Chapter Twelve

Handing the devices back to her dad, Sam sat stunned and relieved at the same time. Daniel was alive and sounded okay. He had been able to contact them. But, there was something that she just could not put her finger on. Did he say that he had some things to take care of? What had happened between Daniel and Jack that Daniel was apologizing for? Well, she did not really have a lot of time to ponder it. She needed to gate back to the SGC and get a hold of Jack and Teal’c to give them the news.

“Dad, mind if I return to the SGC now, and if you came with me? Daniel wants me to let the rest of the team know that he is all right, and he said that he would be back in touch through the Tok’ra devices. If you come with me, we can still visit, and you would be able to find out what is going on when we do.”, Sam said looking at her father.

“Selmak and I agree to go, Sam. Even the report that Le’at gave was cryptic. He refused to have an extraction at this time saying that more was going on than anyone thought. We will return with you to the SGC and wait for them to contact us.”, Jacob Carter responded.

A few minutes later, Sam and Jacob Carter were walking down the ramp at the SGC on Earth. Waiting for them at the foot of the ramp were Jack and General Hammond with looks of puzzlement on their faces. “That was a quick visit Sam, what is up?”, Jack asked.

Sam was the first to speak, “We heard from Daniel, through the Tok’ra spy’s communicator. It appears that he is okay and is safe. He wanted me to come back and let everyone know, and he wanted me to extend his apology to you, Jack, for the way he acted with you recently.”

With a bit of relief to find out that Dr. Jackson was safe, General Hammond spoke up, “I think that maybe we should get word to Teal’c that we have heard from Dr. Jackson, and maybe go to the conference room so that you both can tell us what all you have found out and about the conversation.”

With nods all around, everyone headed up to the conference room. Having overheard the conversation from his seat in the control room, Kile was already relaying the message to Teal’c about word having come from Dr. Jackson. It was only about fifteen minutes later when Teal’c walked into the conference room, still clad in his Jaffa armor. “Hey Teal’c, we see that you got the message about Daniel.”, Jack said.

“Indeed I did. It would seem that once again fortune has smiled up on that Dr. Jackson is still alive.”, Teal’c responded.

After Teal’c had taken a seat at the table, Sam and Selmak relayed what they had found out from the Tok’ra spy’s report and from the discussion with Daniel. “It is most interesting that DanielJackson referred to the Goa’uld by their host names and not their Goa’uld names. It would seem that the rite destroyed the Goa’uld as was fabled to have happened so long ago.”, Teal’c commented.

“I don’t know about that T,” Sam said, “if the Goa’uld had been killed during the rite and in front of so many, wouldn’t the Jaffa and the others there turn on the hosts and Daniel and just kill them? That is what happened in the tale about the first time it happened, isn’t it?”

“You are most correct SamanthaCarter. Maybe something else has happened that forced the symbiote to have less of a hold over the host. Maybe these arrangements that DanielJackson has to make are finding a way to get off the planet without raising suspicion.”, Teal’c offered.

“Look, I do not want to rain on anyone’s parade, but we know little more now than we did earlier.”, Jack huffed. “All we know for certain is that Daniel made contact with the spy and now we know he is alive and not hurt. Were you able to find out anything more about this ceremony thing he went through with those two Goa’uld, Jacob?”

“For the short amount of time that we were back there, we came up with no new information. I assure you that my people are still working on it, Jack. Unfortunately, there is not a lot of information on this particular rite and what it entails and what it does.”, Jacob Carter quipped.

“May I suggest that we see if there is a gate anywhere near the planet that Dr. Jackson is on. If we can locate one that is closer, we can have the Prometheus head that way and it will not take as long for you all to be able to get to him when the time is right. It sounds like all we can do at the moment is wait for Dr. Jackson or the Tok’ra spy to contact us again.”, stated General Hammond.

“Yes sir, I will get to work to find out right away. As soon as I can locate a gate in that sector I will let you know, sir.”, Major Cater responded. She then got up and headed down to her lab to find the information they sought.

“General Hammond, may I suggest that we contact the Asgard and ask them if they have any information on that area around the coordinates for the planet. They have explored extensively and may be able to tell us something quicker.”, Teal’c stated.

“Good idea son, I will have Kile send out the communication. Let us hope that they have more information for us than what we currently have between the Tok’ra and us.”, said General Hammond.

“I will go help Sam with her research while we wait.”, said Jacob Carter.

“Colonel O’Neill, why don’t you and Teal’c find something to make yourselves busy,” ordered General Hammond, “there is not much else that can be done at the moment.”

That being said, everyone left the conference room.

“How was your visit with your son, T?”, Jack inquired.

“I was most enjoyable. We were able to get in several rounds of self-defense practice. Rya’c is becoming a formidable opponent. It will not be long before he is ready to lead his own men into battle.”, Teal’c said with pride. “What about your visit with your “son”, O’Neill?”

“I did not go, I called him on the phone and found out he only wanted to hang out on the beach. I told him that Daniel was having problems and he said he understood.”, Jack stated. “Why don’t you go change and then we will head to the gym to workout. I am not much for just sitting around doing nothing.”

“Indeed.”, Teal’c commented.

Teal’c and Jack headed to Teal’c’s quarters for Teal’c to change, and then went to the gym to workout.
