Sacrifice & Reward Chapter Eleven O’Neill’s Room Jack walked into his room and closed the door behind him. Setting the holo-cube on the nightstand near his bed, he sat down and stared at it for several long minutes. “Well Dannyboy, you really did it this time. Don’t get me wrong, all of that information in your head I am sure will be useful…but not as useful as you being with us. Why did you have to give up the one thing that would ensure your continuing survival? You will never know how important you were to all of us, to me; not because of what you knew, but because of who you are/were. Damn it Daniel, why did you have to do this!” Jack O’Neill protested. As if activated by his voice, the holo-cube on the nightstand activated, Daniel was sitting on the edge of the bed wearing his civilian clothes and holding a tablet or something in his hands. “Good to see you too, Jack.” Daniel said with a smile. “I know that if you are speaking to the air, and this image of me, then I am not able to be there for you to talk to in person.” “You think!” Jack quipped. “There are a few things I want to say to you, which we just never seemed to have the time, or right time, for when I was physically able. First, I have changed a lot since we first met so many years ago. I can not say I like all of the things I have done, but thanks to your support…I can die at peace with them and myself. Second, you have been more than a friend to me, more than a best friend; you have been the older brother I never had.” “You were there for me about Sha’re, you were there for me about Sarah, and you understood how I felt about the things we had to do so save lives. I know that I drove you nuts with my “rocks”, running off to look at this or that, jumping out to stop unnecessary killing, and running head-long into trouble at almost every turn, but you were always there for me when I needed to be rescued in one form or another.” “Danny.” Jack whispered while shaking his head in disbelief and turmoil. “Lastly, I know how you and Sam have felt about one another. I have kept it to myself for a very long time. I believe that you should both pursue a relationship with one another. Before you say that it could never happen, I think I can rule out the regulation issue. I have found a way to have the “No Frat” rule bent to make it possible, for everyone in the SGC. General Hammond should be getting the information on how to accomplish this as you sit here listening to me. This is my last gift to you.” With that, Daniel’s image faded away and the holo-cube turned from crystalline to Air Force Blue. Appearing in silver, the Ancient runes for “Friend” and “Brother” appeared across all of the cube’s facets.
