What Comes Of Dreams Chapter 36 After
about an hour of walking, Chena caught the smell of something in the air and
bolted in a northerly direction. Daniel
called out after her, but did not seem to get through her instincts which had
taken over. Pouring on some speed, the
group chased after the naďve female Unas.
Without realizing it, Daniel’s superior speed placed him about two
hundred feet further ahead of the rest of the group and the first to break
through group of trees just behind Chena. Seeing
where they had arrived, Daniel sped over to Chena and pulled her back away from
the water. As she looked at Daniel
confused, Daniel took a second to catch his breath and get his emotions back
under control. “Chena,”
Daniel began, “You can’t go near the water over there. It is filled with Goa’uld that are not blended, not inside anyone. This is where they come from.” Daniel
had just finished his statement when the rest of the group arrived, panting
from the exertion of running after him and Chena. “Holy crap, Daniel.”
Jack bellowed between breaths.
“When in the hell did you become such a fast runner? You even left Carter behind in the dust.” “It
must have to do with all of the running we have had to do over the years.” Daniel said shrugging. While
Daniel was looking at the bewildered looks of his friends, he did not notice
that Chena had once again drifted over towards the water’s edge. His enhanced hearing alerted him to rustling
in the water and he turned just in time to catch a glimpse of a symbiote
swimming towards Chena. With lightning
reflexes, Daniel rushed over and yanked Chena back with enough force that it
picked her up off the ground and she landed four feet away. As Daniel had his back to the water, another
Unas charged from the tree-line and knocked Daniel five feet back into the
water. Sam
and the others brought their weapons to bear on enraged Unas while Daniel was
busy standing up from where he had landed.
The water was just up to his chest and he was busy shaking off the
stunning blow he had taken, too busy to realize the danger swimming his
way. “DanielJackson!” Teal’c shouted, “Look out behind you!” Before
Teal’c could bring his staff weapon to fire, everyone watched in horror as a
symbiote flew out of the water and started burrowing into Daniel’s neck. Sam screamed in horror as Daniel frantically
clawed at his neck to keep the symbiote from getting all the way in. Daniel struggled against the symbiote’s attempt to exert control of his body, scarring
his friends as his eyes would flash intermittently while he held his head in
his hands and screamed. “Daniel!” Sam screamed as she started to rush in his
direction, forgetting about anything and anyone else. Thinking
quickly, O’Neill grabbed Carter’s pack to keep her from rushing off into the
Goa’uld infested waters. His heart fell
into his feet seeing the look of loss and fear that were etched on his 2IC’s
face and knowing the cause for it. Being
that Chena was closer, she started walking towards Daniel. “Stop Chena!” Daniel shouted out in his own voice. “Do not come any closer or you will become a
host.” “Chena
must help Daniel.” Chena shouted
back. “Chena is responsible for Daniel
being in trouble.” The
sound of Daniel’s voice and what he was saying shocked the gathered group out
of their scared stupor. They watched in
confusion as Daniel’s eyes continued to flash, but he straightened up and
started walking out of the water towards them.
Daniel had no more gotten to the shore than all weapons swiveled from
the male Unas to him. Raising his hands,
Daniel sunk to his knees. Everyone
watched in shock as Daniel started heaving like he was going to be sick. After several drive heaves, Sam and Jack
closed their eyes and looked away as blood started splattering the ground from
Daniel’s retching. Several seconds
passed when Daniel screamed out, his voice gurgling with the build up of blood
and he bent over again. Teal’c, Ishta,
and Er’ka watched in fascination as Daniel vomited out a symbiote, and then
pitched forward to lie still. Chena
approached the unconscious form of Daniel, stepping warily around the male Unas
that was looking inquisitively at the prone form of Daniel as if he was trying
to figure out what happened. As Chena
got within two feet of where Daniel lay, the male Unas growled a warning for
her to not proceed any further while nodding his head towards the symbiote on
the ground. Ignoring him, Chena
continued until she was able to kneel down next to Daniel and stroked his hair. Not
hearing the retching noise anymore and the growl from the Unas, Sam and Jack
turned to see Chena kneeling down next to Daniel and stroking his hair with a
look of worry on her face. Sam bolted to
Daniel’s side before anyone had another chance to stop her and stomped down
with all of her might on the symbiote that was lying in a puddle of Daniel’s
blood and saliva. Grinding her foot into
the dirt, she grinned with malice at the sound of its bones breaking and the
liquid squish sound that came from its permanent death. Samantha’s
satisfaction at killing the symbiote was quickly replaced with her worry over
Daniel’s condition as she knelt down next to his still body. With tears falling from her eyes, Sam pulled
Daniel into her lap, cradling his head while checking for a pulse. Expecting the worst, Sam was relieved to find
a slow and steady beat below her fingertips.
Smiling, she looked up at the Colonel and the others and nodded her
head. A collective sigh escaped from the
lips of the group and they slowly made there way over to their unconscious
friend. End Chapter Thirty-Six of This story along with all original characters and situations were created
