Chapter Eighteen

It was nearly noon before everyone gathered in the main dining hall to eat. Nobody had seemed to mind that they were getting a late start. Daniel couldn’t help but notice that every time Jack and Sam looked at one another, they would blush. Had something occurred between them last night? The only think Daniel could say to that was, “ABOUT FREAKING TIME!”

As that thought echoed through his head, Sha’re and Sarah’s heads popped up and looked at him, then down the table towards Sam and Jack. With knowing grins, both women turned their faces down and continued eating. Seeing all of the amusing glances shooting around the table, Jacob, Le’at, and Teal’c chose to ignore it behind their stoic expressions.

Once lunch had been eaten, conversation turned to more serious topics. “Jack and I contacted the SGC last night to report in and found out that General Hammond had dispatched the Prometheus right after we gated. It seems that they had already managed to swap in the new hyper-drive system and should be here in a few hours.”, Sam reported. “As soon as they arrive, I would like to get in that lab and start crating up the stuff I will be allowed to take back.

Sha’re and I have already been thinking on this,” Sarah began, “and we feel that the only thing we want to keep out of there is the armor for our Jaffa. The Tok’kra can have a suit to take with them, and Teal’c can keep the one he already wears. Which I must add, is very striking with your build Teal’c.

Thank you, SarahGardner and Sha’re!”, Teal’c said inclining his head towards the two women.

Yes, we must thank you as well.”, Selmak said, also bowing his head.

If it is as big as Dan’yel describes, we will empty it out completely and then use it for food stores so that our people will have a stockpile for hard times.”, Sha’re said.

That is an excellent idea.”, Daniel stated. “I will show yall how to activate the ring transporter and go over there to look around while we wait for the Prometheus to show. We could use the time to start bring the armor for the Jaffa back and begin passing it out.

Sounds like a plan to me!”, Jack said standing up.

Upon entering his chambers, Daniel showed everyone the tile and the symbol that was different from that of the others in the room. “Now, trace the symbol with your finger and you should see it glow like so.

As everyone watched, the symbol that Daniel had just ran his finger over glowed a shining gold for a few seconds, and then the bed began to rise. The first group of four stepped onto the ring pad and vanished in a flash of light. The second group of four waited for a minute and then stepped onto the pad as well, they too vanished in a flash of light.

Once they found that they were in the new location, the first group quickly walked a little ways from the ring pad. Within a minute, the second group arrived and the whole party was back together again. “While yall look around,” Daniel stared, “I just remembered that I left that ship hovering above the Great Hall. I am going to get it and bring it back here.” With that, Daniel once again pressed the button for “Transport” on the controller strapped to his arm and disappeared in a flash of light.

I gotta get me one of those.”, Jack said with awe.

As everyone started walking off to their left, they came across the remains of the Kull Warriors. Taking out his zat, Le’at fired on the bodies three times and vaporized them. “I detest those things.”, Le’at said shrugging. Then the group continued to walk around looking at everything while they waited for Daniel to return.

Once he as back on the little black pyramid ship, Daniel sat down in the chair and replaced the controller on his arm. Once the controller as back in its slot, the ship console came alive and Daniel headed back towards lab. He was almost there when the ship’s sensors detected an An’Kesh in orbit around the planet. With the id of the transponder from the An’Kesh, Daniel realized that it was not a friendly…it was one of Apophis’. Using the radio Sam had given him he keyed up the mic. “Sam, this is Daniel, come in please!”, Daniel yelled into the radio.

Back in the lab everyone jerked when they heard Daniel’s voice shout over the radio. “Daniel, this is Sam, what is wrong?”, Sam said with worry.

Before he could even answer, Sha’re and Sarah whispered, “Apophis,” and took off running to the ring pad. Having not heard them, but seeing them running to the ring pad, the rest of the group followed. They were just reaching the ring pad when Daniel’s voice came back over the radio. “An An’Kesh belonging to Apophis just arrived in orbit. Call the Prometheus and warn them. Ask Sha’re and Sarah to get one or more of their ships here quick. I am on my way to slow them down.”, Daniel reported.

Son of a bitch, why can’t things ever stay calm!”, Jack growled.

Daniel, we are already headed back to the castle. Sha’re and Sarah must have picked up your thoughts and started running. Don’t be crazy; that little ship you are in is no match for an An’Kesh. We will radio the Prometheus and find out how close they are.”, Sam shouted.

By the time the rest of the group reached the ring pad, Sha’re and Sarah had already gone through. When they appeared in Daniel’s chambers, they found that Sha’re and Sarah were nowhere to be seen and staff blasts could be heard in the hallway.

Daniel, this is Sam. It looks like an advance team has already gotten inside the castle. We are going to help here, you get your ass hidden.”, Sam ordered using the radio. All she heard in response was static.

Selmak and Le’at had already pulled out their zats when two Jaffa belonging to Apophis stormed into the room. Before the Jaffa could register that there were people here, they were down. Teal’c activated his helmet and took the lead as they exited the room. Several rapid blasts from Teal’c’s gauntlet blaster and two more Jaffa lay on the ground. With Teal’c on point and Selmak and Le’at bringing up the rear, Sam and Jack picked up staff weapons from the downed Jaffa. Selmak and Le’at put away their zats and also grabbed staff weapons. Working their way over dead bodies, the group of five headed towards the spot where they had arrived yesterday.

His hands flying across the control panel in a blur, Daniel adjusted his course to intercept the An’Kesh. He didn’t know for sure, but he had a good idea that this little ship would pack quite a punch. Bringing the weapon systems on-line, Daniel accidentally hit a button he didn’t mean to. All of a sudden a helmet descended from the apex of the pyramid and covered his head. Seeing through the optics of the helmet, Daniel sighted several death gliders making their way towards him. Barely registering that he needed to destroy those gliders, twin blasts raced from his ship and decimated the two gliders. Thinking more speed, Daniel felt the small craft surge forward. With a cry of exhilaration, Daniel began sighting in on the An’Kesh and let the weapons fire. To his astonishment, the energy blasts from his little ship seemed to completely ignore the shields surrounding the An’Kesh.

When the ship’s sensors informed him that another ship had entered orbit, it only took a split second for him to recognize it as the Prometheus using the mind link he had with his ship. Continuing to zoom around the An’Kesh, Daniel continued to fire his weapons. When the thought that he needed to do more damage, several missile pods extended from the side of the pyramid and let go a salvo of white blurs. In several blinding flashes, the An’Kesh exploded. Just as Daniel was changing course to return to the castle, as searing pain ran through his chest. In that instant, Daniel knew that Sha’re and Sarah had both just been killed. As his own eyes started to close, the little pyramid ship started falling towards the planet.

As the Prometheus came out of hyper-drive in the orbit of the planet SG-1 was on, the bridge was lit up with explosions. Staring out into space they saw what looked like a little, black pyramid attacking a much larger An’Kesh class Goa’uld ship. Before they even had a chance to arm their weapons, the crew standing on the bridge watched in amazement as white streaks acting like missiles flew towards the An’Kesh and the An’Kesh blew up. Once the flash of light cleared, everyone saw that the little ship was hurtling towards the planets surface.

Yelling over the ship intercom, the Captain of the Prometheus was telling the transport officer to get a lock onto the ship or the pilot and beam it aboard. With frantic replies the transport officer had informed the Captain that he could not get a lock on, something about the little craft prevented it. Helplessly, everyone watched as the ship disappeared into the planets atmosphere.
