Chapter Nineteen

Just as the team of SG-1 and Tok’ra reached the landing pad where they had arrived on an Al’Kesh just yesterday, they saw both Sha’re and Sarah shot in the chest by staff blasts. At that close range, they new they were dead instantly. Quickly taking aim, Teal’c and the rest opened fire on the Jaffa that had shot Sha’re and Sarah. Looking around to see if there were any more enemies, the team saw a giant explosion above the planet and knew that that An’Kesh had been destroyed. Standing up from where they had taken cover, Sam led the way over to where Sha’re and Sarah lay lifeless.

Approaching the bodies, the team could see that the entire chest cavity had been blasted. Kneeling down, Sam checked both Sha’re and Sarah for a pulse as was rewarded to find a very weak one. Quickly, Selmak and Le’at took out their healing devices and started using them on the wounds. “Sam, we can not heal this serious of an injury with these devices. The most we can do is keep them from dieing, but even that is for only a limited amount of time.”, Jacob Carter said.

I know dad, but we have to keep them living, otherwise Daniel will die too. There has to be at least one sarcophagus in this castle we can get them into.”, Sam said in a voice on the edge of crying.

If the were like most Goa’uld before they changed, it would be in their chambers.”, Teal’c pointed out.

Okay, T, you carry Sha’re and I will carry Sarah. Selmak and Le’at, you just keep those things healing them or whatever. Let’s move!”, Jack ordered.

Hoisting the women into their arms, Jack and Teal’c followed Sam into the castle while Selmak and Le’at continued to use the healing devices. After several minutes they came across of loyal Jaffa that guided them to the appropriate chambers. Running into the first chamber, Sam activated the sarcophagus so that it would open. By the time Teal’c reached her, he simply laid Sha’re down and pushed the button for the thing to close and begin healing her. While Teal’c was putting Sha’re in the healing chamber, Sam ran to the room next door and started the chamber in that room opening. Moving in the room as fast as possible, Jack made it to the chamber just as it finished opening up. Placing Sarah in the chamber he hit the button for it to close and do the job it was created for.

As they all met back in the hall, they noticed that the loyal Jaffa had not moved from where they took up guard positions. Against the wall across from the door, Sam spotted the now dead bodies of Netti and Kara. Walking over to the two young women, she closed their eyes and sent up a silent prayer for them. Turning around with tears in her eyes, Sam walked over to Jack and put her head on his shoulder to cry. “I hope that we made it in time Jack, I will not be able to stand it if we lose Daniel again.”, Sam whimpered.

I believe that we made it in time Sam.”, Jacob Carter responded watching his daughter cry on Jack’s shoulder.

Colonel O’Neill, this is Colonel Pendergast, come in.” came a voice over the radio.

Hey Lin, this is Jack. Nice shooting up there. We could see that An’Kesh blow from down here.”, Jack said over the radio.

That was not us sir, some little black pyramid-like ship did that, then it took a nose dive straight back towards the planet. We could not get a teleport lock on it or the pilot.”, Colonel Pendergast responded.

Hearing what had been said, Sam sunk to her knees and started crying even harder. Sinking with her, Jack had to fight to keep his emotions in check. Teal’c could be seen flexing his jaw and fists as if he wanted to beat something. Jacob and Le’at just stood where they were, their eyes staring at the floor.

Keying the radio, Jack spoke into it, “Lin can you detect where the ship crashed? Dr. Jackson was the one piloting it.

A few seconds went by before a reply came back. “Jack, we detect it near a large temple half-way on the other side of the planet from yall.”, Colonel Pendergast solemnly responded.

Pulling Sam to her feet, Jack and the others moved in closer together. “Lin, can you send us to him?”, Jack asked over the radio.

Jack, we can not get a lock on yall. There is something causing interference. Can yall move out into the open air where we can try again?”, Colonel Pendergast replied.

Give us a moment, we will go out to the landing pad.”, Jack responded.

As quickly as they could move, the team made there way back down the hallway to the landing pad. As soon as they were out of the building’s cover, Jack keyed his radio again. “Try it now Lin.”, Jack called.

After several seconds nothing happened. “Jack, I am sorry, but something is keeping us from detecting yall. What the, we just lost detection of the crash site. What is ……”, static filled the air.

What about the Al’Kesh?”, Le’at offered.

It appears to be heavily damaged, it will take time to repair before it will fly.”, Teal’c observed.

Her head popping up, Sam nearly shouted, “The gliders, the Al’Kesh should have gliders on board!

Just as the words had left her mouth, Sam started running up the ramp into the Al’Kesh. The rest of the team was hot on her heals. When the team arrived in the Al’Kesh’s hanger bay, they found that they were in luck. Sam quickly through down her staff weapon and jumped into the nearest open cockpit. Jack dropped his staff and ran to the open cockpit of another. Teal’c turned around and climbed into the cockpit of the glider that was next to him. Selmak ran a little ahead of the glider Teal’c was in and climbed into another with Le’at sliding into the second seat. As if it had been rehearsed, all four death-gliders launched simultaneously. As soon as they had a bearing using the glider’s sensors, they turned on the afterburners.
