Chapter Nine

As soon as the Prometheus reached orbit around Alpha site, SG-1 ringed down to the planet and crossed through the Stargate for the SGC on earth. As they walked down the ramp, General Hammond and Selmak met them. “Welcome home SG-1, sorry to cut your trip short, but there are things that we need to discuss. Seeing as you never made it to a foreign world, let us proceed up to the conference room shall we.”, spoke General Hammond. “I apologize for the way things were done, but it was imperative that we do this.”, remarked Selmak. With nothing more than a nod, SG-1 followed General Hammond and Selmak up to the conference room.

Once everyone was seated around the conference table, General Hammond motioned for Selmak to begin. “We have been in contact with one of our agents that has been living in the palace on Anubis’ home world. It seems that shortly after his destruction, two Goa’uld females laid claim to his holdings without force. The two Goa’uld women were using the hosts of Sha’re and of Sarah, both of whom you know, but are going by the names of Isis and Omanet”, stated Selmak. Immediately upon uttering Sha’re and Sarah’s names, Sam’s mouth dropped open and Jack said, “Of course, just when we lose Daniel…we find them, why couldn’t you tell us about them before now if you knew?”. Selmak continued where he left off, with a slight smirk on his face, “It seems that several months ago, someone came through the Stargate on this planet that sent the two Goa’uld inhabiting these hosts into quite a frenzy of action. Up until this point neither of the Goa’uld behaved much like normal Goa’uld. In fact, they had stopped treating people as slaves and set up a feudal cast system of government.” Holding up his hand he forestalled whatever Sam was about to say. Continuing on, Selmak said, “This new arrival did not change their behavior towards the people, but instead of directing their attentions outward, they turned them inward and into much seclusion with much security around one room of the palace in particular…Anubis’ private chambers. None of this had really been much of a concern until just about 20 hours ago, when we found out who the mysterious guest was. It is Daniel!”

Looking at the stunned expression on the faces of Major Carter and Colonel O’Neill was priceless as far as General Hammond and Selmak was concerned. It was Teal’c that spoke up first, “If we are to understand this correctly, somehow DanielJackson managed to travel back in time to a point several months before he left? Are you sure that this is “our” DanielJackson and not another or an imposter?” With a smile General Hammond took up the narrative, “Yes Teal’c, we have confirmed through proof offered by the Tok’ra agent that it is in fact “our” Dr. Jackson. The agent sent us pictures of the destroyed Stargate, and of all of the contents of the pack that Dr. Jackson took with him. Plus we have received recordings of some of a conversation between him and the Goa’uld.” With that, General Hammond pressed enter on the keyboard near his chair. On the wall behind him was displayed everything that Daniel had taken with him, and some personal items that were missing from his room. It was the voice recordings that shocked them the most after they finished listening to it.

“From what we can tell from the recording, the explanation of events seems like the only thing that could have happened. And from the way the Goa’uld keep changing between voices, it would seem that they have gone the way of the Tok’ra.”, stated Selmak.

“Could this be some kind of trick dad?”, asked Sam.

“We do not think so Sam. After having been with Selmak for so long, and talking with other Tok’ra that have been joined longer, it is impossible to impersonate the host as the symbiote.”, answered Jacob Carter.

“If this is true, then it is something I have never heard of in the history of the Goa’uld.”, Teal’c stated.

“You are correct Teal’c, it is quite unprecedented. But wait, there is yet more for you to hear.”, said Selmak. “Only minutes ago we received word from our agent that a very ancient ceremony dating back millennia was conducted. In this ceremony many artifacts, which are only used in a single rite, and were only rumored to exist were brought out into the open and utilized. The rite is one used to bind being to being, in body, soul, and mind.”

It was Teal’c that gasped, “This rite is one so deeply buried that that only Goa’uld to have ever attempted it was destroyed. The host remained, but was different. That Goa’uld’s personal guard rose up and destroyed the host out of fear and then destroyed themselves and all around them out of loss of honor in not protecting their “god”. It was agreed upon by all Goa’uld that the world this occurred on would be forever off limits and that this rite would never be performed as it was too dangerous.”

“So, who cares if a bunch of Goa’uld kill themselves? We can we live to get Daniel?”, Jack demanded.

“The Goa’uld in question did not die in this instance. The rite to bind went as it should and the Goa’uld still live. Further, in this instance we had two Goa’uld bound to a single Tau’ri. It seems that Daniel is now bound as Consort to both Isis and Omanet.”, smirked Selmak.

“Oh god dad, how could this happen. Never have two Goa’uld willingly shared anything. We all know that Isis is dead and that it is Osiris in Sarah’s body. Can this binding be broken?”, Sam inquired.

General Hammond was first to respond, “I did some checking on this Isis issue. It seems that the N.I.D. replaced the urn that Isis was in with a fake urn and a dead Jaffa symbiote. We found it in some of their records that were left in Area 51 when they fled. From what we have been able to piece together, one of their people did in fact get infested with Isis, who then managed to flee through the Stargate there. So, Isis is alive as far as we know.”

“How or when the switch in host took place, we do not know. From what we can surmise, especially given what we have recently learned, both Goa’uld where in a binding alliance with one another. They partook of an ancient Goa’uld ritual, which involves the feasting upon that of a fully matured Goa’uld symbiote. We can only hope that it was Osiris they feasted upon. We are not 100% certain, but from everything we have in our archives, the binding can not be undone without killing those bound.”, Selmak stated. “The good news is that Dr. Jackson can come to no harm if the binding is in fact working. For if he does, they will suffer as he does. If he dies, they also die.”

“Okay, this is all well and good. A fabulous story and all, but my question still did not get answered. When do we go get Daniel back!”, shouted Jack.

“For now, Colonel, you sit and wait!”, ordered General Hammond. “I know that you want to go get your teammate and friend back, but there is more going on here. We need to find out what the situation is there before you storm in and rescue him. We do not know yet if this “binding” will cause him to die if he is removed from their presence. We do not even know if he is still Dr. Jackson.”

“As we speak, we have everyone available pouring through all of the ancient knowledge we possess. They are looking for the answers to the statements that General Hammond just made, and more. With what just happened, trying to get to Daniel will be as dangerous as trying to get to Isis or Omanet. For now, they consider him as a Lord by the command of their “gods” and by the rite they witnesses. As soon as we know something, from our agent there and from our researchers, we will figure out what course of action to take.”, stated Selmak.

“In the mean time, SG-1 is off rotation. Major Carter, I believe that you requested some leave time to visit with your dad. Teal’c, you requested time to go see your son on Chu’lak. As of this moment, both requests are granted. Colonel O’Neill, we have received word that your “son” would like a visit from you. He is in Hawaii, your plane leaves in 2 hours. We will contact you as soon as we have information. You are all dismissed.”, ordered General Hammond. With that, General Hammond returned to his office with the door shutting behind him.

Teal’c stood and with a slight bow to his teammates, he headed to his room to change into his Jaffa uniform. Jack shrugged his shoulders at Sam and stomped off towards his room to ready his gear and change his clothes to civilian attire. Sam walked over to her dad and looked at him as if wanting more information. To this, Jacob Carter only shrugged and took his daughter’s hand. Passing by Kile on their way downstairs, Kile began the dialing sequence for the current Tok’ra home world. The gate was open by the time Sam and Selmak/Jacob Carter reached the ramp. With a quick wave to Kile, Sam followed her dad through the event horizon.
