Chapter Six

In Space Aboard a Goa’uld Ship …

With two in the lead and two in the rear, Marine-12 guided the newly freed captives back the way they had come in. Using the same methods as before, they all made their way towards the hatch to take the ladder back down. As they neared the corridor with the hatchway, the sound of several Jaffa could be heard coming their direction. Ducking behind the girders that lined the corridor, everyone held their breath as they watched the Jaffa march past the corridor they were currently in. After the path was clear, all three teams once again made their way to the hatch that would give them access to the ladder to go down.

As the first member of Marine-12 was removing the hatch, the Gunnery Sergeant noticed that they had reached the one-hour limit for their armbands. Almost as if on queue, alarms started sounding all over the ship. Deciding that the ladder would not be a good place to be caught, Jack took the lead and started heading for elevators that he knew were only a few corridors away. Not worrying about stealth any longer, everyone started running after Jack. Just as they neared the intersection of corridors where the elevators where at a staff blast scorched the wall just past Jack’s head. Sliding across the floor, Jack, the Gunnery Sergeant, and another Marine-12 member opened fire on the Jaffa. Ducking behind cover, Sam and Teal’c opened fire on Jaffa that were approaching from the opposite direction down the corridor. Two members of SG-10 where hit in the chest and abdomen by staff blasts and went down, the burns smoking and smelling of seared flesh.

Still firing their weapons, Jack and Gunnery Sergeant scrambled for cover as the Marine that had gone sliding with them took a hit in the leg. Working their way up to Sam and Teal’c’s positions, two other members of Marine-12 joined in on shooting the same group of Jaffa that Sam and Teal’c where firing at. A staff blast caught one of the Marines in the shoulder and he dropped to the ground. Grabbing up his P-90, an Airman with SG-10 ran towards the advancing Jaffa, taking one by surprise before a staff blast caught him in the face.

As the last of the Jaffa guarding the elevators went down, the Gunnery Sergeant turned to open fire on the last Jaffa of the group that had been advancing on them when he saw another group coming up from the rear. Grabbing a grenade from his belt, the Gunnery Sergeant hurled it down the corridor over the heads of everyone else. Before the grenade hit the floor at the feet of the Jaffa, a staff blast caught the last member of SG-10 between the shoulder blades, dropping him to the floor. After the smoke cleared from the grenade, all of the Jaffa were dead, SG-10 was gone, and two members of Marine-12 were injured.

Helping their fellow Marines to their feet, SG-1 gathered the dog tags of the fallen SG-10 and disposed of their bodies. Approaching the elevators, the two teams felt the sudden drop as the An’kesh started its decent towards the planet. Without time for discussion, Jack activated the first elevator and everyone filed in. While Jack held the doors open, Sam pressed the button for the Glider Bay level, and the Gunnery Sergeant stepped out to toss naquada grenades down each of the four corridors leading to the elevators. Letting the doors close, both teams took a moment to breath while the ascended several levels to the glider bays. Taking a quick inventory of ammo, Marine-12 found that they were completely out of rounds for their P-90s, Sam and Jack had depleted the power in their zats, and Teal’c only had a few shots left from the staff weapon he had gotten back in the holding cell area.

Planet Side …

Coming out of the cave, Daniel looked up to see an An’Kesh descending towards the temple. “We have to move, now!” Daniel shouted as he took off running for the Stargate. SG-12 was quick on his heels as they ran head long down the path that ran from the Stargate to the cave entrance. As they neared the Stargate, they came to a sliding halt and dropped into defensive positions. Ahead of them, standing in front of the DHD was Bellona with ten of her “elite” Jaffa. Both groups stared each other down for what seemed like an eternity, both waiting for the other to make the first move. Finally, Daniel stood up and advanced towards Bellona. Instantly, Bellona’s hand came up and sent a ribbon of red energy at Daniel. Calling up all the anger that he possessed, Daniel summoned forth his power and sent a ribbon of white energy towards her.

Each ribbon collided about halfway between them, causing a bright flash of light that momentarily blinded everyone. For several long seconds, neither ribbon moved, and then slowly Bellona’s started advancing toward Daniel.

I shall destroy you Tau’ri. I shall destroy you and enslave all of your kind.” Bellona crowed as her ribbon reached within feet of Daniel. “Your species is weak and pathetic. I have destroyed thousands of your ilk in my lifetime, and I will destroy thousands more.

You shall not!” Daniel shouted. “We have already killed Ra, Apophis, Anubis, and many others of your kind. You are not gods; you are nothing more that parasites. You can not exist with Hosts, but we can exist without your kind.

With his anger now nearly doubled at her words, the white ribbon turned black and speed towards Bellona. Bellona’s face turned red as the exertion of concentration to hold back Daniel’s ribbon took a great toll on her mind. Being stunned by what they saw and heard, he Jaffa stood there watching as their god’s ribbon was overtaken and she was unable to stop its advancement. With her strength at it’s max, and the power of the ribbon device nearly depleted from heavy use, Daniel’s ribbon struck the jewel in the center of Bellona’s palm. A loud screech was heard that split the air as the gem shattered. Daniel’s ribbon fractured into many smaller tendrils and coursed through the bodies of all of the Jaffa, leaving them with holes the size of bowling balls burned through their pouches. Bellona was nowhere to be seen.

With his strength nearly exhausted, Daniel dropped his hand and fell to the ground. Completely exhausted and drained to nearly the point of being unconscious, Daniel lay on the ground panting and trying not to black out. Recovering from the shock of what they just witnessed, SG-12 helped Daniel to his feet and cautiously approached the bodies of the now dead Jaffa. Letting Daniel down on the steps to the gate, SG-12 quickly searched through the bodies for any signs of Bellona. The only thing they found of her was the remains of her ribbon device, now completely blackened and half melted.

In the Atmosphere on the Goa’uld Ship …

Luck was with SG-1 and Marine-12 as they elevator doors slid open; there were no Jaffa in the glider bay.

We have a problem sir,” Sam said looking at Jack, “there are only three of us that have experience with flying gliders and they can only hold two people at a time.

Not entirely true.” the Gunnery Sergeant said scratching his head. “I have logged more than a hundred hours in the simulator.

Well, I guess we get to see if the simulator worked!” Jack said as he climbed into a glider.

Each member of SG-1 climbed into the pilot’s seat of a glider as a Marine climbed into the passenger’s seat.

Sir,” Sam called out to Jack.

Don’t tell me, we have a problem.” Jack growled. “What is the problem now Carter?

Well, as soon as we launch, it is a safe bet that the Jaffa will come after us in the other gliders. We have to find a way to disable the other gliders.” Sam called out.

I have a solution for that.” the Gunnery Sergeant called out.

Standing in the seat of his glider and taking out the last of the decoy devices, he activated it and tossed it into an empty glider.

I thought those were only human signature generators.” Sam said.

Originally they were suppose to be, but since they are powered using liquid naquada, we asked that they also be usable as bombs.” the Gunnery Sergeant said grinning. “Kind of a decoy with a built-in booby trap. It is both mercury switch and remote detonated.

Sweet!” Jack yelled out as he pushed the button to close his cockpit and launched.

The rest of the team launched right after he did, with the Gunnery Sergeant launching last. Once they were only a few hundred feet from the An’Kesh, several explosions emanating from the glider bay buffeted them around. Spotting the Stargate on the ground, Jack directed his glider to a clearing just past it and headed in for a landing. Once on the ground, everyone made their way to the Stargate as fast as their legs and the wounded Marines would allow.

Planet Side …

As SG-1 and Marine-12 approached the Stargate, SG-12 spun around with their weapons at the ready. Seeing that it was not an enemy SG-12 lowered their weapons and called out a welcome. When SG-1 and Marine-12 reached the steps of the Stargate, Sam ran over to Daniel’s now unconscious body. Examining his vitals, she found that his pulse was weak but steady.

We need to get Daniel back to the SGC, he is almost dead sir.” she reported to Jack.

Looking at the bodies on the dead Jaffa, Jack looked over to the Major in charge of SG-12.

What happened to Daniel, and to them?” Jack asked nodding towards the bodies.

That is kind of hard to explain, Colonel,” the Major said. “I think that we should get out of here before reinforcements from that An’Kesh get here though.

Alright, Carter, dial us home.” Jack ordered.

Walking over to his unconscious friend, Teal’c picked Daniel up in his arms and walked back over to the DHD. Standing at the DHD, Sam punched the symbols for Earth while the other teams stood around her preventing anybody from seeing the coordinates as well as watching for any Jaffa. Once the event horizon was stable, the teams rushed through the gate for home.

Fuming at over haven been bested by that scrawny Tau’ri, Bellona crept her way through the woods towards the cave entrance to her temple. Finally reaching the opening of the cave, she looked up to see four gliders launch from her An’Kesh, followed by several explosions in the glider bay area. Cursing, she watched as her ship continued to land on the temple. Winding her way through the cave and the temple courtyard, Bellona finally made it to her temple foyer.

Making her way to the only altar in the center of the temple, Bellona twisted the symbol to open the compartment that held the crystalline rod, her scepter.

Finally, I have my Scepter of Power back. With this, I will have my revenge and destroy those Tau’ri.” Bellona screeched.

Just as she was reaching for the scepter, the Roman ghosts revealed themselves to her, distracting her from paying attention as she pulled the scepter from its holder and not seeing the thin wire that was pulled along with it. The ensuing explosion blasted Bellona back into a wall some twenty feet behind her. The shrapnel from the altar broke two of the support columns on one side of the center of the temple. With the support columns crumbling away, the An’Kesh tilted to one side causing more large stones to dislodge throughout the temple.

Within the ship, inside the holding cells, multiple medal balls rolled down the now leaning floors that were once flat. Colliding with walls, seven naquada explosions tore through the inside of the ship and set off a chain reaction within the ship’s power core. The resulting explosion created a crater several miles across and hundreds of feet deep.

Happiness could be seen on the faces of many ghosts as they were released from their tormented existence and faded into nothing.
