Chapter Seventeen

~ “I am afraid Anise.” Freya told her life partner. “I fear that Daniel may have to say to us when we listen to his message. So many times we did things that he did not like or approve of.” ~

~ “You must look at it as a positive sign that he included holo-cube for us.” Anise consoled. “Daniel is not the kind to leave behind angry or hurtful words.” ~

~ “I know that he would not, but still, what if the message he leaves is one saying that he did not have interest in us. What if he did not feel for us the way we feel for him?” Freya lamented. ~

~ “You fear what is not to be feared young one.” Anise soothed. “If he only deigned to being a friend, that is at least something that we can hold onto.”

~ “You are right, it is just so difficult to feel this way and not have the same returned.” Freya sighed. ~

~ “This is true, but we will always have one another. That love you will always know.” Anise stated with care in her voice. ~

Reaching over, Freya activated the cube and jumped off the bed when the image appeared.

Laying on the bed in what passed as casual clothing for the Tok’ra, Daniel smiled up at Freya and Anise. What had them both spooked was that his eyes were glowing.

“Hello Freya, and Hello Anise.” Daniel’s image began. “I hope I have not startled you, but I thought this would help relay the truth of what I am going to tell you both.”

“As there is probably no doubt that Jacob and Selmak are, at this same moment, listening to the message I have left for them, I will explain why I appear the way I do. I had decided recently to become blended as ask for the position of liaison between our peoples. The decision was not reached out of haste, but out of something I feel is necessary and right.”

“What?” Freya and Anise each took turn exclaiming.

“When we first met, things did not go too well at all. As time passed, I began to see past the protective exterior that you both present to the world. I cannot say exactly when it happened, but I grew to care for the both of you. Even more, I learned to see past my dislike of the Gould and to see the Tok’ra as a different species from them…and more to the point I began to see you both differently.”

“We all three spent a great deal of time together on different projects, and I learned a lot about the two of you…at least as much as you both would allow.” Daniel smiled. “But, being as I have made a career of reading between the lines, I read between your lines and translated the women that are beneath the surface.”

“You are both beautiful, caring, and alluring. Once I was able to get past the scientific exterior that you wrap yourself in, Anise, I found a woman that yearned to be loved. Even if I had not seen pass the façade you present…I enjoyed the company of your mind.”

“Anyhow, I guess I have beat around the bush enough…no pun intended…and should get to the point. I have fallen in love with the both of you. Although I must come clean and let you both know that I love another as well, Samantha Carter.”

“I know that there could not be anything between myself and Sam because she loves Jack, and I would never interfere in that. I am not using either of you two as replacements for her, before you begin thinking that. I would not do that to anyone.”

“I wish with my heart that things were different and that I would have been able to tell you both how I feel in person. But, I at least wanted y’all to know and have something to remember me by.” Daniel said as he faded from view.

The holo-cube changed from crystalline to Cerulean-Blue. Emblazoned on each face appeared the image of a single rose. Appearing in each face in gold lettering were the Ancient symbols for “Love” and “Partner”.

“Daniel.” Freya cried in a whisper. “I, we, love you too.”

~ “Daniel as a Tok’ra, would that have been it would have been inspiring.” Anise stated. ~

~ “It would have been wonderful, to be able to share all of our life with him.” Freya beamed in her mind. ~

~ “Yes, it would have been. To have been forever with someone that was as compassionate and brilliant would have been more than a dream.” Anise returned. ~
