What Comes Of Dreams Chapter 26 Daniel
and Chena tracked across the planet’s desolate surface for Daniel felt like was
forever when they finally reached an area where the air and ground both
appeared to be tinted a reddish color.
Daniel was about to continue walking when Chena grabbed him by the arm
and pulled him back towards her. “This
is where the bad air starts.” Chena
stated with apprehension. Nodding
his head in understanding, Daniel took several deep breaths to fortify his
lungs then slipped the Super Soldier helmet on.
Motioning for Chena to wait, Daniel took several long strides into the
poisonous air and slowly let out the clean air he had been holding up till that
point. Scarred of what would happen, Daniel carefully took several short breaths to see what
would happen when. When the air that
came through the Super Soldier mask only smelt a little like rotten eggs and
tasted like those yellow food cubes of the Asgard, he motioned for Chena to
follow. Keeping
a wary eye out for Jaffa, Super Soldiers, and Goa’uld, Daniel and Chena began
making the trek towards the Stargate that they knew was off in the
distance. Several times along the way, Chena
pulled Daniel towards her as they came into view of what looked like some kind
of Goa’uld device. The first time they
had come across one, Chena had knelt down and picking dirt up off the ground
made what looked like an explosion with the dirt being thrown up and raining
back down. Daniel quickly understood
that they were some sort of mine. By
the time Chena and Daniel where only about an hour out from their destination,
Daniel started to feel sick and his head was starting to hurt. Taking a deep breath and pulling his helmet
off, Daniel quickly took a drink of some of the grok he was carrying and
replaced his helmet. Waiting for a few
minutes, the sickness and headache cleared allowing Daniel and Chena to
continue. Looking
over at Daniel every few minutes, Chena became worried that Daniel would not
make it through to the stone circle.
When he stopped and took off his helmet, she began to panic until she
saw him drink the grok and put the helmet back on. She knew that the grok did a lot of things
and prayed that it would help Daniel to make it. As Daniel stood there waiting for the grok to
take effect, Chena watched in horror as she saw a Super Soldier appear on the
direction they were traveling. She was
now afraid that neither her, nor Daniel would live. Seeing
the sudden look of horror that passed over Chena’s face, Daniel turned to look
in the same direction she was looking.
The sight of a Super Solder walking towards them filled Daniel with
dread. With what seemed like abnormally
quick reflexes, Daniel pushed Chena out of the way a few seconds before twin
energy blasts shattered the ground where she had been standing. Telling her to run for cover, Daniel returned
fire and attempted to draw the Super Soldier away. Chena
ran for cover like Daniel had told her, but lost site of him and the Super
Soldier that had started to run after him.
Her blood ran cold to think that she may never see Daniel alive again. Daniel
ran with unusual speed in the direction he remembered the last mine they had
spotted being. He hoped that he could
figure out a way to lure the Black-clad warrior near enough one of the mines
that he could knock him close to it. Dodging
energy blasts and returning some of his own, Daniel turned around and ran with
all the speed he could muster towards the mine he knew was only a few yards
away. Chena
continued to work her way towards the stone circle hoping that Daniel would make
it back; she slid down behind the thing that controlled the great circle and
waited. Constantly looking this way and
that for enemy, Chena’s worry grew and grew about the safety of Daniel. She was about to head in the last direction
she had seen him when a giant explosion shook the ground and she watched in
horror as off in the distance a giant ball of fire grew. Daniel
stopped, stooping behind some wreckage with the mine only about twenty feet off
to his right as he watched for the Super Soldier. When it came into view, Daniel popped up from
his cover and attempted to shoot several blasts at it. Much to his horror, only one blast came out
while the other weapon did not respond.
Trying to shoot again with the one that had worked, it did nothing. With a sinking feeling, Daniel realized that
the weapons were out of power and that he would have to engage the soldier with
hand-to-hand if he was going to destroy it….he knew that he would not survive,
but at least Chena would be safe. Running
in an arc off to his left and coming at the soldier from that direction, Daniel
weaved and rolled and did everything he could to avoid the energy blasts coming
from the soldier. When he managed to get
within five feet of the creature, he let out a battle cry that would have made
Teal’c proud and charged straight at it.
Upon reaching the soldier, Daniel grabbed the weapons first and yanked
them off the gauntlets, throwing them towards the mine. In the next instant, he felt a rib give as
the soldier punched him in the side and knocked him down. Daniel
was struggling to his feet when the soldier turned and went after his removed
weapons. Getting to his feet, Daniel was
dismayed to see that the soldier was already to the blasters and was stooping
over picking them up only about fifteen feet from the mine. Acting on reflex and without any forethought,
Daniel took off at an inhuman run and did a flying leap-kick right at the
soldier’s exposed backside. The soldier
flew a good six or seven feet as Daniel feel painfully on his already injured
side. The next moment, a loud explosion
and a mighty concussive force sent Daniel flying through the air. The
resulting explosion ignited the air as if it was filled with a flammable gas;
the fireball grew larger and continued to expand outwards at a terrifying
pace. The last thing that Daniel
remembered seeing was the bright orange of the fire and the severe heat as it
engulfed his broken body. Remembering
the symbols that Daniel had shown her, Chena jumped up and quickly pushed the
buttons and then the glowing thing in the center. Fighting against the rising panic in her
heart that was overtaking her mind, Chena looked back to see the fire was fast
approaching where she was. The last
thing Daniel had told her about this was that she had to punch something into
the slim metal thing he had given her.
Quickly pulling it from her bag and punching the numbers, she hoped that
she had gotten it right. Feeling the
heat from the flames licking at her, she jumped into the shimmering pool hoping
that she would live. End Chapter Twenty-Six of This story along with all original characters and situations were created
