Time & Time Again Chapter Three Arriving at the mountain, Daniel quickly made his way down the elevator and through the twisting corridors to General Hammond’s office. The door was already open, so Daniel walked in to find General Hammond sitting at his desk reading a report or something. “How are things going General?” Daniel asked. “Things have been better, please close the door and take a seat Dr. Jackson.” General Hammond said looking up from the report he had been reading. After the door was closed, and Daniel seated, General Hammond continued. “About 30 minutes ago we received a coded message from the Tok’ra. The planet that SG-10 went to on a follow-up greet was completely wiped out by the Goa’uld. It appears that they used the same weapons that SG-1 encountered some time back where the planet’s surface was completely covered in poison and radiation. I have the misfortune of having to tell you that Dr. Frasier was with SG-10 when the Goa’uld attacked. The Tok’ra report that there are no life readings from the planet.” Daniel sat for several minutes just staring at the General, the gravity of the situation cascading on his mind and heart and making time itself seem to stand still. Slowly Daniel stood to his feet and walked over to the one-way mirror that overlooks the conference room. “We just split up last night. This morning I had a message from her saying that she wanted to talk when she got back from a mission. I was hoping that we would work things out and get back together.” Daniel said with a hushed voice. “I know that this is hard son, but I need you to look at the pictures we received from the Tok’ra and see if you can identify the Goa’uld that did this.” General Hammond said while walking around his desk carrying the report he had been reading. Looking through the report, Daniel studied the picture of a black pole with a circular emblem on top of it. Within the circle were the Goa’uld symbols to indicate a “punished” world and the symbol of the system lord who was responsible. After staring at the symbol and running it against every “god” he had ever studied, Daniel figured out who it was, “Bellona, a Roman goddess of war, a lesser goddess at that. Not much is recorded in history about her, she was often viewed as the wife, mother, or sister of Mars.” “Have we ever come across anything that has mentioned her or where she is from?” General Hammond asked. “It would take some research into our database, but I do not think we have. We have not come across any of the Roman deities that I am aware of.” Daniel said out of thought. “So, we are dealing with yet another group of Goa’uld? See what you can dig up and meet me back in here in 2 hours.” General Hammond said. “Dr. Jackson, Daniel, I am truly sorry about you and Dr. Frasier.” General Hammond said patting Daniel on the shoulder. “I will see what I can find General. And, thank you.” Daniel said looking at Hammond with tearful eyes. He turned and walked out the door towards his office. With his mind still reeling from yet another loss, Daniel did not notice the look of compassion able understanding on the faces of those he past. Everyone at the SGC were aware that SG-10 and Dr. Frasier were now KIA, and everyone had at one point been in the company of Dr. Frasier as she processed them after one mission or another. Unknown to Daniel, everyone was also aware that Daniel and Janet had been an item for several months. Reaching the safety and comfort of his office, Daniel closed the door behind himself and dropped down in the leather chair behind his desk. He sat there for several minutes, crying with his hands over his face until he started to hiccup. Taking a long, deep breath, Daniel looked at his desk only to have his breath catch in his throat. Sitting there in the middle of his desk was the crystalline rod from the mission when the rest of SG-1 was killed. Out of a flash of anger, Daniel grabbed the rod with the intention of hurling at the door to be shattered in a million pieces. Upon touching the rod this time, he stiffened in mid throw as a vision rooted deep into his mind. There were prison cells lining each side of a long corridor, only these cells were like those on an An’Kesh. Traveling down the corridor, Daniel stopped in front of one of the cells to be shocked with the sight of a very haggard, very dirty O’Neil huddled in a corner and staring out of the cell like a badly beaten slave. Turning around to the cell behind him, Daniel found that Teal’c occupied it in an equal condition to Jack. Continuing down the corridor, he found that the other cells were occupied with the members of SG-10. If they were all here, does that mean Janet and Sam were also alive? Hope began rise in his heart as he approached the final two cells. Looking into the one on his left, Daniel was disappointed to find that it was empty. Turning to the one on his right, he was again crushed to find it just as empty. Where were his best friend and his lover? End Chapter Three Of
