Ares’ Cave

A Secret Island in the Greek Isles

Ares wasn’t surprised when his daughter and her mortally wounded husband appeared in his cave, he’d been watching events unfold for the past week or more and he’d seen her come through the Stargate with him. What did surprise him was her request.

“Father, help me!” She cried as stumbled across the throne room of his cave where Ares sat lazing across his oversized chair with his feet propped up on Psyche’s back. “Please, Father, I need you!”

“I see that, daughter.” Ares intoned but didn’t move from his seat. “What will you have me do?”

“Help me!” She cried again. No longer able to bare his weight in her arms she laid Daniel down by the blazing hearth.

Ares sneered at her. “You cast me out of your life and the lives of my Grandchildren for an entire year and now you expect me to help you save his life?” Ares spat on the ground. “Let him die.”

“No!”

“I ask you again, daughter, what do you want me to do?”

“I can’t hold onto him much longer, Father,” she began to cry as she made her way to him on her knees, “please, I can’t lose him.” Ares said nothing as he waited for her to verbalize the request. “Make him Immortal.”

“What will you do for me?” Ares asked. “Such a gift does not come cheap.” He reminded her.

“What do you want of me?” Ares only glared at her. “Father please! Hades will come soon to claim him….”

“And you are too weak to stop him. I can see this.” Ares leaned forward and took her tear stained face in his hands. “You smell what I do, why save him?”

“I love him.” She whispered.

“You’re too much like your Mother.” Ares intoned thoughtfully and breathed in several scents; those of the women on Daniel, of the man on Callestah and the drugs running through her body and something else. He breathed in a deep breath and let it roll around in his lungs. What was that? Victory? “Will you do anything to save his life?” Ares asked.

“Yes.” Calla agreed.

Ares decided on making her sweat for it and playing his wicked game of Cat n Mouse. “Will you give me Colleen?”

“No!”

“Nicholas?”

“I won’t bargain with my children!” That was a true statement. She’d rather all of them be dead than leave them in his care, especially Colleen. She was a half-breed and mud blood but she still had a chance at giving Ares the offspring he wanted, the ones Calla could never give him. In Nicholas he wanted a protégé someone he could teach and to follow in foot steps and Calla wouldn’t have that either. Nicholas had far too kind of a heart to let Ares pollute it.

Ares eased his big frame back into his throne and away from her while he waved his hand in the air. “I see you won’t do anything,” he said in a threatening voice but his mind continued to dance with her, three steps up and two steps back until he found the perfect spot to dip her. “Perhaps Daniel isn’t that important to you after all.” Ares wondered aloud.

“Father, please there must be something else I can give you.” Called cried softly and bent to his feet. “Please help me save him.”

“There is Callestah.” Ares intoned and watched her head rise to look him in the eye. “You know what I want more than anything else. Something that I want more than Nicholas and Colleen combined. I have waited and I’ve been very patient and so now I ask: Will you give it to me in return for his life?”

Daniel was slipping away and she couldn’t let him go. “Yes.”

“Hold on to him Callestah, I’ll be back.” Ares disappeared from his throne.

Calla crawled to her husband’s side. “It’s all right, Daniel, he’ll be back soon and you’ll be all right.” She laid her head on his chest and listened to his ever-ceasing heartbeat, “Oh please forgive me, I can’t spent eternity without you.”

A sudden chill took over the room and through her tears and whirring mind she saw her Uncle standing in the corner. “Don’t you come near him.” Calla screamed at Hades as he loomed in the shadows. “Father’s gone to get the red ambrosia Daniel will be Immortal, he will live!” She cried.

“It’s his time, Callestah. You should not try to stop this.” Hades warned.

“No it isn’t. I promised him forever and he’s going to have it.” Calla told him and covered Daniels’ body with her own as Hades’ neared them.

“Let him go. He’s too damaged for even the ambrosia to save.”

“No he isn’t!” She said defiantly. “His children need him.”

“His children are grown.” Hades returned as he came closer and ungloved his hand.

“I need him!” She admitted. “Don’t do this. Ares is coming.”

A bright flash of yellow light appeared between Calla and Hades. “Don’t try it Uncle.” Ares warned and handed over a full bowl of the jell-o like substance. Ares cold eyes met hers as she tried to take it from his hand but he wouldn’t let go. “We have a deal, don’t we Callestah?” Ares asked.

“Yes.”

“Hades you are our witness.” Ares turned to look at his Uncle and laid out the terms of their Agreement. “She has agreed if I give her the power to make him Immortal she will come to my bed. Have you not, Callestah?”

“Yes,” she tugged at the bowl but still he didn’t release his grip.

Lord Hades the only one not caught up in the sexual heat of the moment had the presence of mind to inquire further with regard to the terms of their agreement. “For how long will she share your bed?”

“Until he wakes.” Ares returned. “After that if she still wants to go back to the Mortal World she can leave with my blessing.”

Life in the Mortal World would never be the same. She had a lot of explaining to do and a good deal of guilt to bear but Calla knew that when he woke, Daniels’ guilt would be stronger. “Make it so he doesn’t remember them.” She said to Ares.

“That will cost you extra.” He warned. “Why would you want that anyway? Let him live with what he’s done.”

“He can’t.” Calla told him. “Not and stay with me.”

“And your sins, Daughter?” Ares asked. “How will you live with them?”

“Please Father do this for me.” Calla begged. “The drugs and Andy we’ll deal with, they’re my crosses to bear…”

“This is his!” Ares roared. “Don’t think him innocent, Callestah. He drank of the wine and he partook of women offered him on his own.”

Moreover, they all looked like Sha’re, she felt like getting sick again. The Connection to him was fading and Hades had begun to come nearer once more. “Nothing means anything if he dies.”

“You will offer no resistance to whatever I demand until he wakes?”

“Yes.”

Ares let go of the bowl. “You heard her.”

“I did.” Hades agreed and stopped in his tracks.

Calla took the bowl and brought it Daniels’ mouth; fingertip by fingertip, she brought the jell-o to his lips and forced it into his mouth. She massaged his throat to get him to swallow it until the bowl was empty.

While the Red Ambrosia worked its magick on Daniel’s body Lord Ares came forth and laid his big mitt over Daniels’ head. The boy was so near death Ares could take anything he wanted from his mind or at least have a good look at it and look he did. Ares gazed upon the memory of Daniels’ last few days and found them to rather enjoyable if most demeaning to his daughter. Ares did his best to wipe them away and bury them as far down as he could so that Daniel would not remember what he’d done and the pain he’d caused his wife. “It is done,” Ares declared. “I have lived up to my end of the bargain. It’s your turn, Callestah.” With shining onyx eyes and wanton desire in his smile, Ares held his big hand out to her. “Come with me, Enya will tend him until he wakes.”

“Shall I witness?” Hades asked.

“If she doesn’t live up to her end you can hold her down.” Ares grew tired of waiting for her to leave Daniel’s side. “Now, Callestah, Daddy’s waiting.” He warned.

“I love you,” Calla whispered to Daniel and brushed her lips over his they were cold and lifeless but the ambrosia was sweet. “Always.” She covered him with the animal skins to keep him warm while she was away paying the piper. David offered no words of advice or encouragement as she stood up to meet her Father. Reaching out to run her fingers through Daniel’s hair, she walked away from her husband and into Ares’ bedroom without looking back.
