Chapter Six

Selmak positioned himself at the head of Daniel’s bed while Anise stood at the foot. With the nod of his head signaling for the healing devices to be used, Anise and he both closed their eyes and concentrated on sending the healing energies into the body on the bed. As the energy poured from the handheld devices, Jacob and Anise slowly walked around the bed, never stopping the flow of life-giving energy. After 30 minutes of this, Selmak shook his head and they both stopped.

“It is too much for us” Selmak complained, “his body is just absorbing the energy that Anise and I have sent into Daniel with the healing devices, but it is not enough to bring him out of his depleted state.”

“Sorry Sammy, Selmak is right. I do not know how even the machines are sustaining him he is so void of life energy.” Jacob commented with sorrow.

“We could bring a stasis pod here and place Dr. Jackson in it. This would at least prevent any kind of infections or any further issues from developing.” Anise offered.

Everyone in Daniel’s private room just stood looking at each other with their own thoughts on their faces and minds, the constant sound of the heart monitor and other medical devices making the only sounds to be heard. Tears prickled the eyes of SG1, and silently slid down Anise’s cheeks.

It was Jack that broke the silence, “I will not even think about this until after we have looked into that box that Danny wants us to see. With all that he has been through, his la….last wishes are probably in there. I suggest that we get it open and find out what is in it.”

“I agree with O’Neill.”, Teal’c stated with forced control, “DanielJackson would not have had the box retrieved if he did not have this in mind.”

“I would suggest that we all meet back in the conference room in four hours to afford everyone a bit of rest to recover a little bit from the current emotional stress.” Freya suggested.

With nods all around, everyone exited the room with last looks at their comatose friend. Nobody had any idea of what Daniel may have left for them to see in the safe back on the table in the conference room. The troop slowly made their way to each of their base quarters with Selmak and Anise going to their assigned VIP rooms. Not a single one of them spoke as they made their way to their destinations. All except the unseen hovering in the corner.

“It appears that we took too much from him when the power was removed from Daniel.” One of the guardians spoke to the other.

“No, his personal life-energy was more depleted by recent events than we could have known. It would seem that it was only the power of the chosen that still sustained his body.” The second guardian replied.

“Yes, but what can be done. Surely we are not going to allow him to pass away because of his choice to protect those he cares for?” the first guardian asked.

“All that can be done has been. It is now up to another to provide that which Daniel needs. His mentors have been informed and they are counseling him now.” The second stated.

“But what if the one you speak of does not wish to do what needs to be done?” the younger asked the older. “He turned his back on him before.”

“Then it is out of everyone’s hands and Daniel Jackson will be no more.” The older replied sadly.
