Chapter Two

Sitting in the mess hall, the other members of SG-1 were sitting down while eating and discussing the situation about Daniel. “Yeah Sam, he had just puking when I came into his room. The place smells to high-heaven of sour alcohol.”, Jack commented. “I understand that he is hurting, is was much better for him when his memories were gone.” “I agree with O’Neill.”, Teal’c remarked. “He may not have been the DanielJackson that we all knew, but he was not in as much anguish as he seems to be now. Would it not have been better for him to never get those memories back?” Looking at her friends, Sam shook her head. “T, Daniel was scarred and confused without his memories. You do not understand how he felt about not knowing what was going on.

When the klaxons began to go off, SG-1 jumped up and started running for the elevator that would take them to the floor with the gate-room. “What the hell is going on?”, Sam yelled, “where is Kile’s announcement about why the gate is active?” Just as they reached the elevator doors, the power went out and the emergency lights came on. “Head for the stairs, we have to find out what has happened!”, Jack yelled. Upon exiting the stairwell, after having descended several floors, SG-1 came to a halt at a sealed security door where several Marines where trying to get it open. “What is going on Sergeant?”, Jack asked. “Well sir, it seems that someone has sealed the doors and nobody in gate-control is responding to either radio or phone.”, responded the Marine Sergeant. “Just freaking lovely,” grumbled Jack, “Carter, get this door open now would you?” With a nod, Sam stepped over the to door override panel and entered the code to activate the emergency door release. With the help of Teal’c, the Marines were able to push the door open wide enough that everyone was able to slip inside.

Upon reaching the gate-control room, Sam rushed over the still unconscious body on the floor. “Sir, it is Kile and he is out cold.”, Sam said in a relieved voice. Getting up to use the computer to unlock all the doors Sam frowned. “Sir, it looks like whoever did this activated the computer’s emergency memory wipe routine. The good news is that part of the routine automatically closes the iris, the bad news is that we have no way of knowing who did this or why.” Looking over at the gate-control computer, Sam’s eyes fell upon a golden amulet on the floor. Stooping to pick it up she gasped.

What did you find SamanthaCarter?”, Teal’c asked. Holding up the amulet, Jack let out a hiss. “That is Daniel’s amulet, he is the one that did this.” Picking up the phone, Jack gave orders for the base to be sealed and for all SF to search for Daniel Jackson. “Carter, get the power restored and see if you can find out where he went.”, Jack ordered. “Sir, I can’t. The erase routine was specifically designed to wipe the computer core completely. We have no way of finding out where he went.”, Sam replied. “I can get the power back on, but all gate access logs and addresses have been erased. We will have to restore the gate addresses from backup tape, but they will be at least 2 days old.” “Well hell.”, Jack fumed. “See what you can do. I am going to go call General Hammond and let him know what has happened.” With that, Jack turned around and headed through the door into Hammond’s office to use the secure-line.

Looking at Sam, Teal’c walked over to stand closer to her. “Why would DanielJackson take this course of action, SamanthaCarter. It is not like him to do something of this nature.” “I don’t know T. I am afraid that Daniel may not be the person that he once was. Maybe getting his memories back were too much for him to handle right now.”, Sam softly replied. Sam picked up the phone and called for a med team to come to gate-control. Whispering to herself, “What has happened to you Daniel, where have you gone?

Having finally reached the ruins, Daniel entered the only structure that still stood. It was dark inside, but it would afford him protection from the blast that was only minutes away. Turning on his flashlight, Daniel looked at his surroundings. “I guess I will set up my stuff over in that empty spot by those pillars.”, he mused to himself. He hadn’t even made it a few steps when the whole place was rocked from the force of the explosion that decimated the Stargate and the DHD. He was not even aware of why had chosen this place, only that something in his mind had told him it would be safe and that nobody would look for him here. That thought had just barely crossed his mind when a large chunk of marble fell from the ceiling and impacted is head. The last thing that Dr. Daniel Jackson saw was the image of an angel standing hand-in-hand with a demon on the wall as he fell to the ground and darkness swallowed him.
