling his strength returning and the pain going away, Daniel attempted to sit up but was held in place by Chena’s firm hands.

“You should not move yet.”  Chena pleaded.  “The grok will make you feel better, but it takes time to heal…you are not ready yet.”

Relaxing back into her lap as much by her soothing tone as by the effects of the grok, Daniel continued to speak with her.

“I am sorry for Chaka’s loss.”  Daniel sighed.  “He was very kind to me and helped me.”

Smiling down at the human in her lap, Chena suddenly remembered something.  “Father asked that if I ever came across you, to give you a message.  He said that you helped him more than you ever knew and that he was honored to have known you.  Many of the Unas would not be free if not for you and your friends.  He said that your meeting was meant to be.”

Daniel smile as a tear made it’s way down his cheek on hearing those words.  So long he had worried at what had become of Chaka since he left him to lead the Unas rebellion on that planet where others of his kind were hunted and then enslaved.

“Thank you, Chena.” Daniel said as his eyes drooped shut and he slipped into a peaceful slumber.

“You are welcome, Daniel, and thank you.”  Chena said with a little smile.
