What Comes Of Dreams Chapter 38 Seeing
that the Unas were not going to attack, Daniel turned to look at his
friends. The looks on their faces of
bewilderment and shock shook him out of his battle mode and he ducked his head
in embarrassment. “Um…sorry about that.”
Daniel said turning slightly pink.
“I had been awake since right before Selmak checked me over, but I was
trying to get my thoughts back in order.
When I heard Chena scream, I just reacted.” “Okaaay.” Jack said with a raised eyebrow. “That does not explain how you were able to
take on an adult male Unas by yourself, or how you healed from the wounds
getting rid of that snake caused, or even how you are not a host now.” Shaking
out of her daze, Sam’s mind started working as fast as lightning, putting the
pieces of the past few days together. As
things started clicking into place, she could only come up with one conclusion. “Holy Hanna!” Sam
exhaled. Everyone’s
attention was captured by the nearly whispered exclamation and they turned to
look at Major Carter for an explanation. “Daniel?”
Sam began. “When you fought that giant symbiote, didn’t you say it pulled you
under the surface for several minutes?” Catching
on to where Sam was headed, Daniel nodded.
“Yeah, I swallowed quite a bit of the stuff that was in the underground
pool it lived in.” “Then
that is it.” Sam said smiling. “The overdose, if you will, of that stuff has
continued to have an affect on your body.
That explains the enhanced reflexes, speed, strength, and healing.” “This,
grok, has made you a most formidable warrior.”
Ishta said starring at Daniel. “Indeed.” Teal’c responded. “It has given you the edge that I have long
hoped we could find in our fight against the Goa’uld.” “But,
are these changes permanent or only short term?” Daniel asked with growing concern. “What other changes has it done to me?” “Well,
I say we worry about that till we get back to base.” O’Neill interrupted. “For now, what is going on with these Unas?” Taking
a quick look back over his shoulder, Daniel could see that the Unas were still
waiting to be told what to do and he knew that he would have to be the one to
do so. “The
Unas are waiting on me.” Daniel said
looking uncomfortable. “What
do you mean, waiting on you?” Jack asked
in his usual irritated voice. “Daniel
has defeated their leader.” Er’ka
responded nodding at the unconscious Unas on the ground. “Wait,
are you telling me they think that you are their new leader?” Jack asked incredulously. “By
the rules of their society, anyone that fights and defeats the current leader
becomes leader.” Daniel explained with
irritation. “Remember when we first met
Chaka?” “Well,
you just tell them to find someone else to lead them.” Jack ordered.
“You already have a job.” Ignoring
Jack’s comments, Daniel slowly approached the prostrated Unas and started
speaking to them in their language.
After several minutes of Daniel and the Unas speaking back and forth,
Daniel stepped back to his friends looking troubled. “I
take it that that did not go so well?”
Jack asked with a nod at the Unas pack. “No,
it did not.” Daniel huffed. “They say I won leadership fairly and I am
the new leader regardless.” Seeing
the distress that Daniel was in over the situation. Chena gathered herself up and approached the
other Unas. Forcing herself to speak in
her native language, Chena introduced herself to the pack and told them who her
father was. Upon hearing Chaka’s name,
what appeared to be the oldest of the Unas in the pack slowly approached Chena
and hesitantly touched her left arm.
After several seconds of examining Chena, the old Unas started speaking
quickly with the others. After
several minutes of listening to the conversation, Daniel began to smile. Seeing the change come over Daniel, Sam
walked up to him with a questioning look in her eyes. Looking over at Chena and then back at Sam,
he pulled Sam into a big hug and nuzzled her neck with his nose. “They
have accepted Chena as their new leader because she is Chaka’s daughter.” Daniel said grinning. “This is Chaka’s tribe and the other Unas on
the ground never defeated him in battle, so he wasn’t really the leader.” “Well,
that is a good thing if you ask me.”
Jack piped in. “Indeed.” Teal’c said with a bow. After
several moments of Chena and the pack speaking amongst them selves, the Unas
pack disappeared back into the woods and Chena came back over to the group. “Thank
you Daniel.” Chena said mimicking one of
Teal’c’s bows. “The family of my
father’s is now mine. It is a dream come
true.” After
briefly hugging Daniel, Chena disappeared after the Unas Pack. “I
guess that is our clue to leave.” Jack
smirked. “Then,
I believe that we should depart as soon as possible.” Teal’c spoke in his baritone. “I do not particularly like this place.” Everyone
nodded in assent and started walking in the direction of the gate. Before anyone could even register that Daniel
had moved, Daniel yanked out his zat and set it for
overload. Throwing it into the water as
far as he could without overshooting, Daniel yelled out for everyone to hit the
deck. The ensuing discharge from the zat blasted water up into the air and it came down like
rain, drenching everyone. As
the group got back on their feet, they saw the bodies of symbiotes all over the
ground and more floating in the water.
With astonished looks on their faces, everyone turned to look at Daniel
only to seem him nod his head in satisfaction and resume walking to the gate. Shrugging for the time being, everyone else
followed in his wake except for Sam, who caught up to Daniel’s side and
silently laced his fingers with her own. End Chapter Thirty-Eight of This story along with all original characters and situations were created
