Sacrifice & Reward Chapter Eighteen When the appointed time came, Jack stopped by Nicholas’ room to pick him up to take him to the infirmary to witness Daniel’s mind being downloaded by the Asgard. Knocking on the door, “Dr. Jackson, it is Colonel O’Neill. It is time to go to the infirmary now.” Jack spoke to the closed door. “Yes, yes, I am ready Colonel.” Nick replied as he opened the door and stepped out carrying the crystal skull in his hands. “You never go anywhere without that thing, do you?” Jack said as he nodded towards the skull. “I brought it because it allows me to contact my friends should the need arise.” Nicholas responded. “Ah.” was Jack’s only response as he and Nick walked towards the elevator. As the pair reached the elevator, they found that Jacob/Selmak and Freya/Anise were already waiting for the next car. Exchanging nods in acknowledgement, everyone waited for the next lift in silence. After a very quite ride to the infirmary level, everyone filed out and made there way down the corridor as if they were going to a funeral. Even the personnel in the hallway moved against the wall and turned their eyes downward in reverence. It seemed that everyone knew what was happening and nobody had any words to express how they felt. Upon entering the infirmary, it was no surprise that the displays in the hall were repeated in here. All of the nurses on duty stopped what they were doing and also cast they eyes downward. It did not fail to register on Nick just how respected and cared for his grandson was. Passing through the main area of the infirmary, the party walked into Daniel’s private room. With a gasp, Nicholas Jackson took in all of the machinery hooked up to Daniel to keep him among the living. Already waiting in the room were General Hammond, Teal’c, and Samantha Carter standing near the head of the bed. Just as everyone finished entering the room, a bright light filled the room. When the light cleared, Thor was standing on the other side of Daniel’s bed near his head. With a brief nod to the occupants in the room, Thor attached an Asgard device to Daniel’s temple and pushed a little red light on it. The light started flashing orange as everyone watched the process of transferring all of the knowledge in Daniel’s mind to the Asgard ship in orbit. After several minutes, Sam and Jack both kept looking from the device to Thor as if something was wrong. It was when Thor’s eyes grew larger in diameter that General Hammond and the others became worried. “Thor, what is going on? Shouldn’t the transfer have completed already?” Sam asked. “I am not sure Major Carter.” Thor responded as he looked at a device in his hands. “It would seem that there is more information in Dr. Jackson’s mind than we anticipated.” Quickly tapping out something on the device in his hands, Thor let out a little gasp of surprise. “It would seem that there is more than just the knowledge of ancient cultures contained within the mind of Dr. Jackson. I believe we are also getting the knowledge he has had locked in his subconscious from when he ascended.” “You what!” Jack exclaimed. “You mean to tell me that you are getting even the stuff that Dannyboy could not recall?” “Exactly, O’Neill.” Thor responded. “It would seem that the previous safeguards in place to prevent the information no longer exist. From what the information transfer system is showing me, there is even more information than we obtained from your time as a container for the Ancient repository.” “Wow, we all knew that Daniel had his head stuffed…but…” Jack quipped. “Hold on,” Thor exclaimed as he tapped on his handheld device, “the information is being deleted as fast as it is coming in.” Just as Thor said that, the blinking orange light on the memory transfer device turned solid green. “The transfer is complete.” Thor stated as he typed quickly. “Almost all of the information regarding the Ancients has been deleted. It will take some time to go through what else there is.” “What do you mean that it was deleted?” Sam asked. “Was there an error in the transfer or did someone else remove it?” “There was no error in transfer.” Major Carter. “The information was downloaded into my ship’s computer. There is no sign of anyone other than myself accessing the computer during the time all of this was going on.” “It would appear that someone else removed the information from the database.” Thor continued. “Without doing more extensive diagnostics, I am unable to say whom that is.” “Don’t bother.” Jack said with a knowing smirk. “You can bet it was the Oma crowd that wiped it all out. They did not want us to have it.” “You are probably right, O’Neill.” Teal’c confirmed. “They most likely did not want us to use the information or have the information fall into the wrong hands. That kind of information would have been dangerous to and for anyone.” “I will take my leave of you all now.” Thor said bowing. “I will contact you all again when the scientist that has been sent arrives and we have prepared the information.” With that, Thor removed the device from Daniel’s temple and disappeared in a bright beam of light. No sooner had the light dissipated and everyone had cleared the spots from their eyes, than Dr. Jackson’s heart monitor flat-lined. “It is done. Daniel lasted long enough to pass on the information he felt he must.” the Eldest of the guardian entities spoke to the others. “What about the one that was sent to help him?” the youngest guardian inquired. “He has not chosen to act. Nothing more can be done.” The eldest replied. End Chapter Eighteen of This story along with all original characters and situations were created
