Chapter 19

Daniel had just woken up from his sleep and felt better than he had in a long time.  Recalling where he was and what he had been through recently, he ran through a mental inventory of his body and discovered that nothing seemed to hurt.  Preparing to sit up, Daniel quickly realized that he was covered with some kind of fur blanket and had nothing on underneath.  Looking around the cave he discovered he was in, Daniel could not see anything that looked like his clothes.  Something felt off to him as he continued to look over the cave.  Thoughts of Chena came flooding back into his mind.

A sudden noise to his right brought Daniel into a reflexive crouch as he watched that direction for an attack.  Slowly, he saw something push what looked like another fur covering aside and Chena stepped out from the other side.

Chena quickly glanced in the direction where she had left Daniel and saw him crouching like he was about to spring an attack.  She stopped moving and stared at him for several seconds trying to figure out what was going on.

Seeing that it was Chena, Daniel started blushing and then relaxed back down onto the pallet he had been laying on.

“Sorry about that, Chena.”  Daniel said recovering from his blush and surprise.  “I saw that I was alone and did not know who was coming in.”

“Ah.”  Chena said with a faint smile.  “I was out searching for stuff.  I found this.”  She said holding up the SGC issue equipment.  “It has symbols on it like what your coverings had when I found you.”

Seeing that Chena was holding the vest he had been wearing when he was abducted, Daniel started to get up and remembered a little too late that he was nude.  Seeing Chena quickly turn her head away, Daniel turned a deep crimson and grabbed the blanket up around his waist.

“Uh, sorry about that.”  Daniel said mortified.  “That is some of my missing gear from when I was captured.  I guess I got a little excited.”

Chena stayed looking away from Daniel and lifted the stuff in her hands out in his general direction.  The sudden sight of his naked body without the bruises to distract from it had her previous thoughts stampeding through her mind.  Once she sensed he had probably covered himself, she turned to look at him.

“I had to cut your clothes away to treat your injuries.”  Chena said hesitantly.  “I do not have them anymore because they were no longer any good.”

Feeling very embarrassed that she had seen him undressed, twice now, Daniel stood in place looking down at the ground.

“Thank you for tending to me, Chena.”  Daniel said in a soft voice.  “I would probably be dead if you had not.”

“I only put the grok on you, and had you drink it.  It was what healed you.”  Chena said looking bewildered.

Stepping forward to take the vest and stuff of his from Chena, Daniel pointedly avoided looking into her eyes.

“Uh, thanks for bringing this stuff to me.  You wouldn’t happen to have anything I can put on, would you?”  Daniel asked shyly.

Thinking for a moment, Chena looked at him briefly when a memory flashed into her mind.

“I took some coverings from a strange Jaffa that was dumped here by the false ones.”  Chena said in thought.  “Maybe they fit you.”

Rushing back through the way she had come, Chena went in search of the black stuff she had removed from the pale white Jaffa.

“Silly girl.”  Chena reminded herself.  “He is human and not compatible with Unas.  He can not be with you in the way that your body wants.  But, oh how he looked when he was standing there without coverings.”  Chena giggled to herself at the feeling racing through her blood.

“If he was Unas, we could have him.”  Chena’s naughty voice told her.  “He would make a good mate.”

“Bad voice.” Chena chided.  “He is not Unas and can not be ours.  He belongs to others.”

Daniel stood staring at the place where Chena had suddenly seemed to run from.  Getting over his temporary embarrassment at being seen in the nude by her, he could not shake the feeling that something was different with her from other Unas.  Maybe it was the fact that she had been raised by humans that seemed to have her acting differently from the Unas he had met in the past.

Minutes later, Chena returned with a bad that she sat next to him on the floor.  Moving away from Daniel before she gave into impulse, Chena ducked back out of the entrance to this section of the cave.

Still puzzling over Chena’s odd behavior, Daniel knelt down and dumped the bag out on the pallet.  Staring in shock at what poured out, he came out of his confusion with amazement.  In front of him was the armor for one of Anubis’ super soldiers.  Looking through it, he found that the only thing missing was the helmet…which he could live without.  Still attached to the gauntlets of the armor were the weapons…that he could definitely use.  Quickly pulling the gear on, Daniel decided to leave off the shoulder armor and put on his vest and its pieces.

Checking through the pockets of his vest, Daniel found that his radio, mini-flashlight, batteries, a few power bars, matches, emergency blanket, and other bits and pieces where all there.  His sidearm holster was empty, but he had other weapons to use at the moment.  In the hidden pocket inside the vest he found his GDO, but he could not find his spare glasses.  Well, he really did not need them anymore…they were actually only plain glass since his return from ascension.

Once he was dressed and inventoried what he could, Daniel exited the way that he had seen Chena flee.  After stepping past the fur covering, Daniel found that he was in a much larger cavern that had several passages going in other directions.  Seeing Chena on the other side of the cavern, Daniel cleared his through to get her attention as he approached her position.

“Chena, thank you once more.”  Daniel said with a smile.  “These clothes fit well and I appreciate it.”

“Chena helps the one that helped her father.”  Chena said without looking at him.  “No need to thank.”

“But I do.”  Daniel said reaching out and turning her to look at him.  “You have saved my life and I can never thank you enough for that.  He said smiling.

Chena gazed into Daniel’s eyes and found her self drowning in them.  She started to reach out to touch his face when her brain kicked back in; she smiled while pulling away thankful that Daniel could not see her blush.

“Where do the other caves go off to?”  Daniel asked into the awkward silence.

Muttering over her shoulder, Chena answered.  “One of them goes out, the other goes down to the source of the grok, another goes back into where you just came from.”

“The grok?  Is that the green stuff you have had me drinking?”  Daniel asked in curiosity.

“Yes.”  Chena said finally turning to look at Daniel.  “It is what made you better from your injuries.”

“Can you show me the source of this, grok?”  Daniel asked, hoping to have found something that will have made this mess worth everything he had gone through.

“Come.”  Chena said as she headed to the cave that would take them to the source of the grok.
