Chapter 39

The group trudged on in silence for some time until they were only a short distance from the gate.  As the gate came into view, Daniel and Sam stopped short and nearly had the rest of the troop collide into their backs.

“What’s the hold up?”  Jacob called out in frustration.

Uhm, that would be that.”  Daniel said pointing to the two glowing orbs floating in front of the gate.

As the group positioned themselves to see what Daniel was talking about, the two orbs drifted in front of them until they were but a few feet away.  The orbs elongated and started taking on human shape as their light brightened.  As the light cleared, Daniel stood speechless at seeing Oma and Shifu in front of them.

“Hello Daniel.”  Oma said with a loving smile.  “I see that you have finally gained the courage to be with the one you gave up ascension for.”

As Daniel looked down in embarrassment, Sam gapped between him and Oma at while she processed what she had just heard.

“You should be very happy with Daniel.”  Shifu began.  “It was often hard for Oma to drag Daniel away from you during his time amongst us, unlike what you believe.”

“Not to be a pessimist, but you two aren’t here to take Daniel away again are yall?”  Jack asked in annoyance.

“No Colonel O’Neill.”  Oma spoke as if talking to a child.  “We came to merely lay to rest a few of the questions that are on all of your minds.”

“Of which questions do you bring the answers to?”  Teal’c asked.

Looking around at the confused, concerned, and defensive group in front of them, Oma and Shifu glanced at one another for a few moments.

“There is a question as to what occurred with Samantha when she disappeared from the infirmary when she was being held after Jolinar resurfaced.”  Shifu spoke.  “That was our doing so that we could right a wrong.”

“What wrong did you righten?”  Jack asked belligerently.

“The Tok’ra have fought long and hard against a force of evil for a long time.”  Shifu continued unfazed by Jack.  “Their numbers have become nearly extinct and they have not a queen to repopulate.”

“That is well known amongst the Tok’ra and the Tau’ri.”  Teal’c spoke.  “But, how are you and OmaDeSala correcting this problem?”

“During the time that we took Samantha and Jolinar, we altered Jolinar to be a queen.”  Shifu said smiling at the group.

Sam, Daniel, and Jacob were busy doing an imitation of a fish, while Jack just looked on.  Taking a few minutes to process what they had been told, it was Jolinar that spoke first.

“You changed me into a queen?”  Jolinar asked in disbelief using Sam’s voice.  “I am to be the one to bring about more Tok’ra?”

“Yes, you are to be the new queen to the Tok’ra, with Daniel being your mate.”  Oma replied with a grin.

“As for another question, the one concerning what is happening to Daniel.”  Shifu picked up the conversation.

“The effects of the substance that Daniel ingested are permanent.”  Oma picked up the thread.  “There was a residual gene that was left behind from his time amongst us and this substance activated it.  The abilities he had demonstrated are what he shall have, similar to being a host without having a symbiote.”

“But isn’t this breaking the rules of the others in not interfering?”  Daniel asked regaining his power of speech.

“It is not.”  Oma said knowing Daniel would ask this.  “The others decided it is correcting an oversight.”

“What about Daniel?”  Jack asked.  “Did y’all have anything to do with this thing that has happened to him?”

“No.”  Shifu stated with a grin.  “What happened to Daniel happened without our guidance, though we were preparing to correct an oversight on his behalf.”

            “Sweet!”  Jack exclaimed.

“Will the grok have the same effects on others?”  Sam asked kicking into scientist mode.

“The substance you call “grok” will only heal others of your kind.”  Shifu responded.  “It will not have the effects on anyone else as it did on Daniel.”

“Bummer.”  Jack frowned.  “It would be great to be able to not be taken as a host like Daniel was able to avoid.”

“It was not because of the “grok” that Daniel was not taken as a host.”  Oma replied with a huge smile.  “That was because of him having been ascended and descended.  His genetics are not the same as a symbiote can use.”

“So, no more worrying about Daniel being snaked.”  Jack replied.  “That is nice to know with as much as he likes to play with the Goa’uld.”

“We must go, our time to be amongst you has lapsed.”  Shifu said bowing.

“Will we see you again?”  Daniel asked looking at Oma and Shifu.

“Winding rivers often cross one another on the path towards the great sea.”  Oma responded as she and Shifu turned back into balls of light and hurled into the sky.

Shaking himself out of his awe, Jack looked over at the way Daniel and Sam were holding one another and smiled.  Today was more than a good day, it was a great day!

“Daniel!”  Jack barked demanding the archeologist’s attention.  “Dial us home.”

Releasing his hold on Sam’s hands and breaking away from her, Daniel walked over to the DHD and began punching in the sequence for Earth.

“Man, is there going to be one hell of a party when the Tok’ra find out about this!”  Jacob said with a huge smile while the group descended the ramp.

Reaching the bottom of the ramp, General Hammond scanned over the group and spoke with a relieved voice.  “I see that you are minus one member of your expedition, Colonel.  I take it that everything worked out?”

“Yes sir.”  Jack responded with a blinding grin.  “We have one heck of a debriefing for you.”

“All right people.”  Hammond said while thinking that things are always interesting with SG1.  “Report to the infirmary for your post-mission and I will see you all in the briefing room in one hour.”
