Chapter Fourteen

With everyone gone and being wound up by what was about to transpire, Daniel started pacing around the room. It was on about his third cycle around when he noticed something odd about the floor. On every tile that Daniel walked on he could see ancient Egyptian glyphs, but on one particular tile there was a second glyph, this one in Ancient. He didn’t understand how or why, but he new that the symbol meant, hidden or secret. Bending down to take a closer look at the tile and symbol, Daniel could not see anything else that would indicate something was amiss. When he ran his finger over the symbol, a slight glow appeared on the symbol for a second and what felt like a static shock touched his fingers. Daniel watched in amazement as the bed, which he had slept in, was lifted into the ceiling to reveal what looked like a transport ring area.

Overwhelmed with curiosity, Daniel stepped into the ring pad, never hearing the pleadings to stop that came from both Sha’re and Sarah when they ran into the room. In a blinding flash of light, Daniel found himself in a dark room that echoed loudly. Stepping off the ring platform, Daniel found that the lights came on to reveal an extremely large laboratory. Judging from the distance between walls and to the ceiling, he would have to estimate this place to be the size of a hangar big enough for two Goa’uld motherships. Walking slowly, he saw all manner of devices on workbenches in various stages of being dissected or assembled, he couldn’t be sure. As he turned around what he thought was a corner, his heart stopped and he found himself falling backwards in fright. There in front of him were about at least six cryogenic tubes with Kull warriors in them. As he slowly back away from them, Daniel’s back came into contact with more metal objects. Turning around, Daniel again found himself falling backwards with fear. Before him was not one, but six Anubises.

Regaining his composure, Daniel realized that if these, things, were in fact, Anubis, he would most assuredly already be dead. Taking a closer look, Daniel realized that these were not bodies, but something more akin to suits of clothes. How funny, he just stumbled onto Anubis’ secret wardrobe…he had to laugh at himself. Walking around the lab more, the things Daniel saw he knew without a doubt would make Sam go crazy. As he reached the back half of the lab area, he came across what looked like a tarp covering a conical object. Carefully pulling the tarp, Daniel revealed a solid black pyramid that looked a lot like a Pyramid ship. As he continued to circle around the ship, he noticed at one area what looked like a sealed door. Walking up closer, Daniel noticed symbols in Ancient arranged like a combination lock in three rows by three columns. Just out of instinct, he touched the first and second symbol on the top row, the first symbol on the second row, and the second and third symbol on the third row. As he depressed the last symbol, a hiss escaped from the door and it slid open to reveal a cockpit.

Stepping inside, Daniel found that there was only enough room for a single person. Looking around, there was a “captain’s chair” to sit in and a lot of buttons. Directly in front of the chair was a console, much like the ones they always find on Goa’uld craft. As Daniel sat in the chair, the console came to life and was covered in more symbols in Ancient. Instinctively he knew what each symbol meant. There were symbols for thrust, hyper-drive, weapons, environment, and everything else that was needed to pilot a ship…just like Goa’uld spacecraft. Standing back up, the console once again went dead, and Daniel walked back out of the hatch. Finishing walking around the periphery of the lab, Daniel found more devices in different stages. As he came closer to where the Kull warriors where in stasis; Daniel recognized Kull warrior armor that seemed to be designed for Jaffa, an entire army of Jaffa. After inspecting the armor carefully, he determined that the armor was to be worn by a living humanoid and not the unliving constructs. Taking his time, Daniel put a single set of the gear on and discovered that the helmet rose out of the armor like other Jaffa armor, but was like that of the Kull warriors.

All of a sudden, the pressure of the screaming in his head broke through his curiosity and Daniel realized that Sha’re and Sarah were scared to death for him. A quick thought back to them that he was okay and reassurances that he was returning now was all that was needed to still the pressure. After making sure that the helmet “turned off”, Daniel headed back towards the exit, taking time to grab one of Anubis’ “suits”. With only a second for a backward glance, Daniel stepped onto the ring pad and with a flash of light he was back in his chambers. Not even noticing what he was wearing, two very worried women ran up to hug him and kiss him. After they calmed down, Daniel led them away from the ring pad and the bed automatically lowered back down.

Being reassured that Daniel was okay, it was Sha’re who first noticed what he was wearing. “Dan’yel, where did you get that armor, and what are you carrying?”, Sha’re asked. Stepping back from him, Sarah accidentally hit the button that activated the helmet. With a gasp, Sha ‘re and Sarah both took several steps back away from Daniel. Daniel quickly held one hand up towards them and used the other to deactivate the helmet. “I found this in a lab, that is where the rings took me. It looks like it is designed for Jaffa to wear, based on the Kull warrior armor design. I also found this.”, Daniel Said holding up the Anubis “suit”. With gasps, both women took in what appeared to be Anubis. “It seems that Anubis had some specially designed suits for himself, although I have not examined them close enough to know why. I also found six Kull warriors in stasis back where I found this stuff. Not to mention, I found Anubis’ private craft!”, Daniel exclaimed.

“Six Kull warriors you say, that would be the one’s we could not locate. They must be destroyed at once Dan’yel!”, Sha’re shouted. “As well as those “suits” of Anubis. But, they are your findings from your chambers, so it is your decision Beloved.”

“I agree with Sha’re, those Kull must be destroyed with much haste. Only two of them nearly wiped out a squad of our best Jaffa.”, Sarah pronounced.

“I agree, the Anubis “suits” and the Kull must be destroyed.”, Daniel said nodding. With a sudden flash of inspiration, Daniel raced forward with an idea. “What if we offer the new armor to your Jaffa as a reward to work for you? This could help win them over when Teal’c talks to them. On top of that, we could offer to remove the symbiote from them and heal them so that they would be free of the parasite.”, Daniel said smiling.

“That is an excellent idea, Beloved. If they are free to do as they choose, and are better equipped than any other Jaffa belonging to Goa’uld, they may well choice to work with us of their own will. But, we do not give the armor over to them until they vow to stay with us.”, Sha’re stated. “Oh Dan’yel, you scarred us so badly when we saw the image of the ring pad in your chambers through your mind. We did not know what had befallen you. Please, Beloved, do be a bit more cautious in the future. You must not think of just yourself, but of us as well. Should you become hurt and die, so do we.”, Sha’re pleaded.

“I know that new discoveries have always driven caution out of your mind, Daniel. But, we are also at stake now.”, Sarah said.

About that time Le’at entered the room and stopped dead in his tracks. Standing in front of the bed appeared to be a Kull warrior. With the initial shock wearing off, Le’at saw that it was Daniel wearing Kull-styled Jaffa armor. “Where did you get that?”, Le’at exclaimed in surprise.

For the look on Le’at’s face alone, Daniel thought, helmet, in Goa’uld and was rewarded when the helmet formed over his head. The bugged out eyes that were suddenly on Le’at’s face had Daniel rolling on the floor laughing. Both Sha’re and Sarah hid their giggles behind their hands at the site of shock and surprise on Le’at’s face, and the antics of Daniel rolling around on the floor. It took several minutes for Daniel to compose himself enough to get the helmet to lower, and several more minutes before Le’at would even speak to him. After everyone had cooled down, Daniel explained what had transpired over the last hour or so. When Daniel had finished his tale, it was Le’at that started laughing. “I think I would have loved to see the look on your face when you thought you came face-to-face with Anubis. That serves you right for what you just did to me!”, Le’at snickered.

“Well, if it was anything like the look on your face when my helmet closed, I would have to agree.”, Daniel harrumphed.

“I think it is time to contact your friends Dan’yel, now that you are through scaring everyone out of their minds.”, Sha’re grumbled.

“Yes, you are right my Beloved. I will stop playing around now and will call in the cavalry. Maybe we can scare them, on second thought…that would probably just get me killed!”, Daniel laughed. “Okay, Le’at…you are on. Call Selmak if you do not mind. It is time to get this show on the road.”

“Hey, let’s not destroy the Anubis suits. I mean, we might be able to use them to our advantage when going up against other Goa’uld. Not all of them know Anubis is no more, we are not even certain on that. All we do know is that nobody has seen him for a long time, and he just seems to have walked away from all of his holdings.”, Sarah surmised.

“I will go along with that, but those Kull still need to be destroyed as soon as possible.”, Sha’re demanded.

As soon as everyone was still and quiet, Le’at used his communicator to contact Selmak and relayed the current plan and the gate coordinates for Teal’c and the rest of SG-1 to use, it seemed that even Selmak was coming along for this trip.
