Sacrifice & Reward Chapter Thirteen General Hammond’s Office General Hammond entered his office, closing the doors and blinds as we went. Taking great care, George set the holo-cube in the seat across from his desk and activated it before he scooted around the desk to his own chair. He let out a startled gasp as the image of Dr. Jackson materialized as if he was sitting in the chair as he had done so many times in the past. The image was of Daniel wearing is off-world military outfit, holding his boney hat in his hands. Daniel sat for a few moments before he began to talk. “Sir, I just wanted to take this time to say thank you. Thank you for all the times that you believed in my ideas when you really had no proof to do so. Thank you for backing me up against those that could have ended your career. And most of all, thank you for being a second father to me over the years.” “I know that I tried your patience with the way I often went about doing things. Caused you countless sleepless nights when I would go missing. Caused you heartache when I would get myself “killed” and/or injured. I never intended to do all of that, it just sort of happened that way. Thank you for everything. Before I go, as a last act of being a linguistic diplomat, take a look at the file named, No-Frat-Gone.doc, in the reports directory.” As the last of the words faded from hearing, the cube changed to a deep Mahogany. Blazoned across every facet of the cube with the Ancient symbols for “Father”, “Trust” and “Respect”. “Thank you Dr. Jackson.” George replied. “You have been an inspiration to all of us here at the SGC. I always thought of you as a son.” George Hammond closed his eyes and silently wept for the loss of someone so good. Turning to his computer, he turned on his computer screen and opened the document mentioned by Daniel’s image. After reading what had been written, Hammond could not help the laughter that erupted from deep within him. “Well, I believe that you have done it once again son!” General George Hammond spoke to the air.
