Sacrifice & Reward Chapter Twenty-One Everyone waited around for a few moments as they watched a cluster of nurses descend on Daniel and begin disconnecting him from the paraphernalia of life-saving equipment. They waited with baited breath as the ventilator was turned off, and collective exhaled when his heartbeat monitor continued on a strong and steady beat. Deciding that they were all feeling suddenly exhausted to the bone, they all headed to their rooms, except for General Hammond whom went to his office. As they trudged down the hallway, everyone could tell that the atmosphere in the complex had changed, people were smiling and the air itself seemed to have lightened and become energized. It was with nothing but nods to one another as they each parted company to go get some rest, everyone seeming to have only enough energy to walk…and barely that. The feeling was even more disconcerting to the two Tok’ra, for they could never remember a time when even their symbiotes seemed to be so tired. Upon reaching her room and lying on the bed, Freya spoke to Anise. ~ “Anise, are you alright?” Freya asked her life-companion. ~ ~ “I will be fine young one. It seems that the Nox magic even tapped into me.” Anise replied with a bit of a slur. ~ ~ “Okay then, I think that I will sleep now.” Frey told Anise. ~ ~ “I too think that I will sleep. Talk to you in a few hours.” Anise yawned. ~ Virtually the same conversation was held between Jacob and Selmak, only not in so polite a way. “Leya,” Nafrayu began, “Will Daniel be alright? I know that we were able to channel their energies into him, but what of his state of mind?” “Only time will tell Nafrayu.” Leya responded. “He is tired in spirit and it will take more than transfer of energy to give him the power to overcome that.” “I hope that what he needs is found, I like Daniel.” Nafrayu stated with a smile. “I too like him. He has proven that nobility does exist within the great universe.” Leya smiled down at Nafrayu. Not surprisingly, Sam, Freya, and Anise only slept a scant two hours before they returned to the infirmary. Neither was dismayed to see that they had felt the pull to the same place at the same time. Acknowledging one another, they both stepped to either side of Daniel’s bed and took a hand a piece. Sitting in the chairs that were stationed as if waiting for their occupancy, they all drifted into slumber with their heads touching down lightly on the bed. “Should we be doing this?” the second of the guardians asked the others. “Daniel only requested that we not interfere with his life, he said nothing about that of his friends.” the eldest responded. “Besides, all we have done is bring them here and let them get some needed sleep.” “But you have put them into mental report with him. Is it not interfering to link their minds together?” the youngest guardian accused. “If all the good that has been done this day is to be, then Daniel must relieve himself of the burden that locks him in the darkness. These three will light his way back.” the eldest guardian stated with determination that refused any more questions. “There is still something else that must be done, go and to see to it youngling.” With that order, the youngest of the guardians watching over Daniel Jackson disappeared from site. “We have removed the information that was left behind in Daniel’s mind, why are you sending him to preserve that bit in the grey one’s computers?” the second guardian asked. “When Daniel comes out of his self-induced mental prison, what he has told others he wants to do will need to be able to occur. By preserving that bit of information gathered from the recess of his mind, it will serve that purpose and to help others.” the eldest guardian stated. “Their numbers dwindle already, it is time for them to be replenished for the fight against evil is going to exact a heavy toll as it continues.” “The others know that this is what is being done?” the second guardian said accusingly. “They have ordered it to be done. They are taking a bit of Daniel’s teachings to heart.” the eldest said grinning wide. End Chapter Twenty-One of This story along with all original characters and situations were created
