Sacrifice & Reward Chapter Ten Rising from her seat, Anise stepped over to the Tok’ra safe and pushed the single glyph that represented Earth. Everyone held their breath as they waited to hear the sound of the contents being destroyed, but were instead rewarded with the sight of the lid popping open. Everyone in the room released a collective breath and it was replaced with a high amount of curiosity. Taking her seat again, Anise gestured for Sam to have the honor of proceeding. Major Carter nodded to Anise in acknowledgement as she pulled the safe over to her and started pulling out many objects. Reading the identification tags attached to each one, Sam handed them over to their rightful owner. In all, there were Asgard designed holo-cubes for each member of SG1, minus Daniel, as well as General Hammond, Jacob/Selmak, Freya/Anise, Thor, and Nicholas Jackson. Not knowing what to do with Thor’s cube, Sam just set it back on the table. A last device was pulled out of the safe that did not look like anything the others had seen. The device was silver in color with an Opal colored stone in the center. The note attached to the device simply read, “Push the button!” All of the Tauri and Teal’c stared at the device and looked at the Tok’ra to see if they had identified what it was, but the Tok’ra only shrugged. Holding her breath and trusting Daniel, Samantha pushed the button and jumped back as a bright light shot from the stone up through the ceiling as the device dropped onto the table. “What the hell was that!” Jack demanded. No more than had Jack finished his exclamation, than a holographic image of Thor appeared in the room. “Thor, good buddy, what brings you here?” Jack asked the little grey alien. “Greetings O’Neill. I was in this sector on patrol when I was alerted to Daniel being in dire trouble by his emergency beacon. Where is Daniel Jackson?” Thor asked as he spotted the beacon device on the table. “I am afraid that Dr. Jackson, Daniel, is on life support in the infirmary at the moment.” General Hammond replied. “We just opened his personal safe to execute his will when we came across the device you say alerted you.” “Ah, I understand your confusion on this beacon. Not too long ago, Daniel Jackson had asked me if there was anyway the Asgard would be able to help should he die again, to be more specific, to be alerted in the event that he should be killed again and for us to recover his remains.” Thor explained. “That is why we gave him the beacon device, to prevent the Gould from resurrecting his body and implanting it with a symbiote.” “That space monkey. He is full of surprises lately.” Jack stated. Sliding the cube in Thor’s direction, Sam cleared her through. “Um, Daniel left this for you, Thor.” Sam stated to the hologram. With a flash of light, the image of Thor was replaced with the actual being. Taking the cube in his hands, Thor read the identification tag that was attached. To everyone’s surprise, the little beings eyes got even more round. “This is not just for me, this is also addressed to the High Council of Asgard.” Thor stated with surprise. “It is an ancient incantation to summon the Council for a hearing.” “Can he do that?” Anise asked. “Can he ask for their presence?” “This note is very specific in the request and it is done in such a manner that it can not be refused, even by the High Council.” Thor explained. With deftly moving fingers, Thor activated several buttons on his command chair. “The request has been sent.” Thor stated. Within seconds, a holographic image of the Asgard High Council appeared at the end of the room near Thor. “Supreme Commander Thor, why have you summoned our presence on such short notice?” Oden commanded. “Daniel Jackson left a Hearing incantation in the old language for your presence and mine.” Thor responded. “Then where is Daniel Jackson that we may inquire of him his reason for summoning us in this manner?” an Asgard at the left hand of Oden asked. “He is currently on life support here on the Tauri homeworld. His message is contained within this holo-cube.” Thor stated as he activated the cube. A three foot high image of Daniel appeared above the cube in a kneeling position, facing the High Council. The image was clad in white, scribe robes of Norse origin. “Greetings Father Oden and the other members of the High Council. I have had the Rite of Hearing executed because there is a great loss that affects all that fight against evil at hand. The great loss I speak of is knowledge. Knowledge that has been instrumental in the war against the Gould, the replicators, and all those that would control and destroy the lives of others. The knowledge I speak of is the knowledge within my mind.” Daniel spoke with a respectful voice. “As I am talking to you through the use of a holographic projection, the situation pertaining to the knowledge contained within my mind is not good. More than likely, my body is either on life support, or already terminated. In either case, time is limited if the information with my mind is to be retrieved.” “I stand before you to petition the Asgard to use their technology to download my knowledge into an AI database and provide access to this knowledge to both the Tauri and the Tok’ra. In exchange, I offer the use of the downloaded knowledge for an Asgard host body to be utilized by the Asgard as they see fit.” Daniel said bowing. The room sat in stunned silence at what the image of Daniel had just proposed. It was several long seconds before Oden himself replied. “Although the nature of the request is highly unusual, Daniel Jackson’s noble request is correct. The reservoir of information within his mind can not be permitted to be lost for eternity. We accept his proposal and will extend it by creating two human clones complete with his knowledge for both the Tauri and the Tok’ra, in addition to the computer AI.” Oden stated solemnly. “No!” Jack yelled. “We will take the computer thingy, but there will be no human clone of Daniel made.” “The Tok’ra agree with Colonel O’Neill.” Anise spoke. “The computer AI will suffice.” “Anise, it is not within your position to make that decision.” Selmak barked in her authoritative voice. “The council will be advised of the offer and they will make the decision to accept the cloned body or not.” “No!” Anise and Freya both said alternating. “Daniel will not be treated in such a fashion. His nobility will not be soiled by making a mockery of his being. All we, the Tok’ra, really have any right to ask for is the knowledge…not the physical being!” “Yeah Freya and Anise!” Jack yelled into the sudden silence. ~ “I agree with them, Selmak.” Jacob told his life companion. “Daniel has done too much good for everyone to be remembered and treated so callously.” ~ ~ “You are right my beloved, but it was not Anise or Freya’s place to decide on this.” Selmak stated. ~ ~ “Maybe not, but she was doing what was right. Something it seems has changed Colonel O’Neill’s attitude about her a little. Isn’t that worth it.” Jacob thought to Selmak. ~ “You are right my love, on both counts.” Selmak said smiling to her host. ~ “The Tok’ra council will stand behind what Freya and Anise have already stated.” Selmak proclaimed. “The Tauri will also stand behind Colonel O’Neill. This is just not our way.” General Hammond stated. “The Asgard withdraw the offer for the human clones.” Oden decreed. “We can see that the emotional impact of doing otherwise would not serve a positive outcome.” “Thank you.” Anise and Sam said at the same time. “Thor can begin the process of downloading Daniel Jackson’s mind into our computers. We have dispatched our lead scientist to help integrate the AI system into each of your technologies.” Oden stated to all. After the declaration of the Oden, everyone’s attention was once again drawn to the holographic image of Daniel. “I thank the Asgard High Council for their help in this matter and pray that my knowledge will continue to be a benefit to all.” Daniel’s image then turned to face Thor. “Thor, you have been a good friend to the Tauri, and to my self. There is nothing I can offer in repayment save for my own friendship. I do have one last request to make of you. Please contact the Nox and ask permission of them that my body may be interred on their home world once all else has been concluded.” With that, Daniel’s image faded from view. “Daniel Jackson has been noble and honorable in all that he has done. I will honor his request and contact the Nox once his essence has been downloaded.” the little alien said with a bow of his head. “I will return when you are all present by Daniel Jackson’s bed side to perform the download.” In a flash of light, the holo-cube, Asgard High Council, and Thor vanished from sight. “I believe the rest of us should retire to our rooms to view our messages from DanielJackson.” Teal’c stated. “I believe the cubes we each possess are of a personal nature.” “I agree, Teal’c.” George Hammond said as he stood. “Everyone meet in the infirmary in two hours to witness the transfer.” Everyone rose as General Hammond took his holo-cube and entered his office, closing the door and blinds behind him. “I will show you to one of the VIP rooms Dr. Jackson.” Sam said looking at Nick as he staring at the holo-cube on the table in front of him. “Thank you Major Carter, that would be most appreciated.” Nick replied. “How do you think he knew I would get this cube?” “Knowing DanielJackson, he knew we would find you and place it into your care.” Teal’c stated matter-of-factly. There were only nods of agreement as everyone filed out of the conference room and headed to their own rooms. Each person was so lost in thought that none of them noticed the solemn looks on the faces of the base personnel they passed along the way.
